  1. anyone know the scouting report on porcello?
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2007 -> 06:28 PM) That's actually a fair point, which is why it's fair and logical to realistically leave the teams as is until July (maybe I should have titled the thread "blow the whole f***ing thing up in July"). But this has all the makings of a lineup that will do what our staff did last year. There is no sign that 7 guys will suddenly emerge to have career years hitting and that 2 pitchers will be untouchable for months for us like the Twins got last year. None at all. Yea we don't have 2 lights out Starting pitchers... instead we have 5 pitchers who have pitched 6 innings for 23 straight games.... and before you say that thats not impressive or meaningful.... add in the fact that they have ERA's between 3.20-4.10. Having 5 starters that legitimately can give u a damn good chance to win every single game means alot. And the bullpen today showed signs of being s***ty....the last 2 games at least.... But they have also showed signs of being lights out. 9 runs in 2 games from our bullpen is awful. But its cost us 2 games. It just makes it seem so much worse that it was against the cubs. We forget how good Aardsma has been for us now cuz he came in and had a bad inning. I also remember him throwing 5 strikeouts in 2 innings against the indians... and i think the bases were loaded with nobody out. in a season, players tend to have great games (vs. Indians) and bad Games (vs. cubs). Its how well they are in between that matters. And they havent been that bad in between
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2007 -> 06:18 PM) The funny thing to me is everybody saying we will start hitting. Well first of all, we have the worst hitting coach in the game and a manager that gives away free outs left and right bunting, even in tie games in the 7th inning when a gale wind is blowing out. Second of all, all of our starting pitchers had great track records going into last year, I kept hearing "well when they recover with this offense, we'll be unstoppable!" It never happened. This looks exactly like last year, only in complete reverse. Only difference is we didn't get off to a great start this time, the 2 teams we are fighting with this year might be better than the 2 from 2006, and now even our bullpen is starting to show signs of being pathetic. And I won't even address the incredible, hard to believe that he's still being defended Ozzie stuff again. i thought u said we should look to the "retard past" for examples...your words not mine.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2007 -> 06:04 PM) Do you except us to pull Johan Santana and 7 players having career years at the dish at the same time, along with a lights out bullpen and 2nd half swoon from the 2 teams ahead of us? I love when people go to the retard past examples though, "OMG THE CUBS CAN WIN, HOUSTON CAME BACK FROM 10 BACK IN 2004!!!!11111111" All im saying is i think its too quick to give up and "blow up the team" when we are around .500 and our hitting is doing so poor. I dont mind going in and making changes... but i dont think u have to completely blow up the team. Konerko and Crede are around .200 right now Dye is at around .220 These guys are doing so much worse than their career averages.... i say at least wait and see a little longer to see if they can turn it around. If they dont pick it up in the next few weeks, then make changes. But you have to give them the benefit of the doubt that they will turn it around. To me at least you should. Our SP is doing damn good and our bullpen is struggling as of late. Who would think that we'd be above .500 with a team batting avg. of aournd .220? Give them 2-4 more weeks...thats all im saying
  5. lets just give up now... i mean, no team could be doing so terrible at this point in the season and make the playoffs right...especially in such a great division!!! Twins Record on May 19, 2006: Minnesota 18 24 .429 9.5 Who won the division last year again? your right...doesnt matter.... lets just give up now
  6. anybody think KW may turn around and trade Floyd and someone else for some like Crawford/baldelli?? Or do u think this it?
  7. Interesting that it says the Angels turned down this deal and not the Sox... while just below it That would either mean the Angels don't want Garcia or that they aren't willing to give up figgins... either way I'm kinda baffled by this. Considering he's saying the Angels would be willing to give up Santana for Crede, but an offer like that had already been turned down by the Angels. I think he may have his facts wrong.
  8. stupid thought....what if gay people arent offended by what ozzie said in specific, but more that he is associating marriotti with gay people?.... i know that would piss me off!
  9. i really hate this guy.... i like how he doesnt bring up at all how deadly a weapon it is to hit someone 2 times on purpose for no reason, but in retaliation of being beaned, the ball is a deadly weapon. yah know, why not critiscize someone for that stuff.... why not rant about how bad it was for escobar to hit AJ for no reason? im glad to see its ok for a manager to allow his players to get it with no message to the other team to stop. No offense, if this were the national leaugue, someone should have thrown at padilla's head had he batted.
  10. Well i think we can look at detroit being hot with a positive outlook.... They are 35-15, playing EXTREMELY well and haveing all the breaks goin their way We are 32-17, playing solid baseball but have not gotten on a steady roll yet. They are playing the hottest baseball possible.... and we are ONLY 2.5 games out in late May. We're fine right now... I'll worry when its august and we're 7 games out.
  11. Thats the point.... Garland Tailed off the second half of the year and Contreas's first half of the year wasnt so hot if you can remember correctly. He put it together the second half The point is, that my guess, is that neither of these 2 guys will finish with ERAs that low....Robertson may be able to keep his close, there is no way Maroth can. He will go through problems much like garland did last year.
  12. This Year: SP- M Maroth- DET 5 2 2.18 7 7 0 0 0 0 41.1 44 11 10 3 1 14 17 SP- N Robertson- DET 4 2 3.50 8 8 0 0 0 0 46.1 45 22 18 5 3 17 29 Career: SP- M Maroth- 45 60 4.69 128 128 3 1 0 0 789.1 890 445 411 99 27 210 385 SP- N Robertson- 24 31 4.77 88 81 3 0 1 1 492.2 527 289 261 72 16 175 342 This game is not about hitting, its about pitching..... right now, they have a few pitchers pitching WAY over their career numbers. They are a good team, but they will hit a skid like the sox did last year. Hopefully, thats when we will make our move big time and create some space between us and them! ( I dont include Bondermen because hes got ALOT of talent nor do i include the rookie or the veteran Rogers)

    Garland

im not gunna lie....i think its funny that some how john found a way to raise his ERA in this last game lol.... 6.05 to 6.75 I thought he had no where to go but down from 6.05, he proved me wrong though. I'm worried, but john is not a 5 or 6 era pitcher....so i know for a fact, it will be lower at the end of the season and that means he will have alot better games.
  14. 1 bad start is an occasion 2 bad starts is a coincidence 3 bad starts is a pattern... lets just wait for his third start to see if we should worry a little bit just cuz someone says they are worried about garland... doesnt mean they are anti-sox and jumping off a ledge but anytime a pitcher has 2 TERRIBLE starts where u give up 7+ runs, u can worry a lil bit without being told to shut up and that ur not sticking by ur players that got u a title. Im Concerned with Garland and Concerned with Pods until they imrpove...which i am confident they will. I'm not jumping on garland or anything, just saying until he improves.... garland is a concern. He needs to go out there and have a good start to get rid of the concerns. Heres to a good start jon!
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Orioles would laugh. Think about it--Orioles could have one of the premier pitchers in the game for three years in Prior; or a craptacular package of a late 30's Cuban with one year remaining on his contract, and two prospects far from can't miss. It would have been McCarthy and Cotts, if I had to guess. Only makes sense for Baltimore. I don't think they would laugh at all...the whole hamper on a deal for tejada involving the cubs was that Baltimore didnt want prior cuz of his duribility issues. They may have wanted a pitcher like contreas who has no history of arm problems as opposed to one who's had elboy tendinites and a freak accident that broke his arm. Surprisingly enough, i could have seen the sox making a deal to get prior without giving up too much. Especially since Contreas's value is alot now.
  16. Last years Numbers for three of the 4 "number 1's" G Maddux CHC 13 15 4.24 35 35 3 0 0 0 225.0 239 112 106 29 7 36 136 2. C Zambrano CHC 14 6 3.26 33 33 2 0 0 0 223.1 170 88 81 21 8 86 202 3. M Prior CHC 11 7 3.67 27 27 1 0 0 0 166.2 143 73 68 25 4 59 188 Kerry Woods Career Numbers: 1998 Chicago Cubs 13 6 3.40 26 26 1 1 0 --- 166.2 117 69 63 14 11 85 233 2000 Chicago Cubs 8 7 4.80 23 23 1 0 0 0 137.0 112 77 73 17 9 87 132 2001 Chicago Cubs 12 6 3.36 28 28 1 1 0 0 174.1 127 70 65 16 10 92 217 2002 Chicago Cubs 12 11 3.66 33 33 4 1 0 0 213.2 169 92 87 22 16 97 217 2003 Chicago Cubs 14 11 3.20 32 32 4 2 0 0 211.0 152 77 75 24 21 100 266 2004 Chicago Cubs 8 9 3.72 22 22 0 0 0 0 140.1 127 62 58 16 11 51 144 2005 Chicago Cubs 3 4 4.23 21 10 0 0 0 0 66.0 52 32 31 14 2 26 77 Point here is that a "number 1 starter" usually is slated to win 16+ games every single year....an accomplishment not done by Kerry Wood ever. Also, a number 1 starter would not have finished 2 games below .500 with an ERA ofver 4 ( in maddox's case) Now i have no case to say that Prior isnt a Number 1 WHEN HEALTHY...and Zambrano is capable as one as well....at best they have a number 1, a number 2, and three number 4's
  17. I think some of may overlook the negative Public Relations that the sox would get if they trade garland and get nothing in return... If we get top prospects the sox can say they are preparing for the future, If we get bullpen help they can say we get immediate help now....but if we get low level prospects and a crappy bullpen guy, the PR would be terrible. To some fans it would seem like we are dismantleing the pitching staff strictly for money. i would understand if KW has to save money on the payroll ...but if gets nothing in return, it could end up costing the sox alot of money too. It is important that the sox keep looking like they are making moves to win again in 2006 and in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
  18. waitwaitwait.....this is the guy who lives in LA correct?...isnt LA the city that couldnt handle a football team even though its in the top 5 of city populations???....oh and im sure hes been to chicago before...Cuz chicago is famous for nothing!....If i can recall LA's most famous for its polution and the Watts district...maybe that guy in prison has nothing better to do than listen to his crappy show, its ok though....we need alot of morons!
  19. I think sometimes u guys may forget that we werent the only team actively after thome...so Phillie did have some leveridge to pry good prospects from the sox. Im sure the rest of you guys would rather keep the two lefties who have not proven anything and allowed the Indians to pick up a great veteran who can hit 40 homeruns and lead them to a 2006 AL centrak division Championship... Oh and theres no guarentee we will sign Konerko...so without thome our middle of the lineip would be rowand- AJ- DYE...not much of a threat if u ask me!

he is just awful!!!..... :fyou this is for u KOCH!
  21. my favorite sox year was 1999...it was the year that i first became obsessed with the sox and, it was a year where things were looking up. they were young, exciting, and we knew that all they could do is get better.

  23. how are Beltre and Perez worth $5 million.... and more over... How is Gagne worth the same as these 2?
  24. i hope Rauch gets the number 5 spot....i think he deserves it. i think Grilli should be put in the bullpen, and if he does well....they can try him out iin the rotation if shoeny and the number 5 fail.
