  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) San Diego San Antonio Does San Juan count? Carrabelle, FL Really? I hated San Juan. Just seemed kinda dirty and sketchy to me. The outskirts of San Juan were alright but not the actually city IMO
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:10 PM)
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) I like the move. Good luck Brett. At the very least, this means less of love affair style coverage time can be dedicated to the Brady Patriots, Cowboys and Giants...
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) Coop just said at least two more AAA starts for Peavy. Crap. That still places him right around the original return date(s). Not really unsurprising.
  5. Atlantic City - I love to gamble and they have nice casinos down there. Hotels are surprisingly pricey but I can get there in just 2.5 hours drive so i deal with it. Wildwood, NJ - Very tip of southern Jersey. Have been there probably 10-12 times. Nice beaches and food, a large boardwalk + water park. It's fun. Cooperstown - Try to go every summer. Unfortunately havent been sine I game a presentation there a couple years ago. It's such a nice little town. And not just for the HoF either. Very pleasant and relaxing. Boston - Just a nice city. Lots of history, fresh seafood, comfortable climate in the summer, just a lot to do there. Las Vegas - Only been there once, but I had a blast and can not wait to go back. Quebec City - Yeah, it's in Canada, but it is very pleasant there. Scenic and "old" looking in a good way. Very reminiscent of Europe. And it's nice being immersed in a different culture (French) yet still being so close to home.
  6. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 01:24 AM) I've defended Alexei all year, but when I saw that play where he got thrown out after the error I immediately said he should be benched. If I had been Ozzie I'd have taken Alexei out right at that point and put Lillibridge in there, and I wouldn't have cared if Lilli struck out in every AB from that point on through the rest of the night. I hope Ozzie talks to him and then benches him tomorrow. In all fairness, he did what 98% of the players in this league do 98% of the time. That ball is dropped by someone in this league maybe 3 times a year.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) He really uses the term "world-class" loosely. Give it a f***ing rest already. We get it. You think US soccer is a joke and not worthy of discussion blah blah blah. He used that term once to describe what, 4 players? Howard has been playing at Man U and now Everton over the past 5 or so years so there's nothing wrong with labeling him as that. Donovan could play just about anywhere in the world if he so chose to. Oguchi Onyewu was a manistay at Standard Liege, the best team in Belgium, and was just signed by AC Milan. No problem there either. Dempsey is a bit of a stretch, yes, but he has been playing in the Premiership for a while. He doesn't even mention Altidore there who has a legit possibility to become a 'World Class' player in the near future. You're a moderator. You don't need to run in and try and cut down or belittle or make snarky comments whenever someone mentions the US or something about US soccer in a positive light. It's like trolling, and it get's old. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Another young Serbian international signs with a big club today as 21 year old Nemanja Matic joins Chelsea. Vidic, Tosic, and Ljajic at ManU, Ivanovic, Rajkovic, and now Matic at Chelsea, Milijas at Wolverhampton, Zigic at Valencia, Dragutinovic at Sevilla, Subotic at Dortmund, Stankovic at Inter, etc.... But by all means, keep bringing up your beloved Serbia all the time. Everyone here cares about them so much. Oh and as to the bold...you're really using the term "big club" loosely there aren't we?
  8. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Well that's just terrible. Booing the greatest player your franchise has ever seen. +1
  9. Apparently there's another celebrity sex tape that got leaked to the internet, starring Rebecca Gayheart, Eric Dane, and Keri Ann Peniche
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/090817 Bill Simmons has an interesting article up about US Soccer and the USA-Mexico match last week
  11. I'm apparently in the minority, but I'm really rooting for him. I'm a Chiefs fan so I don't have any ties to him or the Packers but I have always loved watching him play. Growing up and even recently there were certain players I just loved to watch even though they weren't on my team (Favre, Steve Young, Barry Sanders, Faulk, Peyton Manning). I'm could care less how Minnesota does, but I hope Favre does well. Yes, this drawn out process has been annoying as all hell and it goes beyond ridiculous, but it is what it is. I have always enjoyed watching him play, so I hope he does well enough this year to give me one more year of enjoying to watch him play.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Except for the giant recession. that kinda limits your choice. There's always an excuse. I know.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) Yes and no. I know, in my case, the job I was offered had better pay and stability than anything else I would have found immediately after graduating college. But the health coverage sucked. So, I could have taken a job somewhere else with lower pay and maybe a SLIGHTLY better health option, or had no job with no health coverage. Right but that was your decision. As you said you could have waited but admittedly it would have been a gamble. You chose the safer option. That job wasn't going to lock you into it for the rest of your life, it was just your job at that time. If you desired better coverage, nothing prevented you for searching for such a job while employed elsewhere.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) That's the point. You don't have a fiscally smart decision to make in the current system. You take whatever your company offers or you pay out the ass. Well that "point" is asinine. So should everyone complain about their 401K also and ask that that get taken over too? It's still your choice to pay into it or not. No one is forcing you to do so. If you don't like it go look for another job. What happens when you get fed up with your supervisor? Or your hours? Or your salary? You deal with it. How you deal with it is up to each individual. I wanted to go on a cruise with some friends again this summer but I deemed it too expensive this year since I am moving into a house and had a bunch of other stuff I had to get done. It was my decision to forgo the cruise. It wasn't fiscally smart this year. People always have choices and more often than not they can work things out if they truly wanted to. But, it's much easier to cry about it being impossible and looking for a handout rather than doing something to change your situation, whatever it may be.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) When less than 1% of people decline their employer's health insurance and go out and get some on their own I fail to see that as a true choice. And yes I made that figure up but I'm probably not far off. Why would you decline health insurance that is esentially "free" from your job? It's not a fiscally smart decision. And if the coverage is so egregiously bad that you feel a need to get rid of it maybe you should have factored that into your decision when weighing said job offer. No on makes you accept the job. Benefits, such as salary, work environment, location, stress, etc should be taken into consideration when pursuing jobs. I fail to see how anyone can not view that as a choice. It actually fits the definition of a choice to a 'T'. To me, it's all about the "Something For Nothing Club", and people just keep wanting to hop on that bus.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) It really isn't much of a choice if you want to be honest with your self. In this job market who's going to decline the health insurance offered by their employer to pay an exorbitant amount elsewhere? It's still someone's choice. I've wanted to move into NYC for over a year now but with the economy I'm just riding it out where I am. Once it get's better I may start to look again. But, again, it's my choice. And yes, having the health insurance I have does factor into it.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) For most professionals, health care coverage is part of your compensation. My company won't give me cash in lieu of forgoing those benefits. Essentially, to switch, I'd be taking a pay cut and having to turn around and spend a few hundred a month. Well that would be your choice to switch now wouldn't it? Benefits, such as health insurance, 401k etc would be just as important a factor in switching jobs as location and salary would be for me.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) and when its a monopoly, you can't leave the private corporation if you want that service. Good thing there isn't a monopoly then.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Strasburg's value declines if he doesn't sign. Can he still go back and pitch at SD State? He still has one more year of eligibility, so yes.
  20. To me they are not even comparable situations. The end result of what happened with the Stallworth incident is clearly worse than the Vick situation. I don't think anyone would argue that a dead human being is less tragic than dead dogs. But the actions can not be judged by the outcome. What Stallworth did was make a tragic mistake; a gross error in judgement; a poor, poor decision. What Stallworth did not do was go out that night with the intention of commiting an act in which someone would die as a result of. And let's not forget that it wasn't as if he swerved into a sidewalk, the man was jaywalking on a highway. What Vick did did have the intended consequences. What he did required forethought, premeditation, planning, money, effort, work, time etc...He bankrolled and participated in an illegal activity for years, for which the result was heinous and unbelievable cruelty and malice towards many dogs. He led and profited from an organization that tortured, beat, killed, and maimed these animals. Not to mention the theft of family pets to use as bait for the pitbulls. I really feel you have to separate two things here; intention and result. Clearly, the loss of a human was tragic, and was the result of an action by Stallworth. But who hasn't made mistakes under the influence before? Who hasn't done things they regret. It does not excuse it, but his character and person should not be judged on one, albeit egregious, mistake. What Vick did was not a mistake. Not even close. Thusly, the situations are hard to judge on the same level. What Vick did much more closely can be used to judge his character/person than what Stallworth did.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Killing an animal is not murder. And neither was what Stallworth did.
  22. That's f***ing awesome. Thanks for sending it to me. I use excel a ton and consider myself extremely proficient but even I had a difficult time trying to follow all the formulas. Great job
  23. Someone else said this perfectly a while back. But for out of towners, often you end up watching a game by yourself or with people who could care less about the White Sox. So watching a game with Hawk broadcasting is like watching the game with a buddy.
  24. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) "No word on what the Sox plans are for Cannizaro, but I ultimately believe this move had more to do with AAA than the majors. The conspiracy theorist out there may think Cannizaro was acquired to replace Getz (who'd go on the DL), but even if Getz injury was more serious than we've been told (leading to the DL), the Sox would first turn to Brent Lillibridge." Ugh, I hope not. People keep saying that when Lillibridge is brought up, but c'mon. WHO ELSE DO WE HAVE? Josh Fields? Can't play middle infield. And right now can't play period. Keith Ginter or Eider Torres? No thank you. CJ Retherford? Would he be able to make the jump from AA? Wilson Betemit? I mean it's not like we have many other options. And if Getz were to get hurt Nix would be the regular. We'd be looking for a backup and Lillibridge could provide good 'D' at multiple spots and is a good option to PR with. No one else should really even be considered.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) The jekyll and hyde nature of this website with any win or loss is the definition of hilarious This. I remember when it didn't use to be that way too. Shame.
