  1. is the hitting coach actually doing something? "hardest hit ball" of Maton's career supposedly. someone else on this board was speculating that the launch angles look better. certainly the last hitting guy is on record saying "we don't do anything unless the player asks us to" so maybe just doing something is better than nothing.
  2. are they brothers? they are brothers. the varlands.
  3. Through 5, no runs...Where have I heard this before?
  4. Lenyn is gonna be the Jake Burger of 2025 minus being traded, hopefully.
  5. it's either pseudo or it's against the rules. i'm going with the former. remember corked bats? that was a "clear advantage" until it clearly didn't do anything.
  6. yeah I'm thinking "god dang, he's firing it in there" and the secondary stuff looks good. nice locations on the pitches. 5 more scoreless, bud!
  7. he had correa fooled that entire at bat. crazy stuff
  8. kudos to the grounds crew. it's hard work in bad conditions and they do a great job. we joke about "second winter" but the weather conditions have been wild lately. dumb and disrespectful story.
  9. will a sox starter give up a run this season? 23 innings without an earned run.
  10. Baldwin can be on the roster, but he shouldn't be playing over Sosa. "He's not good in a small sample size" is kind of beside the point, you can make the same arguments for any of his alternatives. You said the alternative was some old guy.
  11. walk scored to Zeferjahn. Restarting on a 3-2 count is very funny
  12. I'm talking about Trout but I do think it's funny that YoYo is the only one driving in runs
  13. Sox pitchers are making a fool out of one of the best players of all time
  14. Martin rocks. This staff is so good. And it's only gonna get better
  15. through 17 IP, Sox starters have given up 0 earned runs! on the other hand, this lineup is dreadful. get colson and teel up here yesterday.
  16. Everybody knows athleticism is overrated…in baseball and every other sport. You must reach a certain threshold of 99th percentile athleticism sure, which every player pretty much does, but after that point, then you actually need a brain to be good and stick around. I’ve had this thought in my head after watching a little league game and seeing the smallest kid on the field hitting bombs. Maybe that kid just knew how to swing a bat and maybe there’s something about “natural” wrist strength. I don’t know anything about that, but baseball is in part a fun sport because, a lot of the time, the best players just look like a regular guy. Judge and Ohtani are clearly athletic specimens, but the brainpower separates them from the Eloys of the world. I don’t mean it as a slight against Eloy, but it clearly is, and he just strikes me as a simple person. Superstar body, role player mind. Then look at mookie Betts. You wouldn’t see him on the street and think “dang, that guy is clearly a pro athlete — maybe a pro bowler”. Balding, short dude with a paunch. And yet he’s one of the best players in the league. point being, stop signing bodies and sign minds. Probably more relevant for international scouting.
  17. Mlb season is off to a wonderful start. Had some cool opening day moments, my favorite being Kam Misner’s (TBR) first MLB at bat being a walk off homer. What a cool moment. followed up by judge hitting 3 homers in a 9 homer game. Wind conditions weren’t even bad, I checked the Bronx weather station compared to the Bridgeport one, and it wasn’t even windy in New York. Hate to see Bearded Bleach Blonde B(Nestor) give up 5 homers and 5 walks in 2 innings, but what a hitting clinic. good season ahead, friends. Even optimistic about the Sox. The pitching is already excellent.
