Lol at the idea that you think you would get Dominguez, who btw is pretty overrated himself.
-
Not really. You get prospects that you have more info on..how have done in the upper minors, how did they perform in college and HS. When you trade for a bunch of 17 year olds playing in the Dominican leagues, it’s all a guess.
-
No he’s not. They can afford almost any pitcher on the trade market…they could go out and get a younger starter with high upside like Woo or Miller or Edward Cabrera or someone like that. When you have the talent to trade the Os do, the possibilities open up a lot. I won’t be happy if Cease goes for a deal we could have easily beaten but losing out on Cease doesn’t end their 2024 season.
-
Yea it is…the Yankees package would solely be an upside play. It’s extremely likely you end up with nothing. It’s an awful deal for you guys. You trade a guy like Kopech for that..great. Bur for Cease, you better get some more higher floor guys.
-
Oh I know that. I’m just saying the Os aren’t going to drastically change what they value because of the Red Sox signing a mediocre pitcher with a good upside.
-
Nah. If we don’t get Cease, we just move onto other guys.
-
Because their system blows. They are a bunch of lottery tickets at most. You guys have poo pooed the idea of a package like Ortiz, Beavers, Povich and another prospect and act like it’s nothing…but that’s way better than what the Yanks can offer.
-
No it doesn’t. The Os don’t care about that.
-
Sure if you want a bunch of lottery tickets, so be it…but considering you guys feel you should get multiple top 100 guys and at least one in the top 50, the deal the Yanks could offer isn’t close to what you are hoping for.
-
The Yankees aren’t competition.
-
The Os could trade a quantity package and blow away any deal the overrated Yanks farm system can produce. Why any of you would want the Yankees involved is beyond me.
-
They didn’t lose any leverage. They would have never signed this deal and Gioloto may not have even been a guy they were interested in. In fact, him going to Boston could hurt the Cease market if Boston isn’t willing to add more to the rotation or if they want to make smaller changes. I wouldn’t think either of those is the case but it’s possible and to me, Boston is the one team that could be really stupid in this.
-
We already knew this. Im not sure why some of you are acting surprised about the Gioloto deal. In fact, he got less than what a lot of projections I saw were calling for. His contract means nothing for their pursuit of Cease and doesn’t effect the WS asking price at all.
-
It’s a gamble. He is a high risk/high reward guy. But they have fallback options if he doesn’t work out. Tyler Wells has shown that for 100 innings at least, he’s a good pitcher. Cole Irvin has been good as a starter in the past. McDermott and/or Povich could move fast if they show better command and control. Im not saying this is ideal, I’m just saying they have options. Most teams don’t have a good 5th starter, so trying out different guys isn’t unusual at all.
-
Yep..the run differential is big. The lack of Bautista is big even though I think Kimbrel will be fine but it’s still a step down. The Os were really good in 1 run games last year and had excellent RISP numbers. Neither of those are reasons to believe success comes the next year. Now, the 2024 team will be more talented but it will also be young and inexperienced. Thats my biggest reason for wanting a top starter…I want more margin for error.
-
First of all, I don’t care what some dipshit politician is saying and quite frankly, I don’t want them to pay huge money for a pitcher. Those contracts are usually always big losers. And why wouldn’t those guys be CY candidates? Advanced metrics favor them. Scouting reports favor them. Stuff+ favors them. There is no reason to expect them to not be very good. But the team needs more than 2 guys that you feel good about entering the season to be playoff pitchers. Means has that potential too but he has to show he’s back from TJ.
-
The Os will just start Hall. Elias will not pay more for something than he feels it’s worth. I’m not saying I agree but he won’t do it.
-
Same injury risk as a guy who throws 100 MPH I suppose. He had a lat injury in 2022 but that was rather flukish. He easily threw the most innings he has ever thrown last year and he showed zero signs of fading.
-
If he has a year worthy of what you guys think his trade value is, he will make 14-18M in 2025.
-
Bradish was 4th last year…and GRod was one of the best pitchers in baseball from the AS break on. So yea, that’a not statement founded on reality.
-
Great..but that has nothing to do with the post I quoted. And btw, there will be CY candidates making the league minimum this year.
-
If Cease only makes 12M in 2025, it will likely be because his 2024 was mediocre.
-
Completely disagree. In fact, I think he’s more likely to have a multi year career. His defense is elite at a premium position. The power is there. He has good speed. He is a 4th/5th OF type guy almost for sure. He will carve out a role imo. He is unlikely to be a starter for sure but carving out some kind of a role as a MLer is very possible. As an example, Ryan McKenna has almost 500 PA the last 3 years. He isn’t a good offensive player but he has speed abd plays good defense. MLb is littered with guys like that, even ones with big swing and miss
-
No question but if there are 3 or 4 players in the deal, Fabian being a 3rd or 4th guy is a great get in that deal for you guys.
-
I’m only reacting to the post about trading 6 guys and a quantity type deal. I’m not saying any of those guys can/should/would lead a deal..but that is what the post was about and Cease just isnt worth 6 good prospects. It’s just an absurd ask.
