  1. I can't imagine what he would've said about Jason. The team could be on pace to win 100 games and in the midst of a close game and he'd be giving us his opinions on the collected works of Charles Baudelaire or something and what it means for Luis Robert's slugging percentage. Interesting comment though. Schriffen evidently signed a "multi-year" contract which I interpret as "three". I'd give him another year before forming a real opinion I guess. He could be a lot better if he tried to understand the sport even a little bit. I think he makes "better" points this season, but it isn't really close to other PBP guys. Other teams' PBP announcers seemingly have more knowledge on our players than Schriff does. I can't imagine he watches other teams' games. Or our minor leaguers. This guy could be hyping up Braden Montgomery a lot more, but does he even know he exists? It's a day job and not a passion. If he can't make it a passion, they should find somebody who actually loves baseball. McKnight is like that, but his voice is so bad. I mean, no offense, it sounds 'fine' if he was just some dude, but you can't expect me to listen to that guy 100+ times a year. Maybe he could write notes for Schriffen though. tl;dr: get Brooke Fletcher in the booth yesterday
  2. oh no. made things interesting though. can't just turn these games off after the second inning this season.
  3. lol the one time he thinks about taking a pitch
  4. speak for yourself. which you did. then you spoke for "everyone else" lol.
  5. How do we know we even want the guy? Why was SD so keen on giving up him up for a 'closer' (who can probably start)? Because Preller will be out of a job by the time he arrives in the MLB and it's not his problem? de Vries has incredible stats for his young age, but can we assume he has a much higher ceiling when he's, say, 25? or will he top out at AAA at age 19? Evidently he has a very 'advanced approach', but so did Colson. Compare "Player X has impressed evaluators with his ability to make advanced swing decisions for a youngster, rarely chasing pitches out of the strike zone while laying off difficult offerings and pounding the ones he should. He has focused on controlling the zone, using the entire field and making consistent hard contact early in his pro career." to "Player Y already shows an exquisite knowledge of the zone and will take his walks like he's a player many years older...and that speaks well to how he'll handle higher levels, something he continued to show with low strikeout and high walk rates. Which player is which? One of the players has a bunch of power, the other might hit for a higher average, but is at .242 for his pro career. He is 18 playing against 23-year-olds of course. Neither one projected/projects as a great defensive shortstop. Something tells me the Athletics organization didn't do much scouting beyond looking at what scouts have already written and compiled into the Pipeline/BBA top 100/etc. I dunno, I thought we got a really good package for Crochet. Montgomery will be the best player in the trade and we also got a couple other guys who are clearly MLB caliber. Three (or four, jury's out on Willkommen) every day players vs an 18-year-old who is advanced for his age. Maybe higher reward to go for the young guy, but I can't be mad about the decision (if there even was a decision to be made...maybe SD doesn't want to re-sign Crochet and prefers a controllable flamethrower who can probably follow the same path Crochet did to starting). I think it was the right idea to go for 'older' players. Also think it's interesting that Pipeline seems more bullish on 18,19-year-olds in their prospect rankings this most recent update. Is Konnor Griffin actually the #1 prospect? I wanted to draft him, but I think generally they wait until more than 400 ABs before being so aggressive on the rankings. There are 4 18/19-year-olds in the top 10. I looked at Pipeline rankings since 2020, and the youngest player in the top 10 was 20 at the time. Most of these guys were 22 or 23. Seems to be the case that players are debuting younger and probably have better professional training in their teens than they did a decade ago. But will they be 'better' in their MLB years?
  6. lul, Bazardo is hanging all of his 'breaking' pitches, but his sinker breaks the opposite direction and is just nasty. I'd only throw that pitch. Brooks should've crushed those first 2 pitches, then gets out on an actual good pitch. back to back, duh. I guess Sosa hit the fastball. time to unload on this dude
  7. it's funny you say this, because I was watching some games and I thought it was so goofy that these 12-year-olds are trying to (unsuccessfully) trick the umpires. Are their coaches teaching them this? the only good thing imo about ABS is that 'framing' will go away.
  8. they have a really good team. their pitching has been good for a couple years but their offense was going bonkers before adding two very good hitters. I think they could come out of the AL.
  9. What else am I doing tho....Sox comeback incoming.
  10. I thought this would be a good series to sit out. Good choice.
  11. Yeah who knows. I just wonder why he would go from the worst hitter in the league to immediately being very good. Did it just finally 'take hold'? Maybe. I would think any player would want to earn $10 million compared to zero dollars though. Unless they don't realize how bad the situation is...who knows what goes on in his head, but he was really fuckin bad and now he's pretty good.
  12. What if being traded was just a wake-up call? I thought it was interesting how, last season, Vaughn was being marketed as a 'fan favorite' kind of guy...then a few weeks into this season, he says something like, "I'm struggling but I'm going to keep doing what I've always done because it's always worked". I think he thought he was just punching a clock and there were never going to be consequences for his 'disappointing' play. That the front office and fans liked him a lot. So maybe now he's breaking out in Milwaukee because he's (correctly) thinking to himself, "I need to play better otherwise I won't be in the MLB much longer". Definitely think he's on a hot streak, he's not a 1.000 OPS player, but that he's also a better player than he showed during his time here. Maybe the Brewers are doing something different with him, but maybe he's just willing to do anything different at this stage of his career. In terms of his walks, the White Sox are much better at this aspect of the game than they were last year. They're actually one of the best teams in the league this season at it compared to last year when they were dead last. Even Lu, who hasn't taken a walk in about three months, is about double his career rate coming into the season (5.6% vs 10%). Meanwhile Vaughn halved his walk rate as a Sox this season and is doubling it up in Milwaukee. This season averages out to 6.1% while is slightly lower than his career rate. So why did the Sox as a team get better (individually and holistically) at taking walks except Vaughn who got worse? I think it implies he wasn't listening to the coaches' instruction and now that he's been traded and potentially non-tendered, he's willing to listen. I think he's a good fit to have his contract picked up in Milwaukee with his play there. I think you'd rather have Vaughnie at ~10mil than Rhys Hoskins for $18mil if he can even OPS at his typical .730. Hope he can continue his play and I'm also glad he's not on our team anymore. Meadzy seazon approaching...
  13. I'm gonna listen to it when I get a chance, I just like trash-talking Hahn. 😃 It's very likely I'm just jealous of Rick because his first name kinda sounds like mine and it's just a reminder that they gave that nerd the GM job instead of to me; but realistically I think you have to have played at least college baseball (or softball) to be the 'general manager'. Hahn was very good at contracts. Kin Ng is very good at statistical analysis. But having been a part of the 'club' seems to be an important factor in any sport. I do think the braintrust at SoxTalk or at any sports forum would be a better 'front office' than most of them.
  14. personally I don't understand why he's doing media appearances and why he's on TV now. this is the least charismatic man I've ever heard of. I have the urge to give someone a wedgie just by opening this thread.
  15. in my view, they were dead on arrival. Fenway and Wrigley are actual cool places because they're genuine historical landmarks that speak to the history of our country and favorite sport. Baltimore's stadium is just an ode to nostalgia, 'the good ol days' that never existed, a piece of architecture that has no definitive place in time or space. Nothing about the game experience itself is 'retro'. It's expensive and they're shoving every advertisement they can of think down your throat. If it was really 'retro', there wouldn't be fucking ads and luxury boxes everywhere. New era of consumerism and corporate profiteering is very much derived from nostalgia. I think it's because we realize the world is not so good these days but all we know how to do is buy stuff and have no ability to imagine a better future. I'll give the 'retro' ballparks credit in the sense that they're actually parks and not multi-function blob stadiums, the only cool one in history being the AstroDome. But New Comiskey is a dedicated ballpark and I think it's a great stadium. I hate the sea of parking lots, but I've heard many of the residents of the area prefer it that way, that the ballpark is physically separated from the housing. In terms of 'futuristic' ballparks, I think there are ways you can make them 'environmentally-friendly' or even into a bird sanctuary. There are a lot of cool architectural innovations these days, the 1920s was not the pinnacle of architecture. Hell, go full retro and just rebuild the Colosseum.
  16. mcbain voice: that's the joke. if there was a white sox fanbase, james fegan would be a billionaire and own the team. the white sox fanbase is like 30 people on soxtalk and those two people who got married at the game and did a little dance. highlight of the season btw
  17. "I'm a racist but I'm too much of a coward to just say it". why don't you just say what you're thinking, sox guy. you literally did, but you danced around the idea like a little passive aggressive b****. are you a little b****, sox guy?
  18. Nonsensical. I've seen a couple of these lists and they are entirely meaningless. I compare the Sox to the Cubs and the Cubs are performing 'better' than the Sox on these dumbass listicles, meanwhile Cubs fans are irate that their team didn't do jack and at least we did....something. The "Athletic" aka NYT sports section is a fuckin rag. I think they're trolling White Sox fans for the page views, but it's not even a large fanbase. I think these guys are just dumb and bad at their jobs.
  19. I knew the game started, and I was busy and had it on in the background, then I checked in like “the Sox are up 1 zip, let’s see if we can hold it”…then the game was over. I thought it was, like, the 4th inning. Welp. Take the win. Nice showing from Civale.
  20. I thought this game just started. Obviously the game didn’t start at 11:00pm I turned it on like “hey the Sox are up” and then the game was over. I’ll take it.
  21. cool, thanks. I looked at his MILB profile on my phone and it said his last game was 7/13....which was either wrong or I'm illiterate. probably the latter. a double and three walks 👀
  22. Doesn’t look like Mead has been assigned to the active or even 40-man roster yet. Is that normal? I don’t know if it’s just delayed, but Julks has been purportedly assigned to Chicago since the trade (not for houser but the lost in space guy who I didn’t even realize was on the team).
