Pittsburgh 16 straight losing seasons, most among the big 4 leagues. Its the Pirates hands down. At least the Nationals franchise has produced some big time players in the not so recent past

QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) And Lucas Harrell... but if they aren't pitching, Allen is pretty much the only one to keep an eye on, isn't he? I've been keeping an eye on Negron, but he's old so basically you're right.

Did Sirotka ever attempt a comeback? I checked his BR page and it didnt show any minor league stats after 2000. Curious to see what happened to him. It'd be strange if he was unable to pitch ever again with the way guys come back from surgeries nowadays. i liked him too, was sorry to see him leave and get hurt

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) I'm in love with the new Madden. They finally on the next gen systems decided that every player should not have the same physique. It pisses me off that the opposition kicks to Hester only like 20% of the time, but that's realistic. This game is just good, it looks great, it feels real, and Rex Grossman even gets injured in it. My only complaint is that for some reason Mike Brown is dark black instead of light, and his face isn't on his player. I don't get how you miss him. The rosters are also deep... the only issues I noticed were obvoiusly Favre (whom you can release from teh legends team and edit down a bit to move to the Jets), and Pennington who you move to Miami. This is a good game that stays challenging. Download the online roster. Favre is on the Jets (94 overall). Pennington move hasnt been done yet but others have.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 08:11 AM) Eh, maybe I've just lost my gauge for what 16 year old girls look like. The US had the opportunity to step slightly ahead of the Chinese on the balance beam, but they just couldn't capitalize. They looked completely shaken after that. 18 of the US's 27 medals have come from swimming so far. We're ahead overall, but we've got a bunch of Bronze medals and the Chinese have a 17-10 advantage in golds. I have no idea how many more medals each country is going to realistically be competing for, though. I thought she was 18? I dunno But we'll excel on the track as usual. I dont think China has nearly as many medal candidates there. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) An Olympic basketball player doesn't interfere with the NBA season. For baseball, the Olympics fall right in pro baseball's prime time. So you have to miss time you're otherwise getting paid by a pro baseball for in order to play in the Olympics. But some of the minor league guys are on team's 40 man rosters? I gues i dont completely get it

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) We have the best athletes in every sport except those really major ones that we don't. Those Chinese athletes looked WAY younger than 16. Then again, Shawn Johnson looks like she's 12, too, so maybe they're just really young looking? I wouldnt say Shawn Johnson looks 12...she has a young looking face but thats a bit of a stretch. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 01:20 AM) Yeah, by being called up, he became ineligible for the Olympics. Then how are Blaine Neal, Mike Koplove and Taylor Teagarden on the team? They all have major league experience dont they?

Ya i didnt include Fox b/c I never saw him play. I only included people I saw play, since its hard to have a favorite player you never saw, IMO. This list will be skewed towards recent memory just b/c of the demographics of the site.

QUOTE (wcw2323 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) I think it should have been Haeger instead of Broadway. he has outpitched Broadway since the All-Star break May. Perfect long man from the pen who can eat up innings. Fixed. Haeger's a guy i wouldnt mind seeing when rosters expand b/c you're right, hes the perfect guy to eat up innings.

The American mens soccer team drew out Netherlands yesterday 2-2. I got up to watch it and it was a good game. The US were the better team in that game from the 46th to 80th minute without a doubt. However, then they kinda fell back into a shell and the Dutch tied it on a free kick in the 93rd minute after a stupid foul by Stuart Holden. And speaking of, just a few minutes earlier he blew a 2 on 1 with Klejstan on what would have (should have) sealed the win. I gotta say Freddy Adu was the best man on the field. He is majestic in the middle. That pass to Klejstan to set up the equalizer was beautiful. He will miss the next match b/c of yellow cards though and thats gonna hurt a lot. Game against Nigeria will determine who advances. A shame Adu and Bradley are gonne miss it. If i was the coach i'd start Altidore up front for Adu and birng up Edu from back for Bradley and start Ianni. We'll see what happens. American soccer has a bright future though, which is a great sign. -
Vote Alexei for Rookie of the Month award.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I think it would have been hard to know if he was going to quit eating and run out of that thing knives blazing to get his second course. I believe thats why they barricaded the door and disabled the engine (at least i thought i read that)

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) I see what he is saying though. A bunch of people with their lives in danger trapped in a public transportation vehicle. If he was threatening all of them and they had no way to leave the bus, it would be a better analogy. As the stories stand though, it doesnt fully apply. but not totally offbase Yes, if he was threatening all of them or as someone said, the driver, and they were all in danger i can see the correlation and i'd agree people would probably band together to protect themselves. But with this stroy, at the point when everyone would have realized what was going on, it was too late for the victim. I just cant see, or justify, putting yourself and others at risk to approach a psychopath with a knife just to prevent him from mutilating the body. That may seem callous, but the guy was already dead, at this point there isnt anything anyone can do.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) What I thought of here was on 9/11 when the passengers of one of the planes stopped the terrorists from crashing it into whatever building they were aiming for. I think a lot people, at least Americans, would band together against someone doing such a terrible deed even if some damage had already been done. (Who's to say he wouldn't go after someone else with that knife?) That is entirely different and i dont think that analogy really works well here.
