That's so cool. You love to see it. He got a MAJOR standing ovation today. As he should, he's been a workhorse this year. I appreciate what he's done throughout a horrific season, and it was cool to see him go 6.1 scoreless. I was hoping to see Crochet for the last home game, but Flexen was actually nasty. Made a couple guys look foolish. I want to look at the replay though because I feel like the umpire was calling everything inside to RHB a strike, everything outside to a LHB a strike. I thought it might've been my vantage point, but then I started to see batters get disgusted by that specific call. Great way to end it for him. I was surprised they brought him out for the 7th, despite a strong performance. so it's neat to see this post and get a better understanding of why they might've done it. I think it's a cool thing to do, it ain't my money, but he also looked good enough to go out there for the 7th. more than anything, I was surprised when they pulled him after kind of a flub hit, but I was also pretty focused on the fight going on in my section. More on that in a moment. I went to this game expecting it to be a madhouse of bitter, unemployed people, but the atmosphere was genuinely the nicest Sox game I've been to in years. Everyone was in a good mood. I think beer was cheaper than normal, yet the drunks were limited (besides me, but I just talk to myself). I sat behind the third base dugout for ten bucks. Some kid and his mom kept trying to get the wave going the entire game. It picked up some steam toward the end, but I don't think you could call it a legitimate wave. It spanned one, maybe one and a half sections. Naturally, it's not a Sox game if someone isn't getting into a fight or getting shot (my past four ballgame experiences). Today, Bridgeport Bob got into it with Beverly Billy. Which was amusing. "You can't say that about my brother!!!" or something. They looked exactly the same. Well, everyone involved on all sides looked the same. The entire crew of guys getting into it looked like they could be related or even clones. All ginger beards. All fat. All wearing St Paddys Day Sox jerseys. Unique looking dudes. Actually, one of the opposing belligerent's beards was turning grey. Maybe he was their uncle. What was particularly amusing to me was that fans were cheering for them being kicked out during the Flexen 7th inning mound visit, then it turned into an ovation for Flexen after being pulled. Fun day to play hooky and I'm glad I went to at least one Sox game this year. I actually haven't seen them win in person since, truly, I think 2005.

Stone not sure he will be back in 25, season "wearing on him"

Seems like the Tigers have an opening, what with their regular guy being a predator. I personally would find that hilarious. Not the predation, but Stone and Benetti working together again. -
Happy (possible) 121 Day...How are you celebrating?

thought about attending, I'm thinking that rain will make the (correct) decision for me. A double header tomorrow would be a truly horrific experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. -
Kuhl DFA, Soroka activated, Leasure to AAA
nrockway replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think he's worth the $3million he earned this year. I think he's probably worth a minimum contract, but I would like to see him remain on the team. He's pretty good. Kind of like a better version of Jesse Scholtens, another player I like. I sort of think he could "break out" again, but if he doesn't, he's still a serviceable ball player. I'm not sure what you pay for that or if other teams value Soroka on anything more than a minor league contract, but I wouldn't mind if he stuck around, if only to bounce between AAA and MLB. -

I seem to recall some player the Sox DFA’d that is better than Chad cool. Which is a very cool name by the way. By the way, why is the name “Chad” considered to be so kuhl? Where’d that come from? I have a cousin Chad who I love dearly but I don’t think society would describe his as “a Chad”. i digress but I don’t really care. I still think soroka is kinda good. I hope we are able to retain him for nothing. -
You and me, for instance.

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
nrockway replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think we all agree that we like talking (writing) about the Sox. I think it’s a miracle of the modern world, that we all know how to read and write, we possess the gift of literacy, yet we waste it writing about the worst baseball team ever instead of anything worthwhile. Personally I checked out of the season around the all star break. But planning to go to one of these last home games. I have to go to at least one game this year, right? -

My typical interactions are telling Cubs fans they’re not making the playoffs either. At least people are talking about the Sox. -
This is essentially a compilation of semi-literate Soxtalk takes. I don’t think that qualifies as journalism, frankly. Yeah we suck and the fans are unhappy. Riveting.

I care in the sense that he managed the White Sox, and so I might read his random musings over, I dunno, any other random person. Frankly I like what he has to say and the way he speaks…he does seem like a nice, genuine guy. However, this article seems to suggest that Pedro should have another job in the MLB. No way, he brings nothing to the table. He should coach youth sports, perhaps. He seems like he’d be a good role model. Professional baseball players don’t need a role model though. Or maybe some do, but they ought to grow up.

“ska revival isn’t cool you stupid f***” I’m not calling you a stupid f***, I’m merely suggesting that your excellent idea would work better without a trumpet, perhaps a punk band. My brother played the trumpet growing up and he was really bad at it. I would die happy if I never heard a trumpet ever again. This thread rocks btw. Peak Sox talk content.

Skip Schumaker — Sox 1st choice at manager
nrockway replied to WhiteSox2023's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Does he want to live in Chicago and get paid a bunch of money? What other gigs are available besides the one he's vacating? Seattle? I'm not sure that franchise is in any better position re: ownership or frankly re: players. -
He's pitched 16.1 innings with the Dodgers and pitched 376 with the Sox. Do you really think he's any different? All it took was a week of a new coach? That was the difference between Kopech being a bust with the Sox, a former top prospect who crumbled for reasons we know all too well, and the best reliever in the game with the Dodgers? Some guy in LA making a couple good points? If it was so straightforward, couldn't he have done that earlier and potentially earned himself a lot more money? Maybe he'd even still be starting, right. Or could it simply be that it's not a very large sample size and variance in pitchers' performance is incredibly high? The "Lol Sox" narrative sort of overrides common sense. I would expect fans who follow the team closely over several years to know better than journalists who want to ride some popular narrative for the sake of their careers (dodgers good, sox bad, best of both worlds. double the ppc revenue). I'm glad Kopech is pitching well and I hope it lasts, I hope he becomes great. It's just a silly narrative to think after the fact that he had all this value. Personally I thought at the start of the season we could've gotten Jonathan India for him. That seemed like a reasonable trade for both teams. Or a player like that. Maybe Vargas is a player like that (neither are very good). Maybe Kopech returns to normal and he's not suddenly a pitcher who doesn't walk anybody or give up any home runs. Maybe it doesn't happen in the postseason the same way it did with Lynn. I'm gonna take the career averages on this one, frankly.

Defense was incredible in the second half. Caleb looked....whatever, it's his first game. I thought Benetti was commentating this game then I realized it was Amin. I always confuse the two. They don't even sound alike, I just think they're both shills. ez win today for the Sox. the sort of win that strikes fear in the heart of Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees. Pulling a game out late....do we think we've finally turned the corner? have Grady'z Boyz been mathematically eliminated from the postseason?
