2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
ChiSox_Sonix replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) Not to generalize or anything, but I would think any Cuban ball player would want to go to Miami. Obviously Miami would want them too. What is your take? He's specifically said he'd rather not -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) Right, the group that's usually the one discriminated against is the one you hear about. Or there is a double standard. But that's impossible to believe in this country.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) Actually my high school didn't have men's volleyball. There were a few of us guys that liked to play and we were pretty good. The volleyball coach said we could join and we almost did. She told us we'd have to wear the same uniforms at the girls though. I think generally there aren't many boys volleyball teams and if boys starting playing on those girls teams there would be outcries. Someone tried it a few years behind me in school and they were basically told not to try

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Why should you start seeing some cuts? You should see cuts if necessary, not for the sake of it. If a kid isn't good enough, cutting them tells them that. Yeah, it sucks, but it's a good lesson and can often benefit them. I've been on all three ends. I was a 10 minute per game guy on my soccer team, one of our leading scorers in basketball but I got cut from 7th grade baseball. It sucked. I cried. But I wasnt't good enough. I didn't play summer ball, I didn't go to camps and people were just better. So I went to track instead and worked at that. Found throwing the discuss to be really fun and by the time I was a senior I was in states. Sticking around baseball only to get 4 or 5 at bats per season would have done nothing for me as far as growing as a person.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:27 PM) Yes. Define: Sexist: discriminatory on the basis of sex (usually said of men's attitude toward women). A better question might be, is it always wrong to not allow men and women to play alongside each other? There we may have a much different discussion. We could split the sports into contact and non contact sports. We could look at sports with mechanical equipment like NASCAR. We could look at ones with fine motor skills like pool versus gross motor skills like shot put. Absolutely not. But 99% of the time it is always about how girls/women are being slighted for not being allowed to participate. You almost never hear it from the other side. It's ok for girls to jump on to the football team, or wrestling squad or baseball team. But the second a guy wants to try out for volleyball, field hockey or softball it's no longer okay.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) By middle school, you absolutely should have winners and loser. By 10 you should have winners and losers. Imagine playing civic soccer or basketball or little league and not keeping score. That's ridiculous.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) Yes, but that wasn't what I was address. It's sexist to use a slang term for female genitalia as a euphemism for being weak, cowardly, etc OMG. The political correctness police is a perfect example of what people were b****ing complaining about on the last page. I don't know about the others but when I made the horrendous reference that is being discussed it wasn't meant to be directly about this particular case, but more about an overall direction our society is heading. People just like to complain and feign offense just for the sake of it. As for this particular case, if there is no female alternative I think it is discriminatory and should not be allowed to take place. However, if there is, there is nothing wrong with the decision that took place. Purposefully or not, the article does not make mention of the situation so based on that article alone we do not know what the exact case is.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) Baseball is the one sport where I think girls and boys should all be able to play it together. Especially at that age. Some of the best players on my little league team were girls and one is one of my best friends (not at the time) She could have played in Jr. High easy if there wasn't a stigma that had her play softball. Only if the boys are allowed to play on the local softball teams as well

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) The fact that things like this are even news just shows how big of p*****s we are anymore. The pussification of america has been in full force for years

Sox wearing 1972 color uniforms this season
ChiSox_Sonix replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I guess i don't really care for the red stripe uniforms since the team's name is the White Sox and there is another team in the league named the Red Sox. Just kind of weird to me. You'd think they'd avoid highlighting that color in any uniform because of that -

Ryan Boatright situation keeps getting more interesting -
Parks & Rec was hysterical last night. Ron Swanson the whole show was great. "When I eat, the food is afraid of me" Big Bang Theory was pretty funny last night as well

Good short read on the NCAA and how the power they have. This specifically is about the Boatright case Guilty Until Proven Innocent Living in Fear of the NCAA -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 12:54 AM) I agree, he looked like a very good leadoff hitter. He reminded me of the lines Rock Raines put up before he couldn't run anymore. Rock would go 2-5 or 3-5 and bash line drives. DeAza was a likeable player on an unlikeable team. This made me snicker. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 01:09 AM) I want De Aza as our 4th OF for defense and pinch running, and to take over for Rios in CF when he goes on his terrible stretches. But I don't trust De Aza in a full time role. I really don't understand why this sentiment has such a strong hold here. It's not as if he's this DeWayne Wise type player who got hot. He's always put up solid minor league numbers, he has the physical tools, he's made opening day rosters in the past and he came through a pretty well respected minor league system. The only reason it's taken him so long to make it to the majors full time is injuries. The leg injury he suffered in Florida was quite bad and detrimental to his development. Concerns over his ability to stay healthy are one thing, but I think he's proven that, when healthy, he is quite capable of being a major league starter.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) He could have played better, but that was a Giants defense that held Aaron Rodgers to a 78.5 QB rating and forced him into 2 turnovers in their postseason matchup (he has 6 turnovers in the regular season, all interceptions). There were a few throws that Smith should have made that he didn't, but I really don't think any of them would have been significant enough to matter a whole hell of a lot in the end. Alex Smith did about what he was supposed to do in that game. Meanwhile, both of Kyle Williams' fumbles led directly to points, and neither fumble could have come at a worse time. Giants also benefited from a quick whistle on Bradshaw's fumble. Given where and when that occurred that would have been game over as well -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) Oh God, Jake. STFU already. It's the same old s*** all the time. I know. I'd much rather hear him pouting and complaining and refusing to acknowledge he hasn't performed as expected. Why can't he just come out and say we are doomed and shouldn't bother tuning in to the Sox this year. He should just tell everyone to stay away, you know, to save some money and time. That's what he should be doing!

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 07:19 PM) Great win for us against UConn. Jarnell Stokes is a beast - it's amazing he should only be a senior in high school this year. Andre Drummond who? That's a good win for you. UConn looked awful. You got them at the right time. I have faith they'll be a different team come March once everyone is healthy. We need to get Boatright back though - if they NCAA wasn't dicking him around I firmly believe they would have won both games they lost this week -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) 1. Chicago White Sox 2. Kansas City Chiefs 3. Utah Jazz Craziness for a combo. -
How did you become a fan of (insert team here).
ChiSox_Sonix replied to HeGone33's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Let me preface this by saying my father is not a big sports fan so I had no parental influence like many children do with sports White Sox - I was living in Germany and my mom got my brother and I random sports shirts from store on the local army base. First shirt I can remember was the White Sox (brother was the Indians) Kansas City Chiefs - Used to be a big 49ers fan when I was a kid and Joe Montana was my favorite player. When they traded him to the Chiefs I followed him there. UConn Huskies - My "local" team should have been Syracuse, but there is a small UConn fan base in NY. I liked the mascot and they were on enough to be able to follow them. Seattle Sonics (RIP) - When I started following the NBA (I no longer do - GFY David Stern) Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp were big so I began to like the Sonics. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) How many will the ACC get in? 2? I'm not following them as much this season. Big East will get less than last year in, obviously. May open up more for Big ten to get in depending on mid major conference tourneys. ACC will probably get 4 -
What happens if they dont sign him? Does he get re-posted next year?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) This is big: @JonHeymanCBS Jon Heyman big blow for #tigers. team announces v-mart has suffered torn acl. Probably lost for the year. Doing what?

QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) The Big Bang Theory is atrocious. I would rather watch Human Centipede on repeat. At least that might make me laugh after awhile. Just continue watching the WNBA to fulfill your comedic needs

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) I'm not so sure that Syracuse's 2nd team isn't the 2nd best team in the Big East. Who's doing worse coaching this year, Dixon or Jay Wright? UConn still plays in the Big East
