  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) We're talking Peavy, though. Not Verlander. I don't like Peavy pitching in Coors. And any extra rest you can afford to give him works for me. Who would have been bumped up? I'd rather Peavy starting in Coors over Humber or Floyd as he's more apt to miss bats.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) It's not just the 4 days rest, but it's the fact that he's ending up throwing a ton of game pitches in an 8 day period coming off of the DL. If this was Buehrle, that's one thing. But this is someone that seems to struggle keeping their stuff for a week or so after a high pitch count game. I know you said this before the game started, so I'm not implying you're doing this in hindsight, but it's normal rest coming off what 60 pitches? I'm sorry, if Peavy can't handle that he shouldn't be pitching. I just don't believe this was a bad move. Unfortunately it's started off poorly, but even if continues this way I'm not going to blame it on starting "too soon".
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Absolutely no excuse for him to be pitching today. Bad, bad decision. Hector Santiago likely to get a lot of innings today. Yup, pitching on regular rest be damned!!!
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) Thanks to the original thread poster - this was a great read and being outside of Chicago... I for one sure appreciate posts like these muy mucho - as they give me insights into things that otherwise, I'd never be exposed to. Rock on brother (or sister). Rock on into the night. Same thing. It's nice getting recaps of this stuff for the out of towners. Thanks!
  5. At first I was pissed not seeing PK in there, but we do have 10 straight games after this so it's not the worst thing in the world to give him a day off. But man, Rios at 4 and Teahen at 5? Gross. That being said, even the lineup we're running out there should pound Cook, so that should not be an excuse if we only score 1 or 2
  6. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 01:49 AM) Thanks for the post. I also kept it really civil because I figured there was nothing I could do. And it's not the guy's fault at all. It's my fault for starting to be too clingly and wanting something serious, and her fault for not telling me how she really felt. I truly believe I'd be the best guy for her, but I also now think that I'm not the most compatible guy for her. All I did was tell this other guy that she's an amazing girl, and I wish the best for him, and don't make my mistakes. No, it's not at all your fault. And that really sucks you had to find out like that but better now than further down the road. I've never had that exact experience but last summer there's was a girl I'd been hanging out with for about the same amount of time and ended up running into her at a bar with her ex on a night we were supposed to have dinner but she cancelled cuz something came up. So I kinda know how you feel. Good for you to take the high road on that.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 04:33 AM) As Ozzie said in the post game....with our offense being this bad, you have to take every chance you can get to score because we aren't good enough right now to sit around and wait. Yeah, if we were swinging the bats even decently there's no way he sends him there. But with Rios and Beckham the next two up even I was hoping they sent him. Kinda sad when you realize the fly ball shouldn't score him but that it's infinitely better of a chance than the guys you have coming up. Either way, a win's a win and it was important after the loss the night before. Now let's take today's game - winning series on the road is always a positive.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) Let me say it another way then...if his stock hasn't plummeted, then the Yankees would need to be willing to get much less value for him now than only a few months ago despite thinking that he's an excellent catcher candidate. I don't see both of those being true. Is Danks really "much less value" than Greinke though? They've been known to overpay before. And it is a position of strength for them at the moment as well - he's not their only future catcher, and scouts are in love with Sanchez. Especially if Tampa makes a move and Colon and Hughes don't come back I could see them biting.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Ok, let me ask you this on the other points. If Montero's available, it's only because his value has plummeted in Yankee eyes. Would you have confidence in him recovering that value after being traded to the Sox, or would you instead expect him to go Brandon Wood on us? That's not necessarily true. Obviously the Yankees would try and get maximum value out of Montero if they were to trade him. However, most publications now list Sanchez as their top prospect. Granted, he is only in Low-A so he has a ways to go, but Romine is also highly regarded and he is much closer. So let's say the Yankees are unable to field any better offers involving Montero and become somewhat desperate around the trade deadline to acquire a SP to bolster their rotation. For whatever the reason may be, we are offering Danks. I just don't think such a proposal is ridiculous. Danks would not be a half year rental as they'd have him next year as well and who knows what their rotation will look like in a month. Burnett is unreliable, Hughes is still working out whatever was wrong with him not in the majors, Colon who knows now and Freddy is a back end starter. That's all I was trying to get at, is that there is a very conceivable scenario where they would part with Montero and it not necessarily be beacuse his stock is plummeting.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Rather than b****ing about what other people post you could just avoid this thread which is clearly about Hudson and the Hudson/Jackson trade. I don't know what you're talking about. I was just saying how glad I was that people track this stuff like they do. We don't have enough of that here.
  11. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) I've read this 3 times and I'm still not sure what you're getting at. Balta said: Greinke was traded to the Brewers in the offseason. Plus he's still under contract next year. Where are you getting this half-year rental from? So i clearly thought they tried to acquire him mid-season instead of during the off-season and had his contract status messed up. I also made two other points as to why that proposal was not ridiculous but apparently the mix-up was the only thing worth taking out of it.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) Ok, so Greinke is getting shut down after the AS break? Otherwise it doesn't make much sense to call him a "Half year rental". So I take it you're trying to say they tried to trade for him in ST rather than at the deadline without just making it easier and just saying that. Either way, if that's all you are going to take away from what I said then you missed the point.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) Greinke was only going to pitch April-June? ASB
  14. I'm so happy that this gets brought up after every good start! Otherwise, how would I, or anyone, know what people's opinions of this trade are??? I swear this topic never gets brought up or talked about enough here, so fortunately the constant bumping of this allows us to all remember it!
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) The Yankees wouldn't give up Montero for Greinke last offseason. Now they're going to give up Montero + Gardner for a guy on the DL with an oblique issue who had 2 really bad months to start the season. Their starting pitching situation is considerably worse than before and Montero is arguably not even their best catching prospect anymore. Danks also isnt a half year rental like Greinke was. It's not that ridiculous.
  16. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 03:00 AM) Keenyn_Walker Keenyn Walker Ya buddy! Finally becoming a part of the Chicago White Sox family!! #Bossin 2 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Good, this will give him two solid months of professional experience. Are they gonna start him in Bristol/GF or send him straight to Kanny?
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Leggo my Eggos!!! Boom. Nicknamed.
  18. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Managers are overrated. General managers hand out stupid contracts, overpay in trades and do terrible jobs handling the draft and player development. Time for Kenny Stanford to walk the plank. Managers are overrated huh? I wonder who it is that has been deciding to give Juan Pierre the most plate appearances on the team then? Cuz it sure as s*** ain't Kenny Williams
  19. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) I don't care so much about the fan voting. Thats only 9 spots out of 35 or whatever the number is now. What I do think they need to get rid of is the "one guy must make it from every team" rule. If no one deserves to go, no one deserves to go. I remember how mad I was in 2000 when the Big Hurt didn't make it, but Fred McGriff did because of this rule. The only guarantee should be the host team gets at least one, but I agree if the game is supposed to mean something take the most deserving players, regardless of team.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) Russell Martin is down to .230 on the year? Wow, that went down quick. That's what she said...?
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) While I'm sure that he hasn't just lost it overnight, I'm sure there HAVE been instances of players in any sport that have done just that. Didn't it happen to Chuck Knoblauch? Which is an example of a player where it was totally mental.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) OK, while I agree with you guys in that I thought it was a good signing for a reasonable price, there were definitely people saying the opposite. They were in the minority for sure, but they existed. You can't just say "hindsight is 20/20" to anybody who mocks the signing, as they could very well be one of the people who was saying it from the beginning. I can remember maybe two people being against it at the time. But I did say very few. I know they existed, but it seems like all of a sudden there are many more who just "knew"
  23. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Saw this on Twitter: So if you have any young kids who want to learn to suck at bunting, get caught stealing and throwing 20 times during a run down, send 'em to OG's camp. Meh. I'd be willing to bet Ozzie's camp is great for young kids. I'm sure the lack of execution on the major league level in bunting and stealing has little to do with him.
