KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again
greg775 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's a great great column http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,2585309.column Way to go, Trib! -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Rios may actually be moveable this year. Maybe. I doubt it. Maybe if the Sox pay 4/5s of the contract, but nobody is going to take Rios because they know he could turn to s*** at any moment, judging from his track record.

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 11:21 PM) OK, show me another team who cries about not being able to acquire players because attendance isn't up to snuff. Just one. You mention the Rangers spending money. You may be interested to know according to Forbes, the White Sox had more revenue than the Rangers last season. Attendance is overblown. Its not how many are at the games, its how much was paid to be there. If the Sox really wanted to sell the last 7000 to 10000 seats to last nights game, they would have had no problem doing so. They picked pricing them to where they would not be sold. The fact is its on the White Sox to draw fans. No one has an obligation to go to games. A restaurant doesn't say we will get you better food if you buy this crap first. They shouldn't even be publicly discussing it. They should be spending time trying to figure out how to fix it. Saying you would get better but can't because you're not getting enough business in a way is just showing you agree that your product should be better. Seriously, the franchise could probably be sold for close to $1 billion right now. If they don't feel they have the funds to properly run it, maybe they should sell. The other thing is, we have heard this so many times in the past, then Peavy gets traded for. Rios gets claimed. Manny get claimed. Edwin Jackson is acquired. Enough answering attendance questions KW. The Sox revenue was top 10 last year. That's the number that matters, not the total attendance figure. I just maintain if they lowered some prices, they would get more people into the stands and those extras would more than make up for the loss on the higher priced tickets. Read this post over and over, people. Dick Allen knows his s*** and is CORRECT! QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 03:17 AM) Some fans love their team and show up no matter what, some fans need to be won over. A lot of Sox fans fall into the latter category. There is nothing wrong with that. Badger, you are a rich attorney. There are people WHO CANT AFFORD TO ATTEND GAMES! Don't you agree on that? -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 01:44 AM) Part of that may be those seats are the most uncomfortable thing on the planet. I would want to buy the cheapest seat possible in an area where I can walk and stand. Has anybody been to Dodger Stadium? On TV, lower level it really looked like there was a lot of space the way they do those blocks of seats in partitions.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 03:13 AM) There! Was that so f***ing hard Gavin?? Still a fifth straight series loss for the team, but at least they're going out on a win. That's always better. Losing five straight series after a 9-game win streak is absurd. We had the league where we wanted 'em. All we had to do after a nine -game win streak was right the ship at home and win series. But instead we've let everybody including the Royals stay or get in the race.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 02:53 AM) You could have all the passion in the world, but if your starting pitcher is Zach Stewart, you're probably going to lose that night. Probably, but the Cubs are bastards. You'd think our guys would want blood after what they did to Paulie. They didn't. They were zombie-like. You can't tell me the intensity was the same as the games in Wrigley. Then right on cue, the Cubs drill DeAza. You could tell Alejandro really wanted to charge the mound, but being a smart player and good player, he probably said, 'f*** it, it's not worth getting suspended.'
-
QUOTE (bobryansson @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 03:45 AM) Love that passion. If the Sox knew this was going to happen, they'd have shown some excitement in Games One and Two instead of playing like bored zombies. There's not enough hate in our dugout for the f***ing opponent!
-
Why cant the f***ing Cubs just take their beating??? He hit him on purpose!!! Pricks. This is why the Sox shoulda been fired up for this series!! The Cubs purposely hit another Sox player. It is bulls*** and it's why the f***ing White Sox should have been fired up for this series instead of sleeping the first two games!
-
Yay. We win the Cup. It coulda been a lot worse. We go 1-2 vs. the Cubs and 4-2 overall this season. Now it's time to get our act together and start winning series which is all we needed to do after the 9-game streak, instead of giving most of that back and letting Detroit in the race.
-
Sox seem flat again. This Cub series totally different feel than the one in Wrigley. What a streaky baseball team, zombie-like at home.
-
If we get swept by the Cubs after the other faceplants against NL teams I think my head will explode tonight.

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) It is obvious if you read the quotes that Kenny didn't bring attendance up, but he was asked about it again. I used to say this about ozzie and got fried for it. Ozzie didn't bring up s***, he was asked about stuff and responded. It goes both ways. KW and Ozzie BOTH answered the questions, didn't bring it up on their own. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) Are you going to justify the Rios contract? Terrible contract no matter what he is doing currently. Awful awful contract. He's having a very very good year, but still isn't special. And other years he's been awful most of the time. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) Lower box in the corner is only $105 right now on the Sox website. Gee, I wonder why they don't sell out? There's no doubt there has been some Sox fan apathy, but its a 2 way street. The Sox have been one of the top 4 or 5 priced tickets in MLB for several years and their new system makes buying tickets during the season even more expensive. Its really a remarkable way to try to cure your attendance "problem". QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) i bought two tickets for my dad as a fathers day gift, $51 best price i could find for lower level vs mil. w/the stubhub fee, $118. and they wonder why attendance is low Yet most people on here think cost isn't an issue at all. I'm so glad fans have spoken this season and not shown up. These prices piss me off. 80 games at home or whatever it is?? Baseball is way too expensive to go more than once or twice a year and pray they play Paulie that day. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Yup, couple that with a terribly unlikeable manager and drama centered around him, and the fans are put off. I know why I dumped my season tickets. Man, you dumped your tickets because of a WS winning manager? Amazing. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) The only game I'm planning on going to is July 4th. And that's only because we got "free" tickets when we signed our son up for the Sox/Bulls summer camp. I would love to go to more games, but it's so damn expensive. Then add parking, beer, and some food? Great post, Pitt. For some reason a lot of people on here don't believe cost is a factor in our s*** attendance. It is a HUGE factor. They have kept the average southsider from attending. it COSTS TOO MUCH!! QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) I could not possibly agree with you more Brotha! It's been several years (I think Maggs was in right), but I could not believe what a lousy experience I had the last time I sat in the lower level. I think my company at the time bought the tickets. When I go to a game, I for some unknown reason, want to actually watch a game. We were about 10 - 12 rows from the field along the right field line, slightly behind 1st base. People were constantly getting up and down, in and out of their seats, even during pitches. I don't know why people have such rude baseball, or any public event, behavior. I'm a very mild mannered man, and it takes a lot to get me angry; but boy was I pissed. I bet you I missed half of the game because someone was standing up to get in and out in front of me, usually right when the pitcher was starting his wind up. At that time I swore I would never sit in the lower level again and have not since. Can you give me a section where the seats up there are great? I'll be back this summer ready to go to a few games.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 05:53 AM) Could you imagine how much better the Rays would be if they had Ozzie as manager letting them do whatever the f*** they wanted, instead of Joe Maddon who is always making those little tweaks? I simply love that the Sox got anything at all for that windbag piece of s***. OMG. Your last sentence is very very insulting. Not everybody hates Ozzie, u know.

Nice thread. Jake deserves kudos. Who'd have thought this year Peavy, Rios and Dunn are all good and the team still is .500. Amazing. It's like we're hexed.

QUOTE (Andrew @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 05:07 AM) STFU. Real mature response. I happen to be insanely mad at losing two AT HOME to the Cubs. It's like we want to be .500 against them this year after sweeping them the first time. Zach Stewart was a gimme. Now we can't hit ... against the Cubs?? WTF. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 12:20 AM) Stewart is like, 24 and we have options. Why would we release him? That'd be moronic. Because he can't pitch, for starters. Now that he's in the minors it doesn't matter to me, really, either way. I don't have to read about his failures or see them.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 04:44 AM) Kenny will add before he dumps. This is a guy who has had opportunity to trade off players. The next time you will see a fire sale will involve a new GM and possibly a new ownership. It Will always want to have something to keep some season ticket holders to renew. Exactly! You get a total "rebuild" here and you are looking at 10,000 fans a game. You think 20,000 to 25,000 a night is bad. You just wait til the Sox go total rebuild. Sox just can't shake being team dysfunction. This home record is f***ing ridiculous. Winning nine and immediately going in the tank is incomprehensible, but it is the White Sox over and over again. Trading Konerko, BTW is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. For what??? Three prospects? What prospects do you want and think you can get? -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 03:55 AM) It must really suck to be Jake Peavy. Two straight complete games with 1 ER given up and he loses both. This offense is f***ing horrible. And a few weeks ago our new hitting coach was a HERO on here. It's on the players, folks. They are SUCKING now as they did under Walker. -

Hudson is soooo bad. What a joke. I can't believe nobody else is sick of White Sox baseball ... win nine in a row and then play like total s*** again. Ridiculous baseball team. Can't beat the Cubs at home!! Can't beat f***ing anybody at home. DFA Hudson PLEASE. He's nothing. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 03:12 AM) Ozzie Guillen...he never managed to teach PK the rules... What did Paulie do? I wonder if the White Sox currently are the worst first place team in history at this stage of the season. So flawed yet 4 over .500 (possibly 3 coming up). -

Is there a meltdown on here tonight? We losing to the s***ty Cubs again? Amazing. Who is the goat tonight so far? -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 08:33 PM) My guess is Humber's next start is his last stand. Thank God Zach is gone. It shows how bad our talent evaluators are, letting him start last night's game. I'm very surprised they didn't just release him, but I guess no harm letting him get shelled in AAA games. You are prolly right about Humber. He's been pathetic.
-
QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) I really enjoyed paying $54 a ticket, to sit in the upper deck, and watch Stewart throw 4 homeruns. I hope you are gone soon. Horrible time yesterday at the Cell. I was saying that it was a slap in the face of all ticket holders to basically concede that game before it started. Pitch anybody but Zach Stewart. How can they not just release the guy? Cooper cannot fix everybody. Enough of Stewart already! And Humber despite the perfect game is on the same path. I feel your pain watching that crap for 54 bucks a ticket.
