  1. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) I can't tell you how disappointed I've been in Quentin in the field. Could be he's actually better in right, but I had heard he was plus defensively. Not so much. Unbelievable hitter right now, but the D has been a bit suspect. I could be wrong, but I thought I remember someone saying he came up as a RF?
  2. Alexei not off to a good start today. And if we keep pissing away these chances we're gonna find ourselves in a hole here pretty soon
  3. 4 hits, 3 walks in 2.1 innings We need to start getting these runners in
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) and Jenks usually blows the save vs them. Who do both teams have coming up in the suspended game? Looks like Millar/Huff/Scott for Baltimore and Q/Crede/BA for us. I'm not actually sure how it works though since both teams have different personnel now though. 5. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) I can't decide if it is funny or sad that some people just cannot grasp the concept that this is a list of favorite players and that nobody's opinion is any more or less valid than anybody else's. I think more sad. And annoying.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) I'm predicting a top 5 of Thomas, Buehrle, Quentin, Konerko, Paniagua Thomas, MB, Ventura, Durham, Rowand
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) Its really interesting to see the sudden surge of middle infield talent the system has seen this year. Beckham, Escobar, Silverio, Miranda, V-Merc, Paiml, Mollenhauer, Persichina, Kuhn... So, as a fun exercise, I think it would be fun to predict who will end up where in the system (what team, what position) to start 2009. What do people think? My guesses... CHARLOTTE Hudson and V-Merc to rotate between SS and 2B, with Bourgeois and Getz going to the Sox bench B-HAM Paiml, Miranda and Persichina to rotate through SS, 2B (Paiml and Miranda being the nominal starters) W-S Beckham at SS, Escobar at 2B, Mollenhauer repeating and rotating through both positions KANNY Kuhn at SS, Avila at 2B GF Silverio at SS, ??? at 2B As the season goes on, promotions will occur of course. Just curious about opening day 2009. One or more of these guys could end up traded too, which changes things. I have a feeling Beckham may start at Birmingham, especially if he impresses during ST. I also wouldnt be surprised to see Miranda start at W-S since he didnt do too well there earlier this year and Escobar repeating (at least to begin with) Kanny. Escobar is still only 19 and in his first season of pro ball. While putting up respecatble numbers at Kanny so far, they dont merit an automatic promotion next year IMO.
  8. Carmelo has 21 points and has made just 3 shots And Manu has only 2 for Argentina
  9. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) 2008 IP to date is 150.3 2007 IP was 139.0 What was the litmus test on acceptable increases to innings pitched before breaking down your pitchers over the long term? Generally its considered 30
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) What is their record since June 1? They have to be playing .700 ball, these guys just don't go away. Since June 1 45-27 .625 Wpct Since June 11 42-20 .677 Wpct (over a full year, that would equal a 109-110 win season!)
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:03 AM) Of course, Torii Hunter completely misplays a ball to give Minnesota the victory. Ironic. There's a gift...if they can get Span out, they should be able to get Casilla, as his hand is still bothering him. This scenario reminds me of what led to this all-time soxtalk classic post... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry332285
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) I would, he's not very good. The last thing this team needs is another outfielder. If anything, call up Owens for pr purposes. We dont need any more OFs, you're right. But i really think the Sox need to call up Owens when rosters expand. Someone with his speed available to pinch run would be invaluable later this season in some game(s), i'm sure of it
  13. Anyone know about Wise's injury? Just curious as I know he had to leave the last game.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:05 AM) This favorite Sox players thing just lost all credibility. How the hell is Willie Harris on this list? I know of one Willie Harris fan on earth. And we all know who that is. I know one thing, Scott Podsednik better come up at some point. If Willie f***in' Harris made it then he better make it. I like Willie Harris more than Scott Podsednik so i guess that makes 2. And, he wasnt even on my list. And Scott Podsednik never even sniffed my top 25.
  15. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) And there's always the "Your GM wasn't smart enough to get a probable MVP for a Class A firstbaseman" option. No, but he gave one up (i know thats not exactly how it went, but still)
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) There must be a generation gap or something, because this is the most literal bunch I have ever seen. Either that or you can't handle your "analogy gone awry"
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Isn't that what Patrick Swayzee has? Pretty certain
  18. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) Unfortunately, that's pancreatic cancer. Once you have it...that's just about it. Sad. RIP. Ya my grandma died of that earlier this year (she was pretty much gone for other reasons anyways) but no one even knew she had pancreatic cancer till just a couple weeks before she died and it was a fluke they even were checking that part of her body when they found it. Fortunately it is a rare cancer, because it is something like 90% fatal
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) I guess you missed it, because there was a point in there. The level of competition and the tools of the player do make a big difference in what someone's future will be at the next levels. Statistics aren't everything. .400 in D-1 in a mid-major or major conference is still .400 in D-1 any way you cut it. yes, competition does mean something but its not like he was playing for a podunct D-3 school or somehting
  20. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) Wow, the U.S. softball team lost in the gold medal game. Huh. Good thing they're removing softball/baseball, seeing as how the US is just too good
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) Charlotte at home against Indy Haeger vs. Barthmaier http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...indaaa_chraaa_1 Owens 4-6 2B 2SB now hitting .282 Fields 0-5 3K hitting .236 Eldred HR #34 2RBI (96) Cook 3-4 2B HR Nice to see Owens hitting. I really think he'll be a nice addition to have on the bench when the rosters expand.
  22. I think i had him on my list, but if i didnt that was wrong.
