Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
Agreed, Orioles fans should be very happy. This is a better deal for them than what Cease would have cost. These are two of the guys they wanted to dump most.

Bwahaha, robbery. Orioles fans must be ecstatic.

This could be the case, but the comparison between Cease and Burnes was never perfect. Burnes is better but he only has one year of control left.

Uggghhh. This could get ugly. The rumors were that the Brewers more recently weren’t going to trade Burnes and were going to try to compete this year so I assume they received a good offer they couldn’t refuse.

Sox looking at building in South Loop
I’ll have to take my kids to Superdawg. The char-broiled polish looks pretty good. I always bought Hebrew National hot dogs but they aren’t into them as much anymore and prefer restaurant dogs. What is your recommendation on store-bought hot dogs? The best uncooked Italian sausage I’ve had is the fresh garlic sausage from the Original Nottoli’s on Belmont, not too far from Harlem. Amazing sausage to grill if you love garlic.

Are you referring to the $1.50 foot long special with a drink at the CostCo food court? I’ll have to try it. They say it’s all beef. The 18” cheese or pepperoni pizzas for $9.95 each are pretty good for kids parties.

You nailed it. Bernstein loves to get political. My favorite part of the segment was when Bernstein actually made the argument that some Chicagoans aren’t sports fans at all so they don’t care about Sox fans getting a new stadium and only want to know what this new ballpark will add to the city outside of sports. Parkins had to remind Bernstein that they are a sports radio show so sports is the backdrop for all of their discussions. I’m actually curious how much these guys get paid. I understand Bernstein due to his notoriety from the Boers era (even though he’s much worse without Terry) and Holmes because he seems to have multiple gigs including TV. But I wouldn’t be surprised if a guy like Spiegel was only pulling in a 5 digit salary.

That makes sense because it’s his hometown and he went to high school there, but he doesn’t get the choice. Sucks that he’s only one pick away from where he wants to go but it is what it is.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I guess I looked at his contract and thought he would be an expensive acquisition for an interested team — half the remaining $8 million of his salary along with his $4 million dollar buyout. So he would cost around $8 million but the Sox could’ve picked up some of the money if any team was offering anything for Clevinger.

Grifol, Sox out to prove doubters wrong in 2024 (Merkin Optimism Series)
Sounds like the same BS as last year. Remember how he was going to mold last year’s team into a winner and then after the season when he was a proven loser, he backtracked and said he didn’t like the team? Now he’s saying he loves the team again, that Getz put together. Guy is full of it.

Parkins and Spiegel talked about them. Bernstein and Holmes were definitely more biased due to their JR hate.

These guys all suck, but all four were definitely born for radio. ?

Sox looking at building in South Loop
Bernstein sounded like a way more biased and jaded asshole than Holmes. Bernstein only cares what this will do for the city of Chicago and not the White Sox. Holmes is worried about all the Bridgeport area fans losing the ballpark.

He basically said he’ll be back once Reinsdorf is replaced as owner.

Guys who are playing for their careers are usually often injured or not good players, which typically equates to a bad season.

Just imagine a bad breakup. We will all be treated to a new solo by Taylor with lyrics about some football player that was a real asshole and had a small package. With every bad breakup, she gets new song material. But I still don’t understand the Chiefs hate, regardless of Taylor. Mahomes could’ve and should’ve been a Bear. Would Mahomes have been as successful with the Bears as the Chiefs? Who knows. But I can’t hate on Mahomes just because the Bears picked Trubisky over him.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I agree. My last sentence was, “He’s not signing an extension with any team so health and quality performance are his two biggest concerns.” But I don’t think he is going to overexert himself in Spring Training for scouts.
-
James Paxton going to dodgers
Yes, they lowered the guaranteed money and made his deal more incentive-based because of whatever “red flag” they saw. If he truly “failed” the physical, the Dodgers could have nullified the deal completely and signed someone else.

Cease To Padres per Passan
His fastball velocity early in ST would mean nothing, as guys are just ramping themselves up slowly to get their arms back in shape. Also, Cease’s main concern is staying healthy for free agency in two years. It doesn’t matter all that much where he pitches for the next two years and he can’t control it anyways. He’s not going to overextend himself to impress any scouts for a trade that mostly benefits the White Sox, and not him. He’s not signing an extension with any team so health and quality performance are his two biggest concerns.

Cease To Padres per Passan
The fact that Clevinger hasn’t signed anywhere makes me think his rep is truly bad around baseball, and not just for the abuse allegations. He was pretty good last year.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
The only way it would matter if is he gets hurt just warming up for the season and throwing bp.
-
James Paxton going to dodgers
This guy is the pitcher version of Eloy/Moncada. Pretty good when healthy but never healthy.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
Apparently, Getz is asking a lot for Cease, heh.

The OF Thread
Yep. Young corner OF at 24, lefty, with pretty good minor league numbers.

Like @Lip Man 1 said, teams without massive payrolls can still win in the regular season, and have done so recently. And this is a Sox board, afterall, so I chose to make the comparison, since they have failed miserably with relatively high payrolls in recent history. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2023/04/06/mlb-team-payrolls-2023-highest-lowest-mets/11612107002/ MLB team playrolls in 2023 N.Y.
