Good job C-Rich! Now let's get him some runs

I think we're gonna have to score 10 again today...

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) Then what would 2 be? 3. Just like 17 would be 9

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Hmm, maybe it isn't a math test. And you got the 15 correct as well. Have you heard this one before? Oh i just got it. Tricky tricky

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) Ok I get the point that we have no idea what they would bring in return (which I don't really believe with BA), but I think the insurance thing is a bunch of BS. Getz: Uribe, Richar will be on the field before him Really? I'm not so sure Getz and Richar wont be in a battle for 2B next spring. Also, from accounts people have made here who follow our minors closely a lot like Getz as a nice utility player. The utility player is a niche that teams like to have. If we have one waiting in the minors who's young, can only get better and is cheap, i'd say that is fairly valuable. Especially considering no one would give you anything of significance for him. I'm a lot more comfortable knowing we have BA available to be a defensive replacement in CF on the bench than if we had no choice but having to rely on Swisher/Wise no matter what. Come September and/or the playoffs, that could prove to invaluable. Plus, trading him now wouldnt get you much. The potential is still there but his value is next to nothing. No point in trading him at the moment. Well Richard goes today, but we have no idea what he'll give us. Egbert too has never thrown a big league inning. Masset has been pretty meh at spot starting. Russell isnt stretched out. Loaiza is throwing 80mph. Broadway has been awful since May in AAA. Ohka sucks. Not too sure i agree that we have plenty of capable spot starters there. Haeger did very well last September. Granted, they were meaningless games out of teh pen but seriously what do you expect to get in return for him? I'd say not much of value. However, he is a 24 yr old knuckleballer who has been pretty good the past 2 months. He has proven he can retire big league hitters (albeit in a very small sample size). He's only been throwing the knuckler a few years now. He will probably never develop into anything more than a #5 pitcher but since it costs us nothing to hang on to him, I'd rather not give him away.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) Ok, then give KW best GM in the AL Central. That I can see. But best GM in baseball? If you're just counting on the results of the crap shoot that is the playoffs, you have to give it to Epstein. I'm still not seeing what criteria makes KW the best GM. Why do you have to give it to Epstein? While I agree he has a done a good job, what has he done that makes him so beyond a doubt better than everyone else? He came to a team that already had Manny and Papi. Signing Dice-K doesnt count, that was only a matter of who had the most money. He aquired Beckett and Lowell but he gave up Anibal Sanchez (no-hitter) and Hanley Ramirez (top 5 player IMO at age 24). A GM is repsonsible for putting pieces together but he cant control how the players play. The team we had in '06 and '03 should not have choked like they did, and thus it is not a GM's fault. And to whoever threw Cashman's name in the process I have to disagree with. He's done a decent job but its hard to say a guy who gave ludicrous contracts to Kei Igawa, Carl Pavano, Kevin Brown, Jaret Wright, Hideki Irabu etc... should be mentioned twoards the top. Plus, until recently, they havent had exactly the best farm system. Personally, i voted for Beane, but if the Marlins GM was there i would have considered him too. Its not just about results. Not every team has the same resources and as such not all GM's have the same capabilities. Its all about doing what you can with what you're given. And it's remarkable how often the A's are competitive while seemingly always rebuilding and how many young players the Marlins sign, trade for and develop.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) I hear some of you talking about KW trying to rebuild the farm system and not going for much this break, but I ask you this.... Why do we keep BA, Haeger, Getz, ETC around? We all know that they will never be everyday/week starters for the White Sox.... Might as well get something for them while they are still young rather than let them sit around in the minors like Dewayne Wise.... Because they are worth more to us now (or potentially in the future) in the role they fill and the insurance they provide than anything we could realistically expect to get from anything they'd bring back in trades

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 08:01 AM) If 1 is 3 and 3 is 5 and 5 is 4 and 4 is cosmic. What is 7? Is this an actual brain teaser? I'm confused...haha

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) The best part was the post game interview with Swish, which they moved into the dugout so he could watch for the inevitable shaving cream pie... So Toby Hall sneaks through the guts of the park, into the 3rd base camera well, then sneaks into the dugout and whams him with a facefull of shaving cream anyways. Classic. Are these post game interviews available anywhere online for us out of towners?

The White Sox and Sonics are (well, were *sadface*) my favorite teams and when i first registed on the Espn.com boards i decided to spell Sonics with an 'x' to match the Sox. I remember the Buerhle>Wood debates over there...they were classic

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) Valido should have been gone a long time ago because of his production. When you also factor in the facts that a few of us with close contacts win the org have informed us about Valido (I won't go any farther than that as I refuse to put the exact details out there, but if someone looks back at his past they can probably read between the lines). Wasnt Valido busted for PED's a few years back? Or am I thinking of someone else?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) So did Uggla have the worst possible game or what? 0-4, 3 K's, an inning-ending GIDP with a runner on 3rd which would've ended the game in spite of his 2 errors in the bottom of the same inning, and then another error later for good measure. Geez. You kind of feel bad for him. Even though I wanted the AL to win, I've followed the Marlins since their inaugural year as my "NL team". I felt real bad after Uggla made those two error immediately following his GIDP with teh bases loaded. When the NL got out of that inning I was actually kind of glad so he didnt have to be the goat. No one scored b/c of any of his errors

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 02:34 AM) It does suck...I liked Schnur. It's hard to argue with the decision though...he's a 24 year old 1B/3B who hasn't hit a lick this season, and there are players below him who deserve a shot. It was a put up or shut up season for Schnur, and he was quiet all year. Valido is 23, has drawn rave reviews from Ozzie in the past, and plays middle infield...there are differences between the two, but I'd be quite surprised if Valido is in the organization come this time next year though too. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up...from everything that's been mentioned of him, he seems like a hell of a guy. Hopefully someone can help him figure it out. That's pretty much exactly how I feel as well. He's been in the org now for a while and hasnt produced much in th elast couple years. Also, drawing comparisons to Valido arent good b/c they play two different positions. It does kinda suck though that he was released just prior to his birthday as JPN said. Gotta wonder if this was done to promote someone possibly?

Yeah that must be a pretty neat compliment for a player to hear

Dinosaur Barbeque in Syracuse in NY is really good. Also, if you ever go to Cooperstown there's a place called Brooks' BBQ about 15 miles away in Oneonta that has been featured on the Food Network before thats very good. I've eaten there a few times when i've gone to Cooperstown.

Not surprised by this. He'll catch on somewhere. I'll always be thankul for his contributions in '05.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Ok, why does Ian Kinsler need to take a beanball, on the body, because some pitcher couldnt handle Ozzie Guillen talking smack? Where is the justification? Ok lol, I wasnt the one who said he should get plunked. I was merely trying to point out that saying our pitching staff should bean the leadoff hitter does not necessarily mean they should go after his head. I believe the poster that said that meant so to send a retaliatory message of sorts to Texas for something CJ Wilson may or may not have done. I didnt see the game, so I dont know what happened and wasnt trying to interject an opinion on this specific incident. I was basically just trying to convey that there is a difference from saying someone should get beaned and someone should get hit in the head. Apparently, people assume different things when they read that. When i read that someone should get beaned, I assume it means somewhere other than the head, b/c to me that is a different idea altogether. Just my opinion, didnt mean to try and suggest anything else.

Bump Any update on Jose?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/beanball That's the definition I'm familiar with. Yes but thats a bush way of retaliation. I have no problem with a pitcher throwing a hitter if its low and justified. I didnt witness what happened in Texas, i'm just trying to point out that just b/c someone says they need to hit so and so, that doesnt mean they have to go after his head. And frankly, any pitcher who does head hunt I lose a bit of respect for.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) For anyone in NY, I've had John's and Patsy's thin slice pizza, and I thought both were amazing. Pizza is so much better over here than what you get in Australia. John's is good...if you want good pizza go into Brooklyn. DiFara's in Midwood, Lucali Brick Oven in Carroll Garden and Grimaldi's in the Heights are all really good. (But if you go to Lucalis you better be ready to order cuz if you hesitate they'll just go to the person behind you who speaks up). Also, I was at a friends place in Alphabet City last weekend and we stopped at a place called Rosarios in the LES which was phenomenal.
