That lineup looks pretty damn good outside of the #9 spot. Hopefully, Romo is coming around based on his last two games.

The 2000 lineup was money. The pitching, not so much. The Charles Johnson trade was amazing. I checked Baseball-Reference and here was his line with the Sox in the second half: .326 .411 .607 1.019 He also hit 10 homers with 36 RBI in only 158 plate appearances. Insane. One of my favorite acquisitions of all time. Probably one of the best Sox trades of all time for a playoff rental player. It only cost them catcher Brook Fordyce. But they unfortunately didn’t acquire any pitching. That was a brutal playoff series to watch against the Seamen. The bats went completely cold for that series.

The real thing sucks. This just makes that phrase all the more disturbing.

It’s pretty sad. The Rockies basically wanted to dump Doyle because they know him better than anyone and that he couldn’t hit at Coors or anywhere else for that matter for the past two seasons. They needed to make room for their better younger outfielders. Meanwhile, they get a starter that could be in their rotation right now and an interesting young prospect. Getz overpaid.

They found Narcan at the scene so it is now suspected to be a possible overdose. Yeah, he was a DV abuser, and also abused drugs and alcohol. Sounds like they both did the latter.

It’s likely not going to turn out well. If Doyle doesn’t figure out how to hit again, he could be in non-tender territory after next season.

As much as the Cubs and their ownership get crap for being cheap and never truly “going for it”, their front office identified their extreme need for starting pitching due to injuries and lack of performance better than Getz did and they acquired four starters prior to the deadline. Peterson Civale (being used in bullpen but was starting for A’s) Gausman Holmes Getz needed two starters at a minimum and only acquired one. They didn’t really need a CF that swings a wet newspaper.

I don’t know if people are predicting a collapse but it’s obvious they don’t have enough pitching. That doesn’t mean they still can’t limp into the postseason somehow.
