Bob has looked OK since coming back. The homer helps, but he's .300+ average plus a couple walks. Looks like he's hitting the ball hard.

I'm wondering if it's worth it to pay all the third-party concessions/security employees to show up though. I wonder if they get paid for their whole shift. -

yeah if they weren't gonna start the game on time before the rain, they should've just postponed it immediately. sucks for all 30 of the fans who showed up. -

Josh Naylor specifically kills the Sox. He's had 208 plate appearances against us, more than he has against any other team, and his OPS in those games is .979, 20 doubles, 9 homers, .347/ .388/ .591. Pretty nuts. Think it's funny that Cleveland swapped out Naylor for Santana, they're both paid the same amount, meanwhile Naylor is at 127 OPS+ in AZ and grandpa Santana is at 91. I think Cleveland could use the bat. Santana seems like a nice guy and Naylor seems like just somebody, but I think if you're paying a first baseman/DH that much money, you probably prefer he could hit rather than give a good peptalk. -

that's what it looks like, then there's a bunch more 'red' right behind it. I think we're in for a pretty good storm. -

No precipitation to speak of 3 miles away but the radar suggests it's going to open up any time now. If they're delaying this game already, hard to think they'll actually play it. -
Love to hear that!

Why is it pathetic to think fondly about some past event in your life that you enjoyed and that countless other people from your hometown also enjoyed? I think it's pathetic when the Bulls/Sox keep trying to sell us all this 'glory days' merch 20, 30 years later to be sure when both teams are garbage, it seems tonedeaf, but of course we buy it because nostalgia is a powerful force. Is it "living in the past" to read a book about the 2005 team? Or is it just interesting and a fun hobby? I think it's pathetic when the organization does it, but reasonable and natural that regular people are into it, the org is simply taking advantage of this very human instinct to retain a memory about things that are culturally important. It's funny when it doesn't work though. Remember than Bulls 'Ring of Honor' clownshow in January 2024? Some nostalgic circlejerk about how great the Bulls were 30 years ago, then they brought out Jerry Krause's widow and the fans at the UC booed her and she started to cry. It was pretty unfortunate and all the media people raked Chicago fans over the coals, but how could the Bulls organization have expected anything different? The nostalgia cuts both ways, doesn't it, and nobody likes Krause or remembers him fondly; and the organization should've been been smarter about what might've happened before they humiliated that woman. Definitely an interesting moment where it wasn't all 'rosy' and 'fond memories', but nonetheless a compelling situation because people react pretty viscerally to sports and their memory of it. Should we care that much? I dunno, probably not, but we seem to and I think we all have a biased feeling on it if we're posting on a sports forum. I think it's pretty cool that we remember this stuff, frankly, and the public responses are sometimes interesting. The Cubs World Series victory is a pretty memorable moment to me too, and I really dislike the team! On the merch, I think they should do a promo for the 83, 'winnin' ugly' team. Before my time, but what a cool team, and the merch is incredible. I want to wear this shirt but not pay $90 for it on ebay. Best uniforms too and it seems like they're wearing them less lately.

I think Tucker and Ha-Seong Kim are the only players worth looking at for multiyear contracts. Maybe one of the pitchers, ie Bieber, on a 1/1 'prove it' sorta deal. Maybe you look at Bellinger as a guy who can actually play CF post-Robert. Pass on Bo Bichette. I feel like he is the player you would get if you combined Tim Anderson and Andrew Benintendi into one player somehow. Tim the 30+ player, Benny the 30+ terrible contract. Or maybe just an older, less-disciplined version of Chase Meidroth. The guy couldn't play defense when he was young, will be he able to do it in his 30s? Is he a good hitter if he's not hitting at .355 BABIP? Maybe we have too many infielders as is, but can you really trust them, and I think Kim is just a good player who will probably be paid a reasonable amount if he declines his (also reasonable) player option. Or maybe he's injured the entire time and can't play defense anymore, but his stats seem 'trustworthy' to me, like it's a performance that could be repeated for several more years, 4-5 WAR mostly with the glove...a cheaper version of Dansby Swanson but probably better at baseball. He's back from injury and has looked good in three games, so maybe he plays himself out of the Sox price range. I wouldn't break the bank for Kim whereas I think the Sox should really try to pursue Tucker...doubtful they will, but he'd be a perfect fit on the team and at the park. I don't know why that guy never got more hype, his statistics and career trajectory are eerily similar to Bryce Harper.

Funny this one got rained out. Checks out. I went outside to take a phone call and walk around the block during the 6th inning, there's a nice drizzle going on, it feels good because of how hot it's been and I'm still dripping sweat from my walk home and I figured I'd watch the game before taking a shower. Then I get to Taylor Street and the heavens open up and I start wondering "is this going on at SoxPark? it didn't the last time". Moral of the story is I got soaked and the Sox lost. Massive L. Rojas hit a homer though????? He's been reading SoxTalk. -

I don't think I'm missing "a ton of vets", I went through all the transactions since Getz was hired and it's possible I missed someone during this 2 minute analysis. I hit submit too early, but noted I'm not considering minor league contracts who play too much. It's hard to call that lighting money on fire. I generally agree with what you're saying, especially about hitters, especially especially about Rojas and Maldonado which were really fuckin' dumb signings any way you slice it. I just think if they're gonna sign an actual hitter in the offseason, it would have to be for a lot of money that JR is evidently not willing to spend at the moment. Pitchers are very up and down and it's hard to tell sometimes which one is actually any good. Hitters I think are easier to scout and so the good ones get paid. With pitchers, I think organizations can 'unlock' them better than hitters if they have the physical tools and the brainpower. Maybe that's wrong and I'm just too used to watching the White Sox... But also, I'm personally not so interested in signing hitters in free agency unless it's, like, the Bryce Harper, Juan Soto tier of players or an international player. Would rather we develop our own guys, seems like a more sustainable strategy unless you're the Yankees or Dodgers and can carry a terrible contract or three and still be players in free agency. Are we doing that, developing hitters? Is Fuller making an impact? It's hard to say. My 'personal feeling' (no data) is yes...sort of. There was that meme about the 'swing decisions' a few months ago, but our Sox definitely take a ton of walks relative to last season. I don't know what the statistics are throughout the minor league system, but I wonder if Colson would've flamed out under Hahn and Kenny's leadership. These guys like Sosa, Vargas, Brooks have taken a step forward, but maybe they would have regardless. I do think it's interesting that the Orioles forgot how to hit and the White Sox are 'pretty good' in at least one offensive category now (BBs). -

I was curious about this, so here's a list of all the MLB contracts Getz has signed players to during his tenure, organized generically into 'good' or 'bad' signings (according to me). The categories could probably be more targeted, ie the Maldonado tier, the Fedde tier, the Slater tier and the Tim Hill tier (Clev is in a tier of his own...I'm adding it). I think it's a complete list, let me know if I'm missing anyone. Not including minor league contract players who are potentially 'blocking' a younger, better player. Good Houser, Altavilla, Martin Perez, Fedde, DeJong, Tauchman, Tyler Alexander, Michael A Taylor, Flexen Bad Rojas, Bryse Wilson, Tim Hill, Brebbia, Maldonado, Pillar Ugly Clevinger. the guy just looks like s%*# regardless of his personality. -
I’d love it if they come up with a new bit. They only do one bit. I think we know why they’re calling it “America’s team”. I’m a Chicagoan thus I like homoerotic performances, it’s just like, come up with a new idea, bros

Manny just collected his 2,000th career hit. Farm Boy Sheets struck out right after on a pitch in the dirt. I debated putting this in the old Sox thread. -
I think this is only in your imagination. He isn’t lolligagging. I’m not sure he’s even had an opportunity to lolligag, ie beating out an infield hit. He does look really fuckin slow though getting started, like a freight train. he’s busting his ass at short, man. That’s something more to look at, I think. His offense has been pristine so far if you ask me. He’s super impressed me beyond my expectations, and I’m a homer.
-
Giolito maybe? Think it was that season. I’ll look when I’m in front of a computer if I or anyone else even cares at that point lol. Burke is a reliever I think. I wanna see McDougal this year.

Can’t recall who we were trading him for. Maybe Fedde. Toronto traded kikuchi for him. if it was even him. Hard hitting second baseman (who can’t play 2nd) who was old for his level but killing it. I could’ve imagined this whole scenario

Had a feeling.

Loperfido…didn’t we want to trade for that guy when he was in Houston?
