KW "We're a lot closer than the record indicates"
ChiSox_Sonix replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:23 PM) I don't see how we're close. On a macro level, the team lacks power and is still terrible defensively. On a micro level, the Sox need 1 #2 starter 2 top end bullpen pitchers. 3B LF DH We could fill all of that and still be lousy defensively and lack power. That isn't close I think we're fine with Quintana there and Rodon knocking on the door. Better to spend money elsewhere. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) ND is a pretty young team. Only 2 offensive starters + 1 defensive starter + kicker/punter are in their last year of eligibility. Even though FSU is overrated and vulnerable, beating them is a tall order for ND. Winning 2 of 3 against Stanford/Arizona St/USC and finishing 10-2 would be nice. Should be preseason Top 5 next year. I think FSU getting scares by Clemson and NC State was bad for Notre Dame. Now there's no way FSU looks past them towards Miami and Florida (their historic rivals). -

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) I didnt even pay attention to this matchup last night because I didnt think there was any way my opponent could catch me. Ended up hanging on by .15. Big fan of that. Well first of all, I would have totally been worried that a combination of Charles and Gronk could combine for 42 points in a PPR league, but secondly, watch out for stat corrections, you never know when it's that close. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) Holy crap; it is happening. I am really torn on whether or not these are still serious posts

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) Knile Davis looks so much better than Charles right now. Charles is averaging 5.5 yards per rush, but Davis looks straight up explosive. This is not true. They are very different backs. Charles is quicker and much more elusive. Davis is more of a plodder and straight runner. You are thinking that because he blew through a wide open gap for a big gain when half the Patriots defense was going the other way thinking it was a reverse. And Davis is terrible in the passing game. Davis is great and I'm glad the Chiefs have him but there really is no comparison. And just an FYI, if Charles does go down again, De'Anthony Thomas will take on a significant role in the passing game out of the backfield. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) It looks like Charles just got re-injured. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) Right after I drop Knile Davis. Ugh. He's fine. He cramped up, got a quick IV and came back for a few plays. Reid said he pulled him because of the scoreline. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) Nah, unsportsmanlike because the returner went to his knees after he scored, he didn't even really celebrate. No fun league. Yeah, Abdullah is a devout Muslim and he went to his knees to pray. They are saying he was flagged for the "slide" into the pray, but I bet that's not why the official threw the flag. I'm sure it was a mistake in hindsight, but this could get very interesting if the NFL does fine him. -
Guerra and Quintana look to hit "super 2"

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 08:07 AM) Signed through 2018 with 2019 and 2020 team options. 2015 - $3.4 million 2016 - $5.4 million 2017 - $7.0 million 2018 - $8.85 million 2019 - $10.5 million (team option or $1 million buy out) 2020 - $11.5 million (team option or $1 million buy out) Had he not qualified for Super 2 status, his 2015-2018 salaries would be as follows - $1 million, $3.8 million, $6 million, $8.35 million They knew when he signed he would probably end up being Super 2. Still a great contract and he's well worth the extra $5.5 million the Super 2 status bumped his contract up. Yeah, good for him. This is still an absurdly cheap contract. Don't care about the increase at all. He more than deserves it. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) I picked up FIFA 15 today. Between that and Madden, I'm going to do nothing but play video games for a while. How is it? I bought a PS4 a couple weeks ago and was planning on picking it up for it once it came out

So Kyle Orton is now the Buffalo starter. My main league allows the QB in the flex (so it's essentially a 2 QB league) and I have the #1 waiver right now. Very happy I haven't made any unnecessary waiver claims so far this year -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) So I won again this week. I am currently 4-0 in my 10 team ppr league. I also just made a trade this morning, now this is what I was offered, I get McCoy and Mike Wallace for Montee Ball and Steve Smith. Hopefully McCoy picks it up. Made some other roster moves as I dropped Romo, which could cost me later but whatever. My team is currently: QB Rodgers RB Lacy RB McCoy WR Julio Jones WR Bryant WR Sanders TE Vernon Davis FLEX Mike Wallace DEF Bengals K Bailey Bench RBs West, Bradshaw, Chris Johnson WRs Gordon, Stevie Johnson TE Witten DEF Lions. Thoughts? No idea 3 of those players (sub Ball for McCoy) were available in rounds 3-5. -

QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) IIRC, there was only one poster here who openly disagreed with the trade in the first 24 hours of its aftermath. IIRC, that same poster also advocates for 26 year old AA journeymen to be promoted and gives up on 19 and 20 year old kids in single-A who don't immediately set the world on fire so there's also that -

I've heard rumblings that he isn't very respected in the locker room. His personality and antics might actually do better in college in the long run. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) I was offered Cordarrelle Patterson for Vernon Davis and Terrence Williams. My other TEs are Kelce and Witten. I'm tempted to make it, especially because I think CP's value is at a low point. But I have zero trust in Witten. And while I feel better about Kelce, he still splits time with Fasano and his QB is Alex Smith. Any thoughts? I'd make that trade in a PPR league. CP and Witten will catch passes and Davis will have "bad" games because of all the options in SF QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 01:19 AM) Alright, I have to pose this scenario and y'all tell me if I have a right to be mad or not. Currently, I'm pretty pissed... My roommate is also my league commissioner for a league with all of our old college buddies. We were out at dinner when I got a trade offer I had worked all day on getting. Our league doesn't do official veto's, so the commish just accepts all trades as soon as the 2 parties agree. So I ask him "Hey, when we get home, will you go ahead and approve a trade I just made?" He says sure, then he asks who I traded for. I tell him because I didn't think it was a big deal. Apparently while we were eating, he texts our buddy who I made the trade with and tells him he'll up the offer and to cancel the one he made to me. That's f***ed up, right? I would never tell anyone else in my fantasy league about a potential trade. But because he's our commish and I need his approval to push it through, I thought it would be fine. He's completely in the wrong, right? If he wasn't the commish, I'd have never even mentioned the trade. He abused his power, correct? I know it's just fantasy football, so I feel a little stupid being mad over this. But I can't help it. That's messed up. That guy should not be the commissioner, but the commissioner should also not have that kind of power IMO -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) Guy offered me Jimmy Graham and Asiata from Alshon and Alfred Morris. He didn't understand why I laughed at him. Eh, that's really not bad, especially in a PPR league. Graham is a monster and there is no one else in his category at his position. Jeffery is a high upside WR2 bordering on WR1 but has to deal with his teammate for targets. Morris is better than Asiata but they are closer than you think in PPR formats since Morris catches about 8 passes per year. From an opportunity cost standpoint, and without knowing both of your rosters, that really isn't a bad trade offer, especially in a PPR format -

QUOTE (farmteam @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) You might have something there, given the huge jump in "no" for the 65+ group. A significant part of that group would have actually lived through the war, and even the ones who were born shortly thereafter might have felt the united nationalism a little moreso than those even born a decade later. I read there was a real concern from older citizens about what would happen to their pensions if they split off from the UK.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) I got a 10.4 point lead and he has Cutler. I can start Alshon or Ivory. Assuming Alshon plays, I should roll with him, right? He's not 100%, but he can take points away from Jay and Ivory depends on TDs for points, even against the s***ty bears run D. That's tough. I'd probably go with Jeffery but I'd wait until as late as possible to hear/see how he is feeling. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) So one serious question for you since you're certain that the NFL doesn't have a domestic violence problem...are you 100% convinced that incidents of domestic violence would get reported at the same rate for NFL players as they do for everyone else? Between money and the fact that NFL teams (and college, for that matter) are generally thought to be able to get people out of some problems, I wonder whether I can trust the stats that 538 processed there. Just for an example, something tells me that if I flipped a car off a highway, totaled it, and then left the scene before the police arrived, I'd have some serious problems. Using your own logic and previously mentioned thoughts by many throughout this thread, couldn't you also assume that the national average is actually much, much higher since the majority of DV incidents are never reported? They're working with the data they have there. If you're going to question one part of it and think it may be higher, you have to do the same thing across the board.

Interesting results by age in the Scotland vote showing a very large pro-Independence viewpoint among the younger generations. This could be an issue again in the future.
