  1. Sox are 16-17 at home, 6-26 away. Why?
  2. I'm not being serious? I thought your smartass responses were genuinely funny, but I'm clearly writing thoughtful posts on this matter. You don't agree, which is fine, but you're also a jerk to anyone you disagree with. Everyone else is being respectful. Unbecoming behavior of an administrator, I think. Set an example, be above the fray. I think you should be kinder to people and I'm probably not going to reply to your posts anymore, they are never polite. I'm not "crapping" on people by having a different point of view, it's called a discussion. My point of view is that we should thoughtfully consider what might become of the Chicago White Sox in light of this inevitable ownership change. It shouldn't be considered good news, it's simply news. I don't know why you think Jerry Reinsdorf is specifically more evil than any other rich idiot, but I think after his death, his kids have an interest in keeping the Sox in town only insofar as it affects the Bulls and their reputation. I frankly care more about the team being the "Chicago" White Sox than I do about their record. I literally wouldn't be a fan anymore, and I make this point because, simply, "why wouldn't he move the team?" at this point, it seems like the only way they stay put is if a new stadium gets built, and I think for non-baseball reasons they shouldn't build a new park. I'm also thinking emotionally on this like everyone else, I don't have a right to "jump into the discussion" and share my feelings? You're a dick, dude.
  3. what do I know, I'm not an Egyptologist. it was mostly a joke. that's actually good to know. I'd be curious though, why wouldn't they use slaves and what is the evidence?
  4. yes. perhaps Montreal. I might still like the team if they move there.
  5. I just wanted to point out that your two responses have been awesome
  6. yeah, and they haven't built anything in 50 years! it's not a good site! plant some trees, extend out the park! re the pyramids: yes. children figure out that if you stack one block on top of two, their tower won't collapse. wild things happen when you add a third block to that bottom row. it is literally common sense. the Pyramids were built by common sense, a well-funded monarchy and slave labor. I like to think about 'professions' in the classical world compared to now, 'civil engineering' as such is a modern innovation and a fascinating, helpful one. You can probably find antecedents for sure, some guy did some math to help him build his house, but it's not like people are being trained in this as a profession.
  7. Wonderful, what have they done in the last 20 years? You see the trend, right? Meanwhile the Bulls lead the NBA in attendance every year while putting out an even worse product (in my opinion, I don't watch them anymore). There's a $7billion building project going on around the UC, it's a happening place. Is 35th and Shields a happening place? I think it could be but it's predicated on the Sox staying put. Everything you wrote is exactly the same with Oakland. The point is: fans won't show up when they're bad and that's a problem. Fans from around the world show up at Wrigley for a multitude of reasons, when people think of Chicago baseball, they think of the Cubs. Meanwhile they think they'll get shot if they go south of Cermak. I guess you might at a Sox game. You just get your car stolen in Lakeview. I just don't think this is good news. It's certainly expected and it'll be a long time before anything happens, but I think we need to think seriously that this guy is more likely to move the team than the Reinsdorf brats would be. We need to advocate for our team!
  8. Bay Area couldn't handle two teams, why should a dying Rustbelt city like Chicago? Do you guys realize that nobody likes the Sox except the people on this forum and, well now, maybe, all of Christendom? But I don't think Italians and Filipinos care if the team is in Bridgeport or Nashville. There are a lot of analogies to draw between Oakland the South Side and the baseball team is the relevant one. "Trust the devil you know" is my only point. If it's genuinely more profitable to move the team, the guy is gonna do it and the fact that he has a house here means literally nothing. I hope you're right but I don't think you are. I'd hate to lose the Sox.
  9. people generally like me, thanks Tony. I guess when I go to parties, we don't talk about the various billionaires we like and dislike. I think people do that though.
  10. Thanks. I figured they were the same guy. That's meaningful.
  11. well, the home means literally nothing and, while the market means slightly more, you know the Cubs play here right? And people prefer them generally? And there are a lot of cities, ie Nashville, where people watch sports on TV and look at advertisements and have available land for an arena. Also the guy is just bad at sports management. He bought the Suns when they were a title contender and took them back into mediocrity. The grass is not always greener, it's one idiot or another, and this guy has a track record in sports.
  12. one rich idiot or another. they're all the same, Sox fans. I'd trust the mortgage con artist less than the tax fraudster, frankly.
  13. That’s kinda my point, they left the logo alone and did the ‘pride’ thing as some tasteful banding. Most of the time, they just do the rainbow thing over the logo, like the Sox did in previous years. Better looking hat compared to previous imo, wearable. also just gotta give my unpopular opinion that the design isn’t that iconic. It’s my least favorite Sox hat and seems like a copy of the raiders brand lol
  14. the rain delay ended? LOL. this is like the first game of the series, I get home thinking the game hasn't started and we're already down 5-0. I don't think I'm watching this one.
  15. I like our hat this year, at least. Prefer the band to just making the logo the rainbow, it's a nice embellishment and a little more creative. I wonder if the players would ever wear the hat, maybe the Boystown Cubs do.
  16. Yeah it's concerning to me how bad the minor league pitching is. Obviously there are a lot of injuries, but basically every healthy pitcher has taken a step back in some way or their health concerns have manifested and turned them into relievers. Nasty Nick almost looked like a MLB starter, now his ERA is like 8 at Charlotte. I thought Schweitzer was gonna have a big season, guess not. Surprised we haven't seen Karinchak yet. His stats look pretty good (besides 7BB/9, but he was doing than in MLB too) and he has a track record of being a good MLB reliever before the injury. I haven't watched him in a Sox uniform, maybe his velocity fell off a cliff, his K% this year is lower than it ever was in MLB, but I think I would've preferred him over spending international bonus $ on Castro. Castro, Altavilla, Karinchak all basically seem like the same player to me. Pretty decent AAAA depth in consideration of all the injuries, just see no value in giving up an asset for a player like that, even a minor one. How do we account for this though: Charlotte by far leads the International League in walks issued. Birmingham is tied for first in their league. The Dash and Cannon Ballers are marginally better at 3rd and 6th, but I think it's concerning that it's such an issue at the upper levels.
  17. I promise you don't need to be a civil engineer to comprehend this. The developers aren't engineers, the financiers aren't engineers, the construction workers aren't. You might be amazed to know that human beings built structures in generally smart places before the field existed. The guy kinda just said common sense things. What are you disputing? I'd also note that that it's a brownfield and the remediation can be costly. The A's definitely didn't want to do environmental remediation on that Howard Brown Terminal site (a far better location for a ballpark than the 78). The site is clearly cursed and you have one liar after another (probably different aspects of the same liar, Related Morons) telling us for the last 50 years that something wonderful is coming there. It's never gonna happen. Plant some trees and be done with it. Just south is a really great park, they ought to extend it A process that would be (relatively) inexpensive, ecologically productive, generally good for surrounding property values. Everybody wins except the Related Companies. Cermak to Polk has a really nice (east bank) riverfront already, I think they ought to plan the area for families, a consistent tax base, rather than for people from outside the city to come in for the day, clog up the roads, then drunk drive home. Particularly when we already have a place like that (SoxPark) and it's perfectly fine, inarguably better situated for regional access. Any governmental official calling for a new ballpark, even if it's entirely privately funded, is a bozo who is contradicting stated Illinois/Chicago policy goals. Disinvesting from the south and west sides is only going to create further problems for everyone in the city. They've "transformed" the Loop over the last decade into a neighborhood with bars, restaurants, expensive condos and now I never want to be in the Loop, particularly after the sun has set. Someone is making some money off these ventures, I'm dubious that it's the City. Giving real estate developers carte blanche to produce urban form and develop the city further toward consumption and waste should not be the governmental perspective. And if you're going to develop a 'megaproject' like this 78 abomination, there absolutely needs to be democratic oversight extending beyond the aldermanic level.
  18. I didn't watch his start, was he clearly out there pitching injured? or is the commentary because he skipped that start last week for the same problem? I dunno what "lower back tightness" means regarding baseball, but I'd speculate it isn't like "elbow inflammation", ie the precursor to a more serious injury. Maybe he needs 2 weeks off to get right and we're not a competitive team regardless, but is there any evidence to indicate his manager, coaches, trainers are destroying his career? If the guy says he's fine regarding what is probably a strained muscle, what are you really gonna do about it? My completely uninformed medical opinion is that you either play through it or rest it for a couple of weeks. I can't imagine this guy is getting surgery or missing time. My question is: was there anybody already on the 40man to take his spot? I guess Freeman already was. Also Elko's back...Sosa got hurt?!
  19. They have a worse offense than we do! I’ve said before, I think, this royals team cannot be sustained despite Bobby’s greatness. New George Brett. I like our shot at a World Series compared to them, frankly. I like the Tigers best of all.
  20. Good thread. To me, Cagz or Wetherholt or Braden or (high schooler) Griffin was the pick for us. It seemed unimagined to take another lefty pitcher with an awkward delivery. The org seems to do well with those guys, and Hagan fits the mold, so let’s wait and see with him. But Jac was clearly not a Vaughn clone, and seemingly the best player available to us. I hope he kills it with the Royals. I think our Smith is gonna be good too, despite his walks, but those two positions players (sans Braden who we got) seem like they will be quite good. I like wetherholt particularly, seems like his injury concerns are a paper tiger.
  21. That feels like a wild thing to say. Hilarious, unexpected, but wild. I love it but also…Dusty Baker, right? Was Sosa on those cubs?
  22. The guy might be good, he might not be, but they seem to have made some contingency plans. I hope he’s good. He seems like a nice guy with good tools that tend to project well. Possibly Keith Law is right about him and how his back got broked out and he’s done-zo. That seems like the logical perspective, but did anyone consider he has an 80 grade spirit? I think if the Sox, say, pursued Adames or Bregman during the offseason, we’d, one, probably like the fact that the Sox are spending on free agents, but two, wondering about why they are blocking top prospects by signing these guys. Might prefer to sign someone like Rojas to “keep the spot warm” when your ostensible best prospect is a “short stop” who is realistically a 3B. I suspect we won’t be thinking about Josh Rojas a year from now. I’ll be thinking about him because he seems like a cool dude who was happy to be “mic’d up”, but maybe not so good at baseball. I’ll wait a certain amount of time for Colson (longer than a year anyway), but might as well have some faith in these minor leaguers. Colson is persona non grata around the league these days, time for his rejuvenation.
