QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 10:59 AM) I think someone will still take him pretty early. DUI is stupid, but it's like he got caught running a drug ring. Still pretty stupid on his part. Still pretty stupid but it's not really a big deal IMO edit: i'm not saying DWI is not a big deal, I mean that it doesn't necessarily mean anything is seriously wrong with the kid. He's a kid, and kids do stupid things.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 08:45 AM) So has talent out west just dried up, or are players leaving and going elsewhere for some reason (more money, better facilities, schools too focused on football?) I think it's just bad recruiting and bad coaching. There's still been talent out there staying, but teams aren't making the most of it. Washington for example. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Welcome to USF basketball, it's what they do. You could just as easily replace USF with ND and it would be all the same

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 09:47 AM) Way to go from a first round pick to a 6th round pick. If he's there in the 3rd and my team needs a TE i'm still taking him

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Hm. Well, in case I was unclear, I didn't mean to say that UConn and Texas were similar in style of play or anything. I meant in terms of resume. We obviously have to agree to disagree on this one. My feeling is that, they have similar resumes, but UConn simply had an easier late-season schedule to work with being in a conference with a lot more flotsam at the bottom. Also, I would be highly skeptical of ESPN's rankings when discussing any Big East school - just look at the Bracketology posts they put up. But Drexel over Texas? Seriously? They have beaten no ranked team, their SOS is a miserable 212th (of about 300), the only team even in the Top 50 they beat is VCU (who they also lost a game to), and the only major conference team they played (UVA) beat them handily at Drexel. Texas has 1 win against Top 25, 3 against Top 50, and an SOS in the top 20. Drexel may sneak into a play-in game if things fall out just right, but I would put them below Texas AND all four of those Big East schools we were discussing. I guess it's more I would rather Drexel be rewarded for winning their conference regular season and having a great season (27 wins, 19 in a row) and IMO passing the eye test, rather than reward a big conference school for mediocrity.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) Also, someone should dig up the thread from on here a few years ago, with the article and photo of that giant garden spider in Australia eating a bird it caught in its web. In someone's back yard, on their laundry line post. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews...-on-camera.html

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) Per Sagarin, UConn's SOS is 16th nationally (this includes yesterday's game), Texas' is 15th. Going into conference tourney play, they were both 19-12 overall. They each have one win over a T25 team. UConn had an easier conference schedule to plow through, but not by a ton. Very, very similar squads in background. UConn beat WV which likely gets them in, just as Texas likely gets in (full bid, not the play-in round) with a win over ISU tonight. For either one, a first round loss in the conference tourney puts them, IMO, on the bubble, hoping for a play-in 12/13 bid. WV has a 14th SOS per Sagarin, so again right there with the other two. They finish 19-13. They actually have 2 wins over T25 teams though. I call them a bubble team too, right in the middle. UConn is leaning in, Texas leaning out, at the moment. But, UConn won, so they are likely in. Texas, we'll see tonight. B12/B10/A10 tournies matter, so does MWC, maybe a couple other conferences as well, to see what bubble teams need an at-large bid. Drexel already got thrown into the mix. ESPN has UConn's SOS at #3. But I see what you're saying, I just don't agree. I think they are solidly in at this point, and already were going into yesterday. I'm sure they would also have gotten some consideration for the NCAA's debacle of handling Boatright and Calhoun missing so many games. I also don't think they have very similar squads either. I think Drexel has a better chance than Texas at the moment, for example.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 05:12 PM) I am not so sure. Seton Hall and UConn were under .500 in a conference that wasn't as tough as the B10 or B12. WV was at .500. Texas, as an analog, was at .500, but in a conference without the soft bottom that the Big East had. Their SOS is very similar to, or better than, those 4 Big East teams. None of them have a ton of wins against Top 25 or Top 50 teams, 1 or 2 each. I personally think a team like Texas gets the nod over UConn, Seton Hall or WV right now. USF is kind of a weird case because they did so well late in the season, but they beat no one OOC and they only beat 1 ranked team. Or how about Colorado State? More wins against T25 than any of the schools we are discussing, SOS is a little softer but not bad, and they still have games to play. Of course, this all can change quickly, as all these teams (except WV) have games left to play. But I'd wager that not all four of those Big East bubble teams make it. That would be 11 from the Big East, and I'd bet on 9. To note, I also am assuming that there will be some bracket busters this week that cause problems - so there will be fewer spots for these bubble teams to go. If all the tournaments go on with basically no surprises that matter - which basically never happens - then maybe there is a chance those teams all get in. But I doubt it. You do realize UConn has a top 3 SOS along with a top 30 RPI right? I don't think UConn is anywhere near the bubble anymore. And WVU is going to be a 10-11 seed. If Texas gets in they are playing in the play in round. USF is probably in after last night. SHU is the only maybe at this point. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) I've never heard of an 11th team in the discussion. There are ten teams in the discussion. After USF's win last night, I think nine of them are in for sure and Seton Hall is the team that will have to sweat on Sunday. Agreed. SHU depends on what happens in the Big 10/Big 12/A-10 Tourneys

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) So UConn is likely in. WV, I am not so sure. Seton Hall and USF on the bubble. Lots of other conference tourney action left, with a bunch of other bubble teams. If teams like Texas, NW, Colo State can win games in their tournies, I think one or two of those four marginal Big East teams doesn't make it. They are both locks IMO. 7-10 seeds

Big comeback from UConn...Napier really carried them down the stretch. Kalicli fouling out was a huge blow to WVU and they played very curiously down the stretch with Kevin Jones basically disappearing. Either way, i'll take it

QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 06:31 PM) It is the best tournament out there. It's a shame its going to lose some of its luster when Syracuse and Pitt leaves. Yes, but adding Memphis and Temple basically makes up for it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) So... Drexel? At Large bid, or no? I think they get it. They have a stronger case than VCU last year and we saw what they did, There are a lot of mediocre BCS schools again and the NCAA rewarding some of the smaller schools paid off last year. I think there is pressure on them right now to include those kind of schools and Drexel, although they don't have a great resume, probably passes the eye test. I'm gonna say they get in, and they also avoid the first round game as well. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) Every year some team goes crazy in free agency and everyone picks them to win it all. Eagles last year. This year it will be....... Chiefs could make some noise. They already signed Routt and franchised Bowe. Charles/Berry/Moeaki/Siler all are coming back from missing basically all of last year. They have the #11 pick. The are being rumored as a possible destination for Peyton Manning. And they have $65M to spend.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 01:02 AM) Would you cough up $45 for all 5 digitally though? I'm not a big fantasy epic reader, but I liked the series on TV. I loved the TV series so i bought the books. I'm about half way through the first book right now and I love it. Very similar to the TV series but the book makes everything so much easier to follow and is more descriptive. I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the month, then watch season 2 of the series and then read book number 2. I don't regret my purchase at all.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) It's odd. I'm far from a Big East fan but I love their conference tourney. 5 straight days. I think it's hands down the best tourney there is. Granted, I am a UConn fan and a Big East homer, but there is something special about friday/saturday night at the Garden with usually marquee teams playing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) Apparently they didn't have the time to squeeze in a 2-2-1 series because the schedule wasn't planned with this extra team format in mind. It is only supposed to be for this season So save the changes for next season instead of rushing them in. I hate Selig. -
