Jose Quintana extened thru 2018 - 5 yrs, $21.5 or $26.5 mill
ChiSox_Sonix replied to Feeky Magee's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm super impressed with Hahn. Not just what he has done externally, bringing people in, but internally as well. This is an amazing deal for the club and Quintana gets financial security for himself. I haven't been this excited about the future of the franchise since right after we won back in 2005. -
It'd be great if Danks became a solid regular OF'er. I don't think he will be one on a contending team but he has seemed to have slowly gotten better and better and I think he has become a very good 4th OF in the majors. He has some power, has some speed and plays plus defense at all 3 positions. He deserves at least a 4th OF role right now but our current roster situation prohibits that right now with this team. He'll be back up eventually and hopefully he proves most people wrong and can become an even more important contributor down the road. Either way, I think he's show enough where he will have a several years making millions of dollars as a MLB bench player.

Other than your team winning, there isn't anything better in the tournament than Duke going out early to an underdog

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 12:39 AM) I saw that today, 86% spike. Wowzers. It was up nearly 200% during AH at one point too

I have a very small position in OXiGENE but that has played out nicely overnight. Most of my money is in other sectors but I like to keep a small amount in biotechs just in case one like this happens to hit on a successful trial. (And in non-investing news, the positive report is great for research as well)

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) Those guys come into play two episodes later. The filler episode you will watch next week kind of builds into the following episode. The season appears to be trying to build up characters and relationships and create a new game plan to extend the series. The draw of the series is down a little but I still find it entertaining. I don't think they are trying to figure out ways to extend the series. They are roughly around issue 60 of the comics if you tried to place where they are now in the timeline. And for reference, they just released issue 122.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) I think people are underestimating how hard it is to find aircraft debris in an immense stretch of ocean. If the plane did break up badly in middair, the pieces are so small, you need to fly pretty low to spot them. Flying low also means you have to take a LOT of time to sweep an area of thousands of square miles. I haven't read up a ton on this so maybe it's been answered, but don't planes have transponders that allow them to be tracked on radar?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) Shameless is back to getting on track a little. Lip finally met the cutest girl he's going to date so far...if the roommate's g/f can't keep his attention with "midnight" bj's. I thought Shameless last night was hilarious. Every scene with Mickey or Kevin has been golden this year.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) If you have to make a 42 yard FG as an extra point, kickers are going to be targets. No they're not QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) Kickoffs used to be great. Now, they almost all end in touchbacks. I know, and that sucks. They never should have moved the kickoffs up. It was just a reactive move under the pretense of "safety" that they hoped people would actually buy. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) Maybe, but the thing is, teams have very few goal line or 2 yard line plays. Going for 2 becomes advantage defense pretty quickly. I am not in favor of any rule making kickers more significant. Just make it automatic unless you want to go for 2. That's not true. And the 2-point conversion rate is around 50% so both sides are about equal here. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) I think they are great ideas, at least the extra points. Making extra points 42 yards just makes a kicker's role bigger, which is exactly the opposite of what I think everyone would want. It also would mean a lot of cheap shots into kickers because if your kicker got hurt during the game, you would be screwed. I don't know how that possibly correlates. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) I believe the Vikings were the first (or one of the earliest recorded) society to outlaw/punish rape. Related to Vikings, I'll always remember what my Middle Ages professor said in regards to what gave women the grounds to divorce their husbands: 1) Impotence 2) Catching your husband in the act 3) Bad breath

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) That's the exact opposite of what I think needs to happen. Instead of making the PAT harder, make it free. You score a touchdown, you just tell the referee that you are going to take the one-point PAT and it's yours. Or you can forfeit the free point and go for two. Also, since kickoffs are almost always touchbacks anyway, let's eliminate first half kickoffs and just put the ball on the 20. Keep the kickoffs in the 2nd half to allow for the possibility of onside kicks. As an added bonus, you would probably shorten games by 10 minutes or so. Those are awful ideas. Kickoffs are great and extra points need to be more difficult. -

I still watch it and generally enjoy it, but last night's Walking Dead may have been the worst episode of the entire series

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) Lol, "I hear it is quite common in other villages." Nice sell job. I don't know much about Viking social practices, but aren't they giving women a little too much freedom and choice? Would his wife really been able to respond that way? Weren't Vikings all about life and death to the point that more babies (and sons in particular) = better for the Gods, regardless of personal relationships? Women actually had a lot more freedom than many other societies at that time. They had clearly defined roles and were not allowed to do many things, but when it came to personal freedoms they were fairly well respected.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) So New York would technically be one state, with the entire state voting for 2 US Senators and giving its electoral votes to one Presidential candidate, but aside from that each part would have its own government, complete with a governor, legislature, and tax laws? Very interesting concept. I wonder if that could work judicially, because lawsuits are filed by/against states and not parts of states. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/f...s-for-big-appl/

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014...ts-green-light/ Of course, any changing of state boundaries requires Congressional approval, along with the affected state(s). Splitting California into six parts would add 10 Senate seats (and thus 10 electoral votes). I haven't drilled down to the voting patterns of each of the six areas, but I assume that at the very least South California would be heavily Republican and perhaps one or two of the others may lean Republican as well. I can't see the Democrats in Congress agreeing to anything that would tilt the Electoral College in the Republicans favor, so this seems like a pointless exercise to me no matter how much sense it might make. Not trying to bash Democrats here, as of course the Republicans would do the exact same thing if the roles were reversed. Theres a recent proposal going on in NY as well. Basically splits off Manhattan Island, Long Island, Staten Island and 3 or 4 counties just outside of NYC into one district and the rest of upstate NY into a second. To avoid the requirement of congressional approval, they would not technically be separate states, but separate "districts" within the state. Basically, they would share the existing senators but operate as two separate entities.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Rumor has it the Browns are extremely high on Derek Carr. I don't think he slips out of the 1st round. Also I'd love it if the Bears used a middle round pick on Aaron Murray. If I'm Cleveland, I'm taking Sammy Watkins at 4, a QB (Carr?) with their 1st round pick from Indianapolis and then someone like Carlos Hyde or Tre Mason in the 2nd round. You add that to what they have coming back and they are a potential playoff team IMO

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) I definitely think they'll both be there. --- Going to St. Louis for the draft to watch with (at least) a couple football psychos. I love the draft. Beckham more likely. I've heard rumblings of Benjamin going as high as 16(?) to Pittsburgh. If they're gone I'd completely support trading down and taking Jordan Matthews in the 2nd

I really hope one of Benjamin or Beckham are there for Kansas City to draft at 23
