7/8 Sox vs Twins, time for Flexual Healing
WhiteSox2023 replied to Heads22's topic in 2024 Season in Review
BOOM. Worth his contract. -
Has Wilson really been that bad recently? He had 3 rough outings in a row on June 19, 20, and 24 in which he gave up a combined 4 runs. But he hasn’t been truly terrible like Kopech and he’s getting optioned to the minors? If he’s injured, put him on the IL. https://www.mlb.com/player/steven-wilson-621051?stats=gamelogs-r-pitching-mlb&year=2024

Yep. And Mountcastle isn’t even that old, but while he’s solid, he’s nothing special and could be moved.
-
I bet they end up trading none of those names.
-
The Brewers would trade Ortiz for Thorpe in a nanosecond. And DL Hall absolutely blows because he walks the world. It would be difficult to argue that the Sox didn’t get a better return for Cease than the Brewers did for Burnes.
-
I think they would target a guy like Fedde over Crochet due to the prospect price and I think some combination of Norby/Beavers/lesser prospects would be enough. I don’t even consider Crochet an option for Baltimore because they won’t want to pay his price. You thinking/hoping the Orioles give up their top prospects for Crochet or Fedde isn’t going to will it into existence. We have already seen this song and dance with Elias.
-
If the Sox had all of the same positional talent, we would be horrified at the thought of trading them away. It isn’t happening. The Orioles have a couple older guys that they can eventually move away from in Mullins and Santander to free up lineup spots.
-
And this is what the Orioles and many other teams would do. They will find a place for both guys.
-
Exactly. But now people are trying to make sense of this stupid move to defend Getz. I remember posters saying that everyone will have to factor in what Wilson returns at this trade deadline in a final assessment of the Cease trade. Finally, how often do teams option a 29 year old to the minors to gain an extra year of control, after the player has had 2+ good seasons in the majors? It’s not like he’s been terrible this year. This is a wasted season. Getz is choosing to allow two DFA candidates in Kuhl and Anderson to get MLB innings over Wilson. Just give Wilson the next 3+ weeks to improve his stats in the majors and then decide whether or not you want to trade him. If his stats get worse, then your decision is easy.
-
Yeah, why let Wilson pitch and see if he can turn himself into a good trade candidate when you have stud relievers like Justin Anderson and Chad Kuhl that need innings?
-
Is Holliday’s stock really down because of 34 bad at bats at age 20? The guy currently has a .926 OPS at AAA. I’m not buying that 34 bad at bats at age 20 have now made him no longer untouchable. The #2 overall prospect in the MLB is still pretty “untouchable” these days.
-
Is it too late to refund them? Send them both back to KC.
-
JR loves fans like you, especially with his “shoot for second place” strategy.
-
What have you been watching this season? These players DO in fact make basic mistakes like clowns and buffoons, or little leaguers, that major leaguers should not be making.
-
Sure, the Sox can shop him all they want but there will be no takers.
-
Eh, for years of control and salary sure. But it has yet to be seen if Thorpe will be better than Cease.
-
Don’t forget Sheets and Julks. If DeJong isn’t hitting homers, he’ll be down around a .700 OPS soon as well just like those guys, but he obviously still has more value than those guys cuz he can play SS. Saddest regression has been Lee.
-
If he’s not an untouchable pitching prospect, he’s gotta be damn close.
-
I would need Crawford as well.
-
People keep saying this, yet it hasn’t happened. Grifol will be the fall guy for JR and Getz at the end of the season. They have kept him employed for this long, so why would they fire him now instead of waiting?
-
He’s a decent fourth outfielder and is cheap so he should be moved, but he isn’t returning much with a .705 OPS.
-
So has that been Kopech’s problem the entire season? Spikes? He is 2-8 with a 5.45 ERA and 5 blown saves.
