  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) "cart" very rarely means anything other than "major" Not anymore really. Writers love the sensationalist headlines of "so and so carted off the field", while technically correct, might just mean the player rolled an ankle and rode in the front seat to get taken back to the facilities. Schefter did that with Eric Berry a few days ago.
  2. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) i am doing nothing
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) How about last year when someone posted this: Yeah, that was Steve
  4. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) I don't get all of you guys rating Davidson so high. I'm trying, but it just doesn't compute. He is hitting .200 with a ton of strikeouts and is clearly regressing from 2013, and those numbers were not so hot. This is his 6th pro season. He has 2650 at bats as a pro -- almost 3000 plate appearances. Not a small sample size. What do you guys need to see in order to put him further down on your list, or gone completely? He's 23 years old. I continue to be amazed how you just completely avoid age pretty much every single time any prospect is discussed.
  5. Got club level seats near midfield for the Roma-Inter Milan match in Philly on saturday. Looking forward to it. First time at the new Eagles stadium and first time seeing European soccer teams in person play
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) No. Ok.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) If you beat your wife, does your employer suspend you or take part of your pay check? If you get caught driving drunk or shoot yourself in the leg, does your employer suspend you or take part of your pay check?
  8. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) He broke the rules and took a banned substance that both masks PEDs and arguably is one itself by boosting testosterone. Even if you believe his story, his ignorance and laziness are not good excuses for breaking PED policies. You're right. Beating your wife is not technically against the NFL rules so it makes total sense that the punishment is less severe.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) It's not that different in other countries either. Bayern, Juventus, Ajax, PSG all dominate. The EPL has the advantage that multiple teams have giant budgets, so there is enough high priced talent through out that a bunch of teams could win. You're just looking at recent history. Yes, the top clubs all have a huge advantage and generally finish at the top but the way it is in La Liga is absurd. Since 1984, only 4 titles have been won by someone other than Real Madrid or Barcelona, Atletico last year, Valencia twice and Deportivo. Bayern's absolute dominance is relatively new. They've won a ton of titles but they haven't run away like they until recently. There is generally more competitiveness throughout that league. Serie A is generally a three team race with Juve/Inter/AC Milan but Napoli, Roma and Lazio have won in recent memory too. And PSG in France is a new Arab money phenomenom. 6 different French clubs have won the title in the past 10 years
  10. Barcelona: Messi, Neymar, Suarez Real Madrid: Ronaldo, Bale, James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema That's absurd. It's also kind of disappointing to see the hoarding of the best strikers in the world all in the same place
  11. I thought Kris Honel was up there at one point too. Guess not
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) That's it? Are you sure there's not a federal forgiveness program for teachers? There is. My brother qualified for it. Has to be in a qualifying district, however.
  13. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) I don't see how it can function in baseball. When you reverse the call, you have to then resort to imagining the way the rest of the play would have gone. For example, because a call can be overturned on the neighborhood play at second base to result in the runner actually being safe, shouldn't all teams be instructing their players to keep running in this situation if there are 2 outs? Even if the umpire originally calls you out to end the inning, it can still be reversed at which point shouldn't you be awarded home if you decided to keep running? Its just one example of how stupid the whole thing is. Baseball is not played with a time clock like other sports, which means the action never really stops until a play is ruled over. if the play is reversed then the play never really stopped, meaning its basically thunderdome on the base-paths. This is a great point. I don't know if it was discussed on television, but I was at the series this past weekend and saw Viciedo's catch get overturned. That's fine, since it wasn't a catch, but the problem is when he got up he threw the ball into the infield and the runner going to 2nd should have been out if it was not a catch, since he thought it was caught and started back tracking to first base. Too many things can happen after specific parts of a play that have to have assumptions then applied to them
  14. I was in Cleveland this weekend for the Sox series. People were chanting his name on the street, yelling it from cars and selling the most ridiculous shirts. There was "The Return" shirt, "For6iven", "The Kingdom Restored" and a mesh of Lebron's face with the Chief Wahoo logo (Yep, really). It was nuts.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) I was in Germany for the 90 WC Final. Never seen mayhem like that before. I was too. Outside of Stuttgart. I was young but I remember car horns/sirens going off, what sounded like fireworks, lots of noise in general. Between that and the wall coming down we were certainly there for an interesting stretch of time.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) They played pretty well against Germany. Certainly better than Brazil. They played terribly against Germany actually.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) 3 games under, 5 to play. Wednesday: Sale vs TBA?- Chalk this up as a win. Boston doesn't look like they are trying in the least bit. Thursday: Quintana vs Lester- Lester has been beastly this year but it's clear the offense behind him doesn't care again. Another W. Friday: Noesi vs Kluber?- probably lose this one. Saturday: Carroll vs Masterson?- Masterson has been nothing short of horrific this year. Carroll has been better but we'll call it a tossup. Sunday: Danks vs Bauer?- Bauer sucks. Danks has been better. Easy W. There you have it. The jinx of all jinx threads. 4-1 and back to .500. Then when we get back we get to sweep Houston at home 3 games. Then we are in the thick of it...As well as screwing ourselves over for the trade deadline. There's a good chance we lose Friday & Saturday for no other reason than I am traveling to Cleveland for the weekend and will be at the games. I swear the Sox are something like 2-10 in games I've attended
  18. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 07:15 AM) Thoroughly impressed by The Last Ship. It's a well done action show that hasn't (so far) had any bad moments. I like to nitpik shows sometimes, and when it comes to military, shows can oftentimes be inaccurate. This show does a good job, all the way down to the ribbons the commander was wearing. Nice to see that sort of attention to detail. Watched the first episode of The Leftovers last night. I like it. Definitely a lot of mystery going on along with the overlapping storylines. I was going to cancel HBO to save some money, but I think I'll hold off until the show is over. I've also enjoyed The Last Ship a lot but some of the dialogue is beyond cheesy. When they saw the man hanging at the gate at Guantanomo, the captain literally said "revenge is best served cold" when one of his men wanted to go after those responsible
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 04:41 PM) Is this how their women's team became so strong? The US probably should have won that final in 11, but Japan was far better on the ball. http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sport...d_football.html Really good article about it if you're a soccer fan. Tom Byer is the man's name. And I guess he's now doing the same thing in China Both very good and worthwhile articles if you're interested.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) Interesting, I don't remember that, but I'll have to try to look that up. That does prove my point though, the best chance for a non UEFA/CONEMBOL team to win it all is when they host it, whether it be due to the fan support or ref support. I think Japan could be interesting in the next 10-15 years. They have completely changed their youth program and have brought in someone (I forget who) to help implement it. There's videos online showing kids as young as 4 or 5 working on skills on the ball. I think of anyone outside of UEFA/CONCACAF to win other than USA/Mexico, I'd put Japan as next most likely
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) "children should be a privilege only the wealthy can enjoy!" is one of my favorite jenks arguments. Well that's quite absurd. The wealthy shouldn't be the only ones privileged to have children. Everyone should be privileged to have as many as they can afford, whether that be ten or more or in some cases zero.
  22. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) I know a few people. They won’t come right out and say it in so many words, but they sure don’t have any motivation to stop receiving that check from the government and actually go out and look for a job to support themselves. They are perfectly content letting other people support them. Yeah one of our friend's girlfriends was pulling that s***. She was a server for years, from chains to mid tier to bars to not quite 5 star but pretty nice restaurants. Well, she went back to school in late 20's (commendable) but couldn't retain the good server position due to limited hours. So, she filed for unemployment and in the mean time only sent her application to the highest quality restaurants over and over knowing she wouldn't get a job so she could prove she was trying. Then, got a part time bartending job under the table and continued receiving the gov't check. Also turning down part time hobs because the pay would be about the same as the check. Both of them were okay with what they were doing because "they deserved it since they've paid into the system for a while". The rationale that it was okay because of that and because she was now a student disgusted a few of us and unfortunately has driven a small wedge between us. We're still friends, but things aren't as close as they used to be. The feeling that it was "owed to them" I do think is more prevalent in society than it has been in the past
  23. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) After watching this it kind of makes me want to get into MLS.. Chicago Fire any good? I'm excited about the new NYCFC team. I'll definitely be checking out some of their games when they start play next season
