QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) Someone mod me so I can make this ever important change like a responsible person. You may de-mod me seconds later. ORRRRRRRR save us all the time and hassle and just f***ing do it. I am angry now. Yeah I agree...it's not as if a post on this site has never made national news before...

F*** it III: Sox vs The National. First Pitch 7:10 CT

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Yep. We got to three under a few times, but always lost the next game. I actually think they may be putting a lot of pressure on themselves to get back to .500 since that is their short-term "goal". Once they can do that we may see them go on a bit more of a run now that they have that first hurdle behind them. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) I actually think my example is more what Chisoxfn is talking about, but you would have to ask him, but thats at least what I understood to be part of the problem, posters who are posting in negative absolutes just drowning out threads. He can correct me if Im wrong. But the post you used as an example would really only be found in the game threads. I kinda felt those were not being addressed here. Maybe I'm wrong, but those are always gonna be that way. They have for years. It's those sort of comments spilling out into regular threads that spurred this on.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) Examples of hyperbole are: Its a 3-1 game, White Sox are winning: "Sox will never win" There are a ton of posts in a thread that is just simply asking that people stop being so damn snarky and petty, that maybe approach the board with a better attitude for the enjoyment of all. As Ive said previously, Ill defend anyones right to say their opinion, but that doesnt mean I wont think they are a complete asshat if they post like one. It really isnt that hard. Well, to be fair, game threads are a completely different animal, and that's where posts like that will exist. You should expect anything if you venture in there.

Random question, but is that Ron Gardenhire's son playing for Rochester?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:39 AM) I don't know what to make of this, but I find it discouraging to read. Follow him to read his tweets... Kyle Colligan's Twitter His tweets are protected. What did he say?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:14 AM) Zimmerman has only had two games this year where he has given up more than 3 earned runs. Those were both back in April. So he's due for a bad one. He's not really striking out people too much and his HR/FB is really low. Hopefully we can make some decent contact off of him as we do have guys who can drive the ball out of the park. Admittedly I haven't seen him pitch at all this year so this'll be a first. But at any rate EJax had better show up because we may not get a ton of runs off of him. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) To be clear on what I said and you bolded... its entirely possible or likely that a single post like that will result in some sort of reaction from the Mod/Admin team, especially the personal attack - but if its isolated and not a poster-specific pattern, we usually say something in-thread, or send a PM, etc. I cannot even remember a time where a poster was just outright suspended before SOMETHING else was done first (exception being a brand new poster who posts 4 times, and its all that kind of crap). I'm sure its happened, but it has to be rare. Happened to me last year for reasons I still don't understand

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:27 AM) Any health professionals out there? Every once in a while, when I really stretch out my upper body or torso, I get this crazy sharp pain in my sternum and it'll linger for a few hours, sometimes up to a day or 2. It can get really painful when I move around too. It's a sharp pain, almost feels like I strained a muscle in my sternum or ribcage or something. If I take a really deep breath afterwards, I can feel it, but it isn't necessarily painful. Any ideas? PM ptatc. He's a physical therapist

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) I loved it, but it was no marvel of modern film-making. It was absolutely PERFECT for what it was though. Well i'm not saying it needed to win a bunch of awards and accolades, but as far as pure enjoyment factor it was quite high up there for me among recent films

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) I agree with milkman. It was overrated. Scorsese received the Oscar as a makeup for the previous snubs. Definitely not one of his best films. Are you guys serious? I thought the Departed was one of the better films I've seen in the past few years. I loved it.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) I appreciate the effort, believe me. The main flaw with the game thread idea is that it is avoided by many on both sides of the fence. I'm as pessimistic as it gets, but I avoid them as much as possible. The only time I ever post in a game thread is when I feel like I really need to say something to get it off my chest, and it's basically just one post and done. When I'm upset at a game, game threads usually make it even worse, so I don't even bother. I know other pessimists that do the same, as well as many optimists. I know I only post in game threads when they have day games during the week while I'm at work. Even if I'm home at night and able to watch the game I generally don't bother having my computer on and/or with me so on the rare occasion I make a post at night it's through my phone, which is kind of a cumbersome process, which is why I generally avoid doing it.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) I'm listening to Cowley on the score and he basically just called Gavin Floyd stupid (said he needs a lot of help to do cross-word puzzles, if he couldn't pitch, he'd be taking orders at Windy's). So shouldn't all Wendy's employees now be offended and demand to never be used in such a comparison again???

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) Well, I'm of the opinion that we'd get embarrassed in the playoffs. But I see your point. Put the caveat "and we lose in the first round" in there. Then that'd be the worst thing for the franchise going forward. I get your reasoning of that win total being in the "we're not that bad, let's give it another shot with the status quo" realm, but to me, any time you get to the playoffs I throw out the regular season. I will admit that winning 84-87 and not winning the division could be awful, but if that's what it takes to win the division this year, so be it. -

ChiSox_Sonix replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) Ugh, the very worst thing that can happen for this team's future is to take this division with like 85 wins. It would buy another 2 or 3 years for KW and Ozzie and would lead to the same stale and stagnant team/play that we've been witnessing for years. We need to infuse some new blood, even if it's not a complete overhaul. The coaching and administrative aspect of this team needs serious change in both personnel and philosophy. See that is just absurd. If we win in the 85 range and do NOT take the division, yes, valid point. But getting into the playoffs means anything can happen from that point on. I know people are tired of hearing it but look at the '06 Cardinals. I don't care how many wins we had in the regular season if it puts us in a position to play for a WS. -
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) Mexico vs USA on Saturday for the Gold Cup aka tallest midget of the formidable Concacaf group. That's a bit of a stretch. The credibility of Mexican soccer on the world stage has been there for some time now, and the USA has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 15-20 years. These are two legit countries now. Yes, CONCACAF has some minnows, but Honduras has gotten better, Costa Rica is usually good, Panama has improved greatly in recent years and Jamaica and Canada have their moments. The top of the group is still better than the OFC and AFC and probably on par with the CAF

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) Wins driven by the Stealth Elf have nothing to do with luck. You can add his potential (probable?) game saving HR robbery in the Oakland game last week too -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Drafted last year....Anyone know why he did not play in 2010? Still only 19. He played in Bristol last year too

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:02 AM) I think they should settle this matter with a dance off. Not the best idea, Peavy would probably hurt himself.
