Was coming to this thread to post the same. Another Oscar option for RF. Still relatively young (just turned 26) and had a decent season offensively for the Guardians in 2022. Fell apart in 2023. Supposedly not very good defensively but I’d rather see a guy like this on the roster than retreads like Phillips or Payton. I have no doubt the White Sox would have taken him if the Red Sox didn’t.

Ortiz makes sense for a team that is on the brink of contention, just like how the Cubs traded for 26 year old Michael Busch. If his bat pans out, they have a cheap 1B/DH option and can dedicate money at more key positions than 1B. The Sox are definitely in a position to give a guy like Ortiz plenty of at bats but I think they would prefer a prospect return in the lower 20’s as far as age goes.

The Astros didn’t do us much of a favor with Korey Lee either.

The Dodgers were smart and dealt their older infield prospect with nowhere to play for a promising 19 year old pitcher.

Yes, premium defensive positions have always been “up the middle” — catcher, SS, and CF.

His reasoning isn’t poor. Our previous GM said the team needed to get more left-handed numerous times to the media, but he pretty much failed at acquiring lefty bats at both 2B and RF. Nothing has changed since and the Sox still have holes at these same two positions. Different GMs are going to value a player’s attributes differently.

Orioles prospects don’t flop. They will all pan out and that is why you can’t trade any of them for Cease.

Andrew Vaughn was the best college hitter in his draft class. We lucky Sox fans have learned that it doesn’t always translate to the MLB.

You are the one claiming to know who is untouchable and who isn’t. I am not making these claims, or saying that I know whom Getz would or wouldn’t accept back in a trade.

That offer may be reasonable, depending on the fourth player. I just don’t know how anyone can say who is available outside of Holliday. I’m sure Elias has specific guys that aren’t a part of his plans, but none of us know who those players are.
