  1. I don't know what coaching/teaching skills Hamilton has, but I'd like to see him in or around the organization for awhile. Keeping him on the 40 man is a tough call though. Not unlike Yolmer.
  2. "They're going to keep coddling the child to play LF (Eloy). Vaughn by default moves to RF. At least this buys another year to see what develops out of Cespedes with another full season in AA / AAA." While I'd prefer a different scenario altogether, you're probably right about the outfield situation. I have a different take on RF than most do however. i.e. right and left aren't so comparable as to simply classify them as interchangeable 'corner' positions. A classic LF would be a Gordon or even a Brantly, whereas a classic RF is more along the lines of a Betts or Guerrero SR. RF requires a lot more athleticism than left, to the point that a team can hide a good hitting, fair athlete in left where that player would likely be exposed in right. I doubt that running Vaughn in right will belay his development - but it's not optimum placement for either him or the club. IMO anyway.
  3. Sox could use a switch hitting RF that has never played the position and is likely heading into his post-peak years. Might even get him for 3 years of Kimbrel money. I'm not being sarcastic - I've come to the conclusion that S. Marte should be the Sox' primary FA target.
  4. I wonder what happened with him. I can see a minor dropoff due to a sudden culture change but Cesar pretty much dropped off and stayed there. Maybe he just didn't want to be a White Sox.
  5. The lowest end teams are only going to consider giving up their best player for a boatload of talent. Pittsburgh and Reynolds - The Orioles and Mullins. Why should they consider making lateral moves at all? Unless they have a nutzo FO - which some teams do.
  6. A RH slugger with good RBI totals but puts up abysmal OBP. Competent outfielder; and I don't use the term 'competent' lightly. Could do worse, but I'd really like to see going upscale at the position. You're right in thinking that if the Sox go this route that Duvall would likely be their first choice.
  7. He might be tempted by 3 for $40-45.
  8. In Fantasyland - the more I look at it the more I like the S. Marte option. True - he's at the end of his performance window, but should still be an asset for 2-3 years. Getting a higher priced FA , such as Marte, will necessitate unloading K & K's contracts at something like half value which the Sox need to do anyway. Hernandez sub-par play complicates things. Is there any reason to have confidence in his playing up to his $6+ Mil tag in 2022? A K & K move could possibly bring a LaStella type 2nd baseman (and a prospect.) Picking up Cesar's option carries more than a little risk. Romy as a primary 2B as a rook? Hmmmm maybe, sorta kinda... lot of unknown there. Thank heaven for Leury, even though we all know he isn't the answer at the position. Speaking of catchers, (wait, we weren't talking catchers), we need a good fielding 2. Grandal's legs aren't getting any younger. Is there much reason to think that Grandal is going to put a solid 100 games behind the plate again? I have doubts he'll be able to do much more than 80. We need a good ML catcher, not just a backup, and they don't grow on trees. And about another starter.... p.s. I realize that we're not likely to see anything like half contract value in moving Keuchel, but this is Fantasyland.
  9. Add Crochet and Burger (or) Sheets --- they might bite.
  10. I don't doubt that he can play Right, but S. Marte has never played the position. He's been Left-Center-DH his entire career. It still begs the question of what to do with Grandal, who I doubt will catch 100 games next year. The point being that if you're bringing in Castellanos you pretty much have to trade Eloy, unless you're willing to tolerate an outfield of Eloy-Robert-Castellanos. Not exactly a Pitcher's dream of an outfield. IMO, in something resembling reality, bringing in S. Marte would be the option over Castellanos. Eloy's jug-headedness in the field really complicates the Fantasy alignment of Sox player positioning.
  11. Eloy? Grandal? Is Who in right?
  12. You could probably hide him in left with acceptable results, but that would pretty much entail trading Eloy. Considering performance/cost efficiency over 4-5 years and still not addressing the RF problem - not all that appealing an option.
  13. Obviously, you're pushing for Cuban buying Reinsdorf out and moving the franchise to San Antonio. Cuban buying the team with the strongest Cuban connection ------ get it? Nudge Nudge Wink Wink Har Har
  14. You're right. But if a team is going to tank they probably need to go pretty deep with it:. Scouting, training, technology, both MLB and MiLB coaching and FO - everything being on the table and fair game for change and revision. IOW in the Renisdorf era - not gonna happen.
  15. Big Hurt, Ventura, Lance, Raines, Julio friggin' Franco. Black Jack, Fernandez, Alvarez, Bere, Hernandez. Who Are These Guys?! And then the whole thing was flash frozen. It left me wondering why we can't have nice things; and then learned about JR's role in the whole mess. sheesh
  16. "Never rub another man's rhubarb." The Joker
  17. raBBit posted - "Definitely seemed personal. Madrigal is not an "old school" kid for lack of better words. He didn't take to instruction and didn't feel like he needed to change his game. The old school people in the org were always divided on him." Which says a lot. Team chemistry can't be overlooked. For a proven Reggie Jackson to say that he is "The straw that stirs the drink." when he joined the Yankees is one thing - for a rook with questionable aspects of his game to blare that he's Mr. 3000 is something altogether different. Even Pete Rose, while coming in as "Charlie Hustle', wasn't jamming it in his teammates faces as a rook.
  18. There are rumors that Madrigal rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Anyone know more about that?
  19. Considering the injuries and failings in mid-season personnel moves, TLR had to overuse Garcia. There weren't many better options in most instances. IMO Leury is one of the valuable Sox to keep around for '22 and '23.
  20. Yeah you gotta be careful with those habeneros.
  21. Eloy is going to have to do something with his swing to put up those numbers. The injury and time off likely had a lot to do with his September funk but he has some adjustments to make. Jimenez' market value is mixed at this time. Field play (or lack thereof), aversion to DH and some inconsistency at the plate shade the high end potential he obviously has. But yeah, at this time, I can't imagine many scenarios that would lead the Sox to seriously consider moving him.
  22. My hate for the Chop & Chant has nothing to do with Native Americanism. Great for the Florida State Seminoles - sucks for a MLB team. This is baseball not college football. Terrible towels and shaking pom-poms is somehow different.
  23. Algebraically, losing McCullers and Morton is a cancelling action. A primary task for the Braves now is to keep the wet blankets thrown on Altuve, as he is often the catalyst that gets the big innings going. If Fried beats the Stros tonight - the Series gets really interesting. Algebraically that is...
  24. I've had this topic in the back of mind for awhile now but haven't given it much thought and haven't seen a lot of info on the matter on mainstream sites. Anyone have info or links regarding what the issues and contentions will be?
