Sucks that Alexei couldnt come home on that
-
No one would have predicted this pinch hit in April
-
Where'd that hit him?
-
You know Swish and Alexei will be swinging for the fences here

It's not like we're in a playoff race or anything

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) Excuse me, but what happened to Griffey? Or why can we no longer play Quentin in LF with Swisher in CF? Oh and I would easily take Brian Anderson over Jerry "I have no business in the big leagues" Owens. Griffey, along with Quentin, are only available to PH tonight. -
60 pitches through 5 innings, thats definitely a good way to make a pitcher work. 9 runs in our last 50 innings now.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) let's throw Jerry Owens into the lineup... oh and MacDougal last night, that's cute too. WTF! Seriously, why, when we're tied for first, is JERRY F****** OWENS playing?? Only other option is Brian Anderson. -
Danks needs to be stellar tonight.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) but is he available to go on the playoff roster, say he gets hot and starts pitching well? If you are called up after September 1st, you may only play in the playoffs if someone who was on the 25 man roster on Aug 31st is currently on the DL or no longer with the team. Then, the team can replace said player with any other current member of the 40 man roster, provided they were on the 40 man roster on Aug 31st. At least thats what I think the rule is

Glass half empty or full; Pessimism/Optimism?
ChiSox_Sonix replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am very skeptical of our chances at this point just b/c it seems we havent played well yet. However, I refuse to believe the Twins are actually better than us, and call it blind optimism but I am confident we can take 2/3 in Minny later and I think TB will take 3/4 against them in a couple weeks to allow us to enter our last series up a game. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Yeah it was pretty disheartening to find out Marion Jones was a fraud... this would kill my interest in track & field. Track and field was already hurting from the recent drug busts and they needed someone like Bolt, which they got. If it turns out he was one of the Jamaicans here, Track & Field will be hurt even further and for a lot longer.

By playing one more year, Frank could conceivably reach several more milestones 1500 runs 2500 hits 500 2B 1750-1800 RBI 1700 BB 525-550 HR It'd be nice if he could hit those markers, but like others have said, he would do so probably at the cost of his .300 average. I want him to keep playing, because i'd love to watch him more, but i'm fearful he will only hurt his legacy by hanging on to long. Tough decision. I kinda think he'll try to play one more year if some team offers him a contract however

I think everyone is looking too far into this. Charlotte needed an IF for one game. They werent going to sign someone b/c thats just dumb. They werent going to promote someone from W-S because they are in the playoffs and they arent going to promote someone from Birmingham for just one game, they're going to let those guys finish out the year on their teams with their teammates. They sent up Oney b/c they know he doesnt have a future. He barely played in Kanny this year. The reason he was there was b/c they needed a guy at backup to play once a week (or less) when a regular needed an off day. They werent about to promote someone with a future to play the role of a guy coming off the bench to receive 10 ABs per month. IMO, Oney was being used to fill a need that no one would want anyone with any sort of potential to fill. I think people are overreacting to this completely, IMO, as I feel it means nothing he played one game in AAA b/c they were in need of a player. Remember when Adam Ricks played a couple games in AAA last year? He was not there on merit. He was there b/c he could be sacrificed from his current team to fill a need in Charlotte after they had people called up to close out the year. Its a non-issue IMO

I don't really know what I am, but i have voted predominantly Republican since I turned 18 six years ago. I couldnt possibly feel any stronger against universal healthcare, and am very, very anti-illegal immigration(i want to build a wall). To me, universal healthcare would be a colossal mistake for this country and I pray we never have it. Canada has it, and people say how good that must be, but for many situations it is not. I had a Canadian teacher in college for several classes and he told me on the surfacr it looks good, but one of the reasons they remain in NY is b/c of the level of care they receieve through their provider here. I think thats probably why I have voted how I have. I do have many "leftist" tendencies however, such as being pro-choice, pro-legalization of prostituion and marijuana (so the govt can tax the s*** out of them and reap the benefits), and willing to give any current illegal immigrant a time period to gain legal status in our country. However, I also support the war. I agree we need to leave, but unlike the Dems, I dont believe we can just up and leave in the short time period they want to and actually cant believe they think that would actually work. I support the right to own guns and have that kind of republican attitude, but I am against whaling and the fur trade (liberal), but I think the PETA people are nuts and I enjoy a nice steak. So i dont think i even fall in the middle. I have ideas that are on each spectrum. I know i'm voting McCain this election, b/c the issues that mean the most to me, he better fits my desires and shares similar ideas with me.

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) I find the responses interesting. Pretty easy to tell which parties people support by their comments. Obama fans are finding faults and bashing the pick. What a shock. Or just continually finding critical comments made by others and posting them...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) I think that it probably doesn't play poorly esp. if she holds her ground in the VP debate, but I can't fathom how the McCain campaign could ever bring up experience as a negative again. They'll try, but yeesh. Btw, is it worth noting that AK was actually looking quite swingy before this move, and this might well actually help McCain in a state? How many electroral votes do they have? Can't be more than 3. It could happen, but I doubt the difference in the election is within 6 electoral votes.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Obama spokesman Bill Burton: Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same. I know your just posting a quote, but from the little I have read about her so far that appears to be flat out wrong. I found this in a USA Today article She stood up to the powerful oil industry, and with bipartisan support in the statehouse she won a tax increase on oil companies' profits. and Neither, Palin said, will the state, as she prepares to lead deliberations for a multibillion-dollar natural gas pipeline. That's the economic future of the state, a means of getting North Slope natural gas to consumers throughout North America.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) Good point, plus the prep work is crazy. Remember when the Astros had a 32 day road trip when the Astrodome was used for a convention? Too bad they cant rent out the Metrodome longer and tell the Twins they're SOL

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) NOt just the women, EVERYONE was watching. However, all the women in this office said it was a terrible move. I think it may be a bad move b/c of her extreme inexperience coupled with the fact that this has all the looks of a VP pick based on image or trying to grab votes as opposed to merit. I could be wrong, as I've said, i dont follow politics as closely as most of you, but to me it seems like that could be the case.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) McCain has now set up a great political shield: Dont attack him, he's a POW. Dont attack her, she's a woman. And Obama could never think of anything of the sort to "protect" himself

When looking back at the old cw threads, i hit the "next oldest" thread button several times to see some old threads and i stumbled upon one of Tex's polls that I figured i'd bring back up. I just find it funny that he asked this as a poll http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...=10996&st=0

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) This would be really monumental if McCain's motive wasn't so obvious. Either way now theres guaranteed to be history in the White House
