While it wouldn’t shock me, this feels awful unsourced and unproven to be presented as fact at this stage.  Some dude ran into Harper and he just threw this out there without provoking?  Seems too easy.

Yeah I don't really buy this. It would be incredibly weird for Harper to this forthcoming to some person about this.

While it wouldn't shock me that JR would do something like this, it does smell fishy and I don't know how reliable Barstool is as a media source.

I know it's unreliable as you all said, but I posted cause this is something I wouldn't doubt Reinsdorf doing and I remember Harper saying he. Could see himself in Chicago and liked the blue collar feel the Sox had. So yeah It most likely is not all true but I wouldn't  put pass Reinsdorf high and mighty arrogance

Whether it's $700 million or $460 million in present day inflation adjusted dollars...

Agreed. The best lies have to be believable and this is. Most celebrity encounters in my life were very brief and rehearsed. The pro golfers have been the singular exception.

Yeah, this just feels blah.

Still wouldn't shock me if they did give the coolest presentation. After all, they did use the United Center. JR just didn't want to give out an actual competitive contract.

It is literally just a picture of unsourced and unconfirmed text messages.  I know this is where we are as a country for "evidence ", but I want more than this.

Oh yeah, I pretty much 99% believe this is fake, but also 100% believe the Sox had a cool presentation.

Harper is on record as of saying he really did enjoy his first meeting with the White Sox.

I do remember an interview he did with Barstool where he said the first meeting was great and then they just stopped communicating with him (or something along those lines) lol

It's not like we're investigating a crime here. I don't know if this legit or not, but it sounds about right. Either way, it's completely inconsequential. One way or another, JR has crashed the Sox into the side of the mountain

If true, it isn't inconsequential.  We literally let one of the best players of this generation who is playing on a contract less than half of similar players today sign with someone else for some still unknown reason.  If we ghosted him to do it, that has ramifications for future player negotiations, but again that is only if it is actually true.

Yea I agree it’s not inconsequential.  I think a lot of us forget how JR literally engineered a NBA freeze out of his own team because of how he told MJ to take a walk.  The stuff he does reverberates even more with him on the Sox because they don’t have any room for error, and we have seen that play out time and time again

Harper once did confirm that the Sox essentially ghosted him.

Yes.  He said it was the type of club he was working to play for.  It was very important for him to play for a working class fanbase and a team that was young with a lot of talent.  He might have been willing to take a bit of a paycut quite frankly if the offer had been respectable.

The deal looks fine now the way salaries are going.

It's really a damn shame.  Seriously.  Feel Harper would have been an amazing fit here.  A fan favorite and a real leader.  And Harper, especially if you listen to him, is pretty thoughtful about these kind of things.  He wasn't just out there chasing the biggest paycheck.  He wanted a place where he felt a genuine connection to and he felt that with the Sox.
