The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
Which is fine. I can see your point of view. The Sox need position player talent, multiples actually. Crawford definitely has the genetics to pan out, but how often does the majority of a four prospects for one established player actually pan out? I’ll take the potential star and former #1 overall prospect with the genetics.

Just like I don't think the Orioles would deal Holliday for Crochet, I don’t think the Phillies would make that deal either. I personally still take the single potential star every time.

I already stated two reasons why it likely didn’t work out. However, the prospect talent and value (at the time) was still returned in those trades. I don’t believe I ever said it would take until 2030 for the Sox to be competitive again. But I do know that banking on Getz to pick out the right lower ranked prospects in any trade is a fool’s errand.

Yes, I don’t understand this at all. It’s either: 6 years of Holliday versus 2 years of Crochet, OR 6 years of Holliday versus 3+ years of Crochet and $75+ million spent on him. Seems like an easy decision to me.

And one could question if giving them guaranteed deals was a good idea, but injuries killed them regardless. I’ll take a guy that is just about major league ready over position prospect(s) the Sox would have to complete the development of (LOL! I can’t even type that with a straight face).

I don’t want to watch Getz and his scouting wizardry acquire a handful of Samuel Zavala’s. I’ll take the highly touted guy over lesser prospects/players that Getz would no doubt choose.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
The Sox need talent up and down the lineup. If Holliday ended up at 2B, I wouldn’t be that upset considering Hahn and now Getz have failed to fill that position (along with RF) for years.- Orioles might need an ace
Jake McCarthy would have been a better return.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
Offer Crochet for Holliday and see if the Orioles bite. Just make sure to keep young Jackson away from the Cuban music scene. It wasn’t long COVID. Those music video vixens sapped all of Moncada’s power.- CHSN to be available on antenna in Chicago
I’m in the western suburbs as well and I didn’t even have to scan for them on my TV. I was able to see them on 62.2 and 62.3 and with a good signal (no choppiness). Try to go to these channels manually by punching in the numbers on your remote. If you can hear the audio but have no display (black screen), you may have the same issue as I have with a couple slightly older TV’s that support MPEG-2 but not the H.264 video codec they are using.- The trade ideas begin! I think it’s funny that likely some of the same posters who have high hopes for guys like Montgomery (22), Ramos (22), and even Vargas (24) to a lesser extent think that 20-year old Holliday is a bust because of 208 MLB plate appearances. The sad thing is that the Orioles wouldn’t accept this potential trade and if Crochet is traded, Getz’s return will be much weaker than Holliday.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
Unless Jerry throws some cash Crochet’s way, we will all enjoy watching him lead the Sox to two more losing seasons. Sounds exciting.- The International Signing Thread
I wonder if there is still some corruption in play? Maybe not to the level of Dave Wilder but for as few of these DR prospects pan out, it seems like it would be easy to continue the corrupt practices.- Orioles might need an ace
But the point is that Mena did have trade value and could have been used to acquire someone other than a fourth outfielder.- 24-25 NFL Thread
A 4th rounder isn’t an awful return, but yeah, it should have been better (2nd or 3rd rounder). But the Steelers will have to throw big money at him in the offseason.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
True, and that’s a good counterpoint. However, Vargas wasn’t quite doing it at ages 18 to 20 and was also in the offense-inflated PCL when he was doing it.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
Every season of his minor league career from ages 18 through 20 in 2022, 2023, and 2024, he has put up a .900+ OPS. His career minor league OPS is .928. Yes, it is the minors, but perhaps he continues that on to the majors once he gets acclimated.- Orioles might need an ace
Mena is the #12 prospect for the Diamondbacks but it’s still more of a reflection on Fletcher than Mena. However, would you trade Bryan Ramos for Fletcher? Ramos is currently the White Sox #12 prospect. Getz acquired a bad fourth outfielder. Those guys are almost free all day long. You should be able to develop and call up that type of role. Trading anything of value for that role is terrible. We now have a 27-year old scrub that hits like Nicky Lopez taking up a roster spot to go along with Vargas who can’t play a position OR hit. Two bad players who will likely be on the roster the majority of next season just because Getz traded for them. Bad trades and awful roster management.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
Yep. While the Sale return was larger (Kopech, along with the other two lesser prospects), Sale was better than Crochet and had an additional year of control. Also, teams aren’t giving up their top prospects like they did in the years of the Sale and Quintana trades. I’d trade Crochet for Holliday in a second, and wouldn’t think twice about it. However, I doubt the Orioles would agree to the deal.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
And the Sox don’t have enough bats for a decent lineup, much less any true star potential players. While you don’t want to lose Crochet, the Sox do have some promising arms that could fill the void. You also free up that $75+ million dollar extension that wouldn’t be going to Crochet for other players.- The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++
When is the last comparable trade of a recent #1 overall prospect for an ace potential starter with two years of control? The Sale trade is all I can think of. I believe Moncada was the #1 overall prospect at the time but Sale had 3 years of control left and was much more established as a top starter than Crochet is right now. Sale was also under an extremely team-friendly contract for those remaining 3 years at $39.5 million total.- RIP Harry Chappas
Per Wikipedia: ”Chappas was measured by Harry Caray and publicly declared to be 5 ft 3 in (1.60 m), an inch or two shorter than established star Freddie Patek. He was one of the shortest players in Major League history, although Chappas stated in an interview in Sports Illustrated that he was closer to 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m), and implied that team owner Bill Veeck exaggerated his short stature for publicity reasons.”- The trade ideas begin! First of all, when does Reinsdorf ever approve including that kind of money in a trade? Even if he did, I think the Orioles would rather have 6 years of a cheap Holliday rather than 3 years of Robert for $40 million. 25:$15M, 26:$20M club option ($2M buyout). 27:$20M club option ($2M buyout)- Schriffen speaks...
