Genuine progress
Good stuff. Looking at that same list, since the break, Sox are 6th in WOBA/9th in xWOBA. 5th in LA, 13th in barrel, 18th in hard hit. The underlying metrics are cause for optimism since the call-ups!! A lot of this can be repeated next season...we might actually have a good offense especially if Luis is still with the team and can somewhat replicate what he did his first four seasons. Patience and power plus some batting average guys sprinkled in. It's just too bad the lineup isn't more balanced. A bit of glut in the infield and at the catcher position. The corners are still kinda scary although Braden ought to be a nice addition to eventually replace Tauch. If Luis is traded, who knows what CF will have in store. Dru Baker and Jacob Burke seem like the most "ready" CFs in the system and neither guy is good. A couple of guys who could be something by 2027. Would love to get Kevin Alcantara from the Cubs somehow.

9/11 Games
8 pitch 4th inning. Pretty amazing the only run he's allowed was the homer. Got himself out of some tough situations. The stuff is there if he can actually command it.

9/11 Games
a homer and 2 BBs is not what I was hoping to see when I turned this game on. 5 walks in 2 innings. is that good?

“The 78” is Dead Part XIV, Viva La Canal's Edge!
Wise guy remark: is it landlocked if it borders water? 🧐 Also the rail is on the other side of the river. Actual remark: this area is pretty densely populated and part of her ward. I dunno who actually lives here though.

9/11 Games
what's the deal with Julks? He was moved to the 'temporarily inactive list' yesterday. Thought that might imply a call up. Or that he's dealing with some kind of personal matter. Might like to see him in MLB another time. Hope he's doing OK. Other interesting moves are Sprinkle, Appel, Fox up to Birmingham. Already discussed in the other thread. Would be so cool if Sprinkle turned a corner and is just kind of a late bloomer.

Sox offense since the All-Star break
He's better than I thought he would be. How about the month Chase is having? Batting .438/.514/.563 good for 1.077 OPS. .803 OPS since the All-Star break!

Alder Nicole Lee was very supportive of the Sox leaving her ward but thankfully changed her position. Two stadiums might be a tough sell for the current residents. Lot of traffic. Then again, I'm not sure who actually lives in the South Loop. People do apparently. I think Dowell is genuinely pretty good and pretty responsive to what her district wants. Kinda forgot the 78 was in Ward 3. This seems so unnecessary. A Rock Island station could be a nice addition at Roosevelt though. Cermak/21st would be even better.

9/11 Sox vs. Rays 1:10PM
That'll be a great series to finish things off at home. Darvish, King, Pivetta are the projected starters as it stands. Can definitely tee off on Darvish. Might take the series! Darvish has a 7.86 ERA on the road this season 🫢

Could've split that series if that ball Sosa hit in the 10th was like an inch closer.

9/11 Sox vs. Rays 1:10PM
Spoiling Cleveland's playoff hopes would be the highlight of the season for me. Yankees at their ballpark is gonna be the toughest series left.

the new "Edgar cut". try banning that, El Salvador.

Shane Smith (White Sox All Star)
Loved when he was down 3-0 against Fedducia then threw 3 straight 4 seamers that were just stared at. Dialed up the fastball from 95 to 96 to 97. The third strike was just nasty.

9/11 Sox vs. Rays 1:10PM
Agreed. Their new owner is as bad as the last one. the proof was partially in the pudding with his role as president of UChicago's board of trustees. Still, it's a good job. somebody took the Sox job, right? Amazing that Venable is coaching this team when it could've been the Mets.

this forum told me Getz was inept, why do these guys well-regarded around the league (Venable and Bannister as well) wanna work here so bad??? stockholm syndrome?

TBH, like seeing the walks and singles, that might be more sustainable than a 60 HR pace.

curtis mead a double machine. but c'mon, twice now it dies on the warning track.

that's pretty cute but I hate the term 'dog dad/dog mom'. little fido is not a substitute for a child. millennials seem to think so. I used to live in a building with this empty nester who pushed around her dog in a stroller. millennials are just leaning into that.

Vargas to 10 Day IL, Elko up
Yup, no debate here. Especially re: Sosa. I just really like the guy!!!

9/10 Sox vs. Rays 6:40PM
What a bunt, Chase!! Love these recaps, four different broadcasts dependent on the situation. MLB actually puts good work into it even for a random game nobody cares about like D Rays/Sox late in the season. Not loving the walks and hanging breaking balls smashed for home runs. But Burke has some some phenomenal stuff. He still has a chance to be really good. Don't think the same could be said about Cannon.

Vargas to 10 Day IL, Elko up
He's not eligible for Rule 5 unless I'm missing something. That was an issue a few years ago and they added him to the 40 man. I might think he still has options left and could be outrighted back to MILB without being designated for assignment. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd give the guy another year with the org, but if he needs to be DFA'd, just do it. Really like him, he's sort of grown up in the organization, learned English and did his, like, two MLB press appearances in English. Not judging players for not learning the language, but I think he tried really hard to ingratiate himself to the fans. It worked for me. I wish the Sox played him at SS, he's a good enough defender and the lack of bat becomes less of an issue. I think he still has some tools though.

9/10 Sox vs. Rays 6:40PM
Burke started? Vargas played? Ok I want to watch this game but it's 2:00am and time to go to bed. I think I might have just missed a good one. Curious about the bullpen management, looks like the entire staff pitched tonight.

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
key word is 'prospective' right? the actual key here is why are you bumping this thread lol re: Adams. Crochet "wasn't ready" either. I'm just throwing a name out there. I'm also agreeing with you that Shane is probably the guy.

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
I don't wanna s%*# talk Shane, but he was worse than Davis Martin in that series. He got the W because Flaherty is done-zo and wins are a good thing when the offense scores 7 runs, not when your starting pitcher produces a 7.20 ERA. 7.20 is not a good ERA. The crux of this post is...why now? It's about to be his turn in the rotation again, this post would've made more sense two weeks ago. Bumping this thread against the Devil Rays when YoeYoe Gomez is starting is...a curious choice. Shane might be the OD starter but there are many prospectively 'better' SPs in the organization that could start next year. I'm keeping my 0 dollar bet on Mason Adams.
