Not looking good... -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) Right now his OPS+ is 81. Last year it was 87, when he put up a .723 OPS on the season. It was 103+ when he put up a .788 OPS as a rookie. He probably needs to get that OPS up in the .750-.775 range to be an average offensive SS. Huh. Interesting. I guess he's also a player that needs to be judged later in the year since he hibernates until summer.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) Seriously though, this NL s*** is waaaay overblown. The Sox are playing great defense all around. This hadn't happened this year. The Sox are getting key hits with two outs. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seemed like just Paulie and Rios were doing that before. The Sox are pitching GREAT - and look at their stuff. s***, look at how sharp Floyd was against Strasburg. We didn't luck into that victory. Floyd simply can pitch like an ace when he's on. Our pitchers are ON right now, not just facing weak hitters. Bobby Jenks seems to be back, and everyone else in the pen except Williams and Linebrink are still very strong. The Sox are beating GOOD YOUNG PITCHERS! Yes, the pitching is allowing them do it, but the key here is we are winning baseball games - even against the NL - that we shouldn't be winning normally. The Sox aren't supposed to beat Strasburg and JD Martin back-to-back like that. They're supposed to get Fisted like against the great Doug Fister. But they've been doing it with the bat, just enough. The Sox are also making good pitchers pay for their mistakes. Look at last night against Hanson. Knowing that at any point the guy could find his groove and start mowing guys down, the Sox jumped all over him as soon as they could. EVERYONE IN THE LINEUP was drilling the ball off this guy. When's the last time we saw that?! Look, the horses*** NL in general may have been what this team needed to get rolling, but now they're f***ing rolling. You don't sleepwalk through the type of road trip the Sox have had, no matter how good you are. If what the Sox are doing right now was so easy then everyone would be doing it - like, for instance, the Tigers and Twins, who I seem to recall had the dogs*** stomped out of them last night. What's happening is the defense is winning the pitchers over. The pitching is winning the offense over. The offense in return is winning the pitching over, and the pitching is winning the defense over after that. Everyone's relaxing, everyone's showing up to the park confident. Struggling players are starting to let their natural talents work for themselves. There is an energy in the way Omar is f***in' it up over at 3B. There is energy in the way Viciedo is swinging the baseball bat, and the way Chris Sale spoke last night about hurrying the f*** up and getting here so we have an even more dominant bullpen. Kenny is paying attention now, he's not sleeping anymore. Hudson will be up soon, it's inevitable. Kenny's about to go shopping. This summer is going to be fun, f*** the haters. I suggest you get the f*** onboard right now unless you want to be left in the dust as we pass the Tigers and Twins. Go Sox. And boom goes the dynamite. Great post.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) Yes, even at the SS position a .262/.294/.393/.688 line is below average. And why do we know he's capable of more power? Until he proves otherwise, 2008 might've very well been an outlier, as he hasn't shown anything close to that type of power in the last year and a half. I'm not gonna look it up, but is that seriously a below average line for a major league shortstop? I know he'll never be an OBP guy but I just figured his offense was at least major-league average for the position.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) Bornstein starting over Gooch, with Boca in the middle. Gomez starting next to Jozy. Edu in the middle Oh boyyyy do I HATE this lineup. Edu, yes, completely agree but Bornstein is terrible and Buddle > Gomez -
QUOTE (Pods70Rowand33 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) A few months ago I took the Amtrak from Chicago to Syracuse. It was a 13 hour trip, wasn't actually that bad. The train ran from 9PM-11AM. Most of the traveling was in the evening hours, then I didn't have to waste a day traveling. The reason we took that instead of flying was because it was on short notice and was quite cheaper. But glad you booked your trip! Have fun! Where did you book? And how much was it? I'm intrigued because when I drove out there from NY last year it was a 12 hour drive. I'm going out again the last weekend in August so I'd love a decent alternative to driving there again. Thanks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) So yeah, may as well note this, if anyone from NW indiana wants to catch a beer on the night of July 3rd or 4th, perhaps at the Blue Chip Casino, please get in touch. I was there last September when we went out that way. First time i've ever been at a casino and had to pay for my drinks while gambling.

I am going to be terribly unproductive at work this morning starting in about one hour -
Nice to see Jose Martinez is back. Hopefully he can work his way back to Kanny before the end of the year

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Good news, I think. Alexei's bat is still below average, but we can't afford to lose that glove. Ehh...at the shortstop position? I'm fine with it. He's on pace to put up a .262/14/62 line at that position and we know he's capable of more power than that so there's not a lot of complaining to do there for me.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) Is it wrong to hope that Alexei can't play tomorrow so hopefully Hot Fire will be in there at 3B (Vizquel to SS) for the game tomorrow in which I will be attending.....? Ugh... Awesome to see the offense play well, especially against a pitcher who had been on quite a roll. Linebrink needs to go.

This win streak...how much credit goes to Ozzie?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) Not on here. To second guess after a victory is negativity that does not compute with me. Oh stop. You were the loudest on here about it being impossible for us to sweep the Pirates last week. -
Why is Randy Williams on this team?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) He is beyond horrible. Did you see the link Kalapse posted above? The 6th worst reliever in the last 110 years of MLB (minimum of 24 appearances). So you're saying there's been worse? -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) So the consensus seems to be "Ozzie deserves no credit for players performing, but plenty of blame when things go wrong" That's how it always is here. -

The ref has destroyed the Chile-Switzerland game. On the whole, FIFA should really be ashamed of the performance from the referees so far. -
Chris Sale signs for a bargain; expected in majors this year

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 09:28 AM) Strasburg's is much worse. He will either blow his elbow out, or not. Nobody really knows at this point since so many factors come into play. That's quite the large limb you went out on there. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) I'm not sure how smart it would be to let a kid like that come to the big show without paying his dues in the minor leagues first. Plus the Sox aren't dying right now for left handed pitching. Getting another left hand arm isn't what would put us over the top right now. Randy Williams says hi. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) The pitching is starting to resemble what it is supposed to. God forbid Gordon and Q actually stop sucking, the lineup could be fun. I'll maintain that this is not a bad team. They are not as good as the Twins andthey've obviously played like dogs***, but i really feel with a couple breaks they could have competed this year.
