  1. Yep, and when Stone Pony isn’t being a dick to and trolling his partner, he is being the ultimate company man. As big of a homer Hawk was, he would still get upset about stupid plays and call out dumb baseball. The Legend hasn’t called out a team since the 2004 Cubs. He learned to fall in line after losing that gig for his comments and has become the ultimate company man with the Sox under Jerry.
  2. I was just kidding, since I remember how big of a fan fathom was of Maldonado.
  3. Wow. The same guy that is hitting .241 with a .603 OPS and that no other team wanted to trade for as a backup utility infielder at the deadline? Even had the Sox picked up the rest of his $4.3 million dollar contract, which they probably would have for even a flier Single A prospect or 27 year old AAA baller, no one wanted him. Schriffen is a gas bag.
  4. I don’t think they are comparable talents at all. Robert is about on par with Mike Cameron as a hitter. Soto is on a HoF trajectory as a hitter. Robert’s career line: .267 / .317 / .485 / .802 Soto’s career line: .287 / .423 / .537 / .960
  5. Stone Pony is such a flake. He blamed the team’s suckitude for contemplating retirement but is coming back anyways to milk Jerry’s teat for another year. Watch The Legend go right back to saying how much promise this young team will have for next year. ? ?
  6. Yep. Burger is already 2 for 2 tonight against the Phillies. He’s up to a .255 AVG and .783 OPS. At least Getz can’t be blamed for the Burger trade, as it was supposedly all Kenny’s idea. However, Getz could have improved this team in the short and longer term had he traded for Jake McCarthy instead of Dominic Fletcher, and acquired both Victor Robles and Joey Bart, which would have cost barely anything. But Getz refused to give up on Maldonado early, when every Sox fan watching knew he was done. That’s three good starting position players that Getz could have acquired in-season for next to nothing, and this putrid season was the exact time to do it.
  7. Wow, I didn’t hear about this. I’m not a fan but he must be doing something right. He keeps getting promotions. Imagine if they move Shane Riordan from producer to full-time host?
  8. “Younger Nicky Lopez’s you say? Done! Jerry will be pleased…”
  9. Nah, we need position players closer to 20 than 30.
  10. One of Getz’s two good offseason acquisitions, along with Fedde. Better than nothing, even though the trade return for them was meh. DeJong ensuring himself another contract and gig for next year is impressive.
  11. I’m tripping balls looking at caufield’s post. Anyone else think Quero should be ranked higher than Montgomery at this point? .400 OBP as a catcher that hits for average and power?
  12. Yes!!! I got ripped for saying the Sox should claim the guy since he was DFA a couple times and sucked in the minors this year. But I guess he won’t cost a 40-man roster spot now. Either way, he was pretty good before this year and is still somewhat young. He’s actually 8 months younger than Zach DeLoach. Worth a try.
  13. No, he does. However, he still ends up outperforming Eloy and Moncada with his bat.
  14. The problem is that Eloy and Moncada continue to get reinjured. Moncada is still out. Eloy came back but hasn’t put up numbers as good as Burger’s since 2022. He also hasn’t hit a home run since May 14th — either an issue with his groundball swing or nagging injuries? Not sure, but the Sox did bring him back too early and you could tell he was still hobbled by his hammy.
  15. I think someone may have mentioned it already, but Burger was dealing with a nagging strained left oblique injury since April 15th that was probably the main cause for his slumping bat. https://www.mlb.com/news/jake-burger-has-left-oblique-injury
  16. Yep, great point. I think they keep Burger now because he turned it around. But like the Marlins and Rays always have to do, I sure wouldn’t be surprised to see them deal him within the next two years. They will try to sell high on him with 2+ years of control left.
  17. Why wouldn’t it be a bad thing? Serious question.
  18. Only 3 of the 9 players the Marlins traded seem to fit what you said and I think they chose those 3 guys for a reason. A fourth outfielder that they won’t miss because he’s not good, along with two relievers that they sold high on, knowing that relievers had a ton of value for this year’s trade deadline, yet are fickle performers from year to year. Those guys aren’t exactly the same as an .800 OPS, 35 HR power hitter earning peanuts for the next 4 years. That kind of power is tough to come by for a low payroll team like the Marlins. They obviously can’t easily afford to sign a player with that type of power on the free agent market.
  19. I only see three players that the Marlins traded that fit what you are saying — De La Cruz, who is just a mediocre fourth outfielder, and Brazoban and Hoeing. It looks like they sold high on Brazoban and Hoeing due to their first half performances and the fact that relievers had a ton of value this trade deadline. Marlins Trade Subtractions: CL Tanner Scott — Impending FA: $5.4M this year CF/2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. — 2 more years of control; $2.63M this year 1B/DH Josh Bell — Impending FA; $16.5M this year OF Bryan De La Cruz — 3 more years of control; $768K this year LHP Trevor Rogers — 2 more years of control; $1.53M this year LHP A.J. Puk — 2 more years of control; $1.8M this year RHP Huascar Brazoban — 4 more years of control; $753K this year RHP JT Chargois — 1 more year of control; $1.29M this year RHP Bryan Hoeing — 4 more years of control; $751K this year
  20. I don’t know about this. Power is expensive and the Marlins still have 4 more years of control over Burger. He hasn’t gotten expensive yet (only cost them $740K this year). I’m sure, just like the Rays, the Marlins will be trading Burger once his arbitration years get expensive but he’s not quite there yet.
  21. Regarding #1, the rumored story behind the Burger trade was a ridiculous one. The rumor I remember was that Hahn wanted to deal Tim Anderson to the Marlins but only Kenny, and not Hahn, was allowed to make trades with the Marlins (per Jerry’s rules) due to his close relationship with GM Kim Ng. Hahn wanted to keep Burger but Kenny didn’t like him as a player and dealt him to the Marlins for Eder after finalizing the trade directly with Ng, without Hahn being involved at all.
  22. Agreed with everything here. The biggest problem with the Burger trade looks to be similar to the Fedde trade, and even the Mena trade, thus far. The Sox didn’t trade three decently valuable trade assets into a sure-fire return that will help the rebuild. Hopefully, Eder, Vargas, and Fletcher start performing…
  23. I agree that Burger would’ve likely been at 3B with Moncada out, and other than a bad glove there, why would that have been so bad in a horrible losing season? The Sox defense was terrible anyways as well.
  24. I agree with the timeline problem with Burger but what DH’s did the Sox have that could put up an .800 OPS like Burger? Eloy could barely do it or stay healthy and he would’ve been gone anyways due to his expensive contract. Burger would’ve been starting last year, this year, and for the next few years for the Sox, no doubt.
