Official: Omar Vizquel Signs with Sox

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Or the signing of an elite defender to backup 3 infield positions. Doesn't really matter how old you are when you're still fully capable of doing what a team asks of you. ^^^ Doesnt matter how many times this is has already been said, some people just don't get it. -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) Say hello to your new Oakland A's 4th/5th OF! Yeah a team like them or the Nationals I could see doing that. I don't necessarily agree with it, but that must have been their assumption. Either that or they have no faith in him ever becoming a regular major league baseball player

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) I'm really suprised that we didn't protect Shelby. I thought this year was going to be a breaking point in terms of prospect-status for him, but the potential the Sox saw him with still exists. No way he doesn't get claimed. I bet they just feel there's no team willing to select him and have him on their major roster all year next year.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) That's $600K over the league minimum, it's not going to keep the Sox from making any other moves. We needed a backup infielder who can play good D all 3 positions and Vizquel fits the bill. Exactly. If JR gave KW a 95M target this year (assumption) and Kenny wants to go sign someone in March but can't b/c it would put them at 96M b/c of the Vizquel signing, I guarantee JR would be okay with that... -

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) I'm speaking in general terms of course, most players hit their peak between 27-32. Oh, and that is if you believe he ACTUALLY IS 28. What is Vizquel going to teach Alexei an infield coach can't? There are not any huge secretes. Wow. Look at the assumptions and accusations you're throwing around in this thread. Now Alexei might not even be as young as he says is... -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) Seems like a waste of money if you ask me. Sign him as a bench coach and use the salary towards bullpen help. I guess it comes down to whether people feel he's better than Nix at backing up the infield...I doubt this deal would be for any significant type of money. -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) Yeah I'm in no way buying any of this Morel > Viciedo stuff. If that's how other teams view Morel then trade him right now. Dayan is being underrated. I know. Kid is twenty years old for chrissakes! He already has one pretty decent albeit far from spectacular year in AA under his belt. Some of the comments from people from the outside and from this board about him I just laugh at.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) Starting the Feb 2nd with NO weeks off, I think the season (16 days, 18 hours...the open and finale will be 2 hours long) would end May 18th. If they took two weeks off for the Olympics, then it's June 1. Unless my math is off. So they're gonna show two weeks of episodes then take two weeks off? Lame.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) I'd like to see a movie with some Juliet or Kate nudity. She has a few lesbian scenes with Angelina Jolie in Gia.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) Final Season finally set to start Tuesday, Feb 2nd. Starting as late as it is better mean no weeks off. Unfortunately that's not the case. It's already been mentioned.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) That was just for his visit, but it was pretty awesome. And Harris says he signed with the Vols! Great get for a program like ours! http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2009/nov/19...as-signed-vols/ Oh, and here's a link to that picture of the Rock that Juice was referring to... http://www.volnation.com/forum/attachment....mp;d=1255107767 Good. Keeps him out of the Big East. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) That'll be very interesting because both England and Australia are going hard for that also. England's probably gonna get it in 2018 I would say, while Australia's probably a better chance for 2022. Yeah Europe's gotta be getting it in 2018 I'd think. I know Australia is making a push for it, but I think the US has a great chance at the 2022 WC. To this date the WC in 1994 was the most attended and drew the largest revenue and ratings. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 04:50 AM) Here's a list of the top 10 White Sox prospects from the Hardball Times. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/fantasy/...etroit-tigers2/ Viciedo at 7, Shelby on the list at all, and saying Mitchell was not a first round talent makes me completely ignore that writer's opinion.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) Mean ACT for 43 males is 21 and standard deviation is 5. Mean for 56 women is 20.8 with a standard deviation of 4.7. At 1% level - I am trying to find the Null Hypothesis (claim) and its complement. P-Value and the decision (reject for fail to reject) as well as if there is significant or insignificant evidence. Anyone know how this could be calculated? I haven't done this in years and have been trying to help her for hours!!! Thanks! You can't make up the H0 and H1 hypotheses without a conclusion. You need one or the other to answer this. You can find the P-value off of a chart if by using your N-values and the alpha value, which in this case is 'plus or minus' .001 But, there just isn't enough information here. I don't even see what the question is or what the claim is supposed to be...?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) I was gonna get another Bachelor's but I figured what's the point in that, if I can just get another M.A. after I get the first one, whenever that is. It also justified to my parents why I was staying a 5th year haha

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) How many degrees do you have? I also have a History degree (with a focus on Medieval Europe) so if I ever decide I want to become a teacher later on in life I can just go and do 1 year in a master's certification program. I also have 2 minors. I had a ton of AP credits from high school so I essentially walked in as Sophomore but I took 5 years anyways. Actually wasn't that bad.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) George Mason couldn't even get a shot off after a timeout. Awful execution in the last two minutes. Nova escapes. Nova had 4 players foul out too. Two of their freshmen came up with huge shots down the stretch there. I wonder why Yarou didn't play at all. -
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) The science part of Political Science refers to the scientific method we all learned about in like 5th grade. Independent and dependent variables, hypothesis, etc. etc. PolSci uses the same method as other sciences, but instead of running experiments to prove the hypothesis we have to look at historical trends and causality. Science doesn't have to be limited to test-tubes or excavation. The one difference I'm willing to acknowledge is PolSci doesn't have overwhelmingly supported theories like evolution for biology or gravity for physics. Ive heard it put as "there are no laws of political science." Not that I think that forbids PolSci from being counted as a scientific discipline. I guess a good follow-up would be, is Political Science important? That probably was Coburn was getting at with this amendment. Well yes Poly Sci is an important field of study, but I still think it needs to be distinguished from the natural "sciences". One of my degrees is in Statistics & Actuarial Science, and we use lots of different tests and hypotheses with variables and constants etc...I still think it needs to be put into a different "field" however.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) Pretty sure Matt Innouye left the organization already. If Corley or Marrero really need protecting, I'd choose them over most of the ones mentioned at the beginning of this thread. But I do like Gartrell, I really think people are missing the boat on him. I'd like to keep Marrero but no way I protect him. I doubt a team would pick him up in the Rule 5.

Jordan Danks hit a 3-run HR; Morel also 2-2

Is mathematical science a science? Is computer science a science? I tend to agree with the no it's not a science in the way chemistry, biology, geology etc are sciences.

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Headed to a buddies house to take in the rebuilt Heels. Excited to see how long it takes for the youngsters to gel. If the guardplay of Drew,Dex, Graves, McDonald can be reasonably solid then I like the Heels chances. A lot to ask for the young guys in UNC's backcourt at this point though. The Buckeyes have a great chance tonight. Ohio State should win, but that doesn't mean they will. I still don't buy UNC as a top 5 team this year, but we'll see. They're still a very, very solid team but next year is when they will be back into the elite IMO. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) Anyone planning on heading out to South Africa in 2010? I really, really want to. But it's been tough finding people who want to go and it's an expensive trip so it's looking like it won't happen. I doubt i'll be going to Brazil in 2014 so it looks like I won't be going to a WC until 2018 wherever it is in Europe. As for the France-Ireland game, how unfortunate for Ireland to lose like that. I was really rooting for them. At the same time, in the heat of the moment it may have just been a reaction from Henry. The ref or linesman has to make that call. There is no excuse for missing a call that obvious and blatant. The fault completely lies with them. Also, poor Robbie Keane, he had a golden opportunity to win it in regulation and made a bad decision that cost him.
