That might be the worst sports site on the internet.

Fabian is a guy that I could see going to you guys. I love his potential. He’s already an elite defensive CFer with a big arm and he has a lot of power. But he has a lot of swing and miss in his swing, so that’s an issue obviously. The Os love this guy but Bradfield makes him more likely to be moved than this time last year.

6 players? This isn’t even grounded in reality unless 2 or 3 of the players are org filler that have little to no upside. If you don’t get a top 5 guy, a package of Ortiz or Norby, Beavers, Povich and another prospect likely in the 20-30 range seems right. That would be 4 players in your top 10 and likely a few in your top 5, maybe even 3 of them in your top 5. The feeling I get on here is that Cease is worth a lot more than he likely is and that the Os system is created equal with everyone else. The reality is that if you take out the Os top 5 prospects, that it’s still an upper half of the majors system. They have several guys that either have been in top 100s (like Povich was in the 60s for Kiley iirc) or will be by the end of the year, provided that they stay healthy. Just because they aren’t top 100 guys today doesn’t mean much at all. That is an extremely overrated thing by all fan bases imo. I can remember when the Os traded Machado, I wanted 2 guys that were ranked in the top 100 for him. Instead they got Yusniel Diaz, who was top 40 at the time. The 2 guys I wanted were Lux and May…2 guys who were far away and had done nothing in the upper minors. Sometimes those are the better guys to get.

Our board is exactly littered with grounded posters that use consistency between our players and other teams. Here are some tweets on Povich. Some of the numbers I was thinking of didn’t last all year. https://x.com/nathansruiz/status/1684583788767064064?s=46&t=G3On-_LleGmZce-r3ClVZA https://x.com/themilbnerd/status/1656685217539661830?s=46&t=G3On-_LleGmZce-r3ClVZA https://x.com/prospect_tilt/status/1656746731772473349?s=46&t=G3On-_LleGmZce-r3ClVZA https://x.com/thevergepod/status/1684391372948656129?s=46&t=G3On-_LleGmZce-r3ClVZA

The whole “we are down on Cowser because of his ML time” narrative is overplayed. First of all, he hit into some bad luck and while his numbers would have still been bad, they should have been better and perhaps it would have allowed him more opportunity. The Os stupidly gave his at bats to Aaron Hicks, who did have some stretches of being very good but was never going to be a guy that you trust. Secondly, in his pro career, as he has moved up to a higher level, he normally starts off struggling only to get going after that. I can see preferring Kjerstad because you have more confidence in his hit tool. I go back and forth on them. Cowser is the better all around talent. Kjerstad has real defensive concerns and where he ends up. What’s funny is that Beavers could end up being the best prospect out of the 3. He isn’t right now but if we fast forward 10 years from now and find out that he was the best out of the 3, I wouldn’t be surprised.

When the Os traded Lopez to the Twins, Povich was the true target. They liked him out of college. He had some impressive peripheral stats this year. IIRC, he had one of the best FIPs in the minors this year. He has really good stuff, high K rates and misses bats. The problem is, he hasn’t put together good back to back starts in his career unless I’m forgetting him doing it towards the end of last year. His command and control are issues. That said, the Os don’t have a lot of upper minors pitching prospects, he is left handed (our FO has an unhealthy obsessions with lefties because of the new wall in Camden Yards) and has a high ceiling. I don’t want to trade him but personally I think it’s foolish for him to hold anything up and the fans on our site that act like he’s some can’t miss, untouchable guys are just being foolish imo.

We don’t know yet. He wants to be a starter but the Os may need him in the pen. Most Os fans want him in the pen as a high leverage reliever because he hasn’t shown consistency as a starter. For me, if the Os don’t add a top end starter, I just want them to give the ball to Hall every 5th day and see what he can do. His ceiling is extremely high but the consistency and health have not been there. Either way, I think there’s a good chance he’s an important piece in 2024.

Really good players are never blocked.
-
Although if you get Norby, you are going to suck in 2024 anyway, so trying him at second and seeing if he can improve and be average-ish may be a smart play. Obviously his bat looks even better if he can stay at second.
-
He can pretend but I don’t think you want him there, especially if you want to improve your defense. A spot start here and there may be fine but I think he’s more of an OF/DH type guy. Maybe he can improve but he really hasn’t so far.
-
Norby likely isn’t a MIer.
-
Yep..a fact that Os fans can’t seem to wrap their heads around. Not to mention, they built things up early because of what Cano did and that proved to not be sustainable either.
-
He could but more likely he goes to first.
-
The Os aren’t trading Cowser/Kjerstad AND Beavers. They have too many guys coming off the books the next 1-2 years and a lot of are OFers.
-
Yea that’s how I’m reading it too. He is saying he will be the one eating crow (going Back to him saying he wouldn’t be dealt) but he wasn’t clear about that at first and going back to his previous over the top posts, everyone would have felt he was saying that about the board, not him.
-
Kimbrel is fine. Most of his numbers are still very good. He’s not exciting but for 1 year, I’m good with it. Hate losing Bautista of course but Kimbrel is fine for a stop gap.
-
Is that what you have heard? I personally think Valdez is overrated and I don’t like some of his numbers. His statcast numbers and mediocre missed bats stats bother me. Over on our board, most people want Valdez over Cease…not me.
-
Why anyone would want Yankees prospects is beyond me. No organization’s prospects are more hyped than the Yankees.
-
The Os have no pitching? Huh? Bradish was 4th in CY voting last year. Rodriguez was one of the better pitchers in baseball after the AS break and was the best pitching prospect in the sport. We will see how Means bounces back but he has been solid in his career. Kremer is a very solid back end starter. The BP was one of the best in the game and they have some prospects that could come up and help soon. The board we post on has enjoyed reading this site. The people here are cordial and there is good, intelligent baseball conversation….and then you came in and changed that.
-
Just wanted to update you guys…that guy Husker fan is saying that the Os told him they wouldn’t include him in a deal for Cease but apparently he has heard that the Os are talking to a different team and that Cease could be in that deal…he said it’s a team that has been one of the best organizations in the sport for a while, which makes me think Houston and Valdez but who knows. Anyway, just wanted to tell you guys. Again, we have zero idea if the guy is credible or not. He likely has some ties to Povich but not sure how much past that it gets.
-
Yea I don’t mean to derail this thread with that but I have to think this is one of those overarching larger topics that WS fans go back and forth on.
-
I have a lot of opinions of rebuilding and stuff. I think for 1-2 seasons, you completely tear things down, tank and rebuild. But I think anything beyond that is strictly a money grab for ownership. People say the Os rebuilt the right way and that it takes time. That’s all bs. Tanking seasons only guarantees you 2 things…a high draft pick (and with the new rules, this is no longer guaranteed) and a higher draft pool bonus, most of which gets paid to the high pick anyway. The Os took the rebuild to an extreme just as Houston did. I think both didn’t need 4+ years to get it right at the Ml level, it’s just what their owners chose to do to pocket money. But what Elias did need time to do was build up our development system, intl FA system, etc…that’s the type of stuff you guys need to focus on. It used to be we couldn’t develop Roger Clemens. Now we are taking guys off the street and turning them into major contributors. It’s been a very welcomed change.
-
Yea I assumed that as well. Shouldn’t even be something worth discussing though. I know this is off topic but has there been any real talks about a new stadium for you guys? You were the last stadium built before Camden Yards and lost out on that craze that it set off. Is this something that is possible? I know the city of Chicago is having its own issues and not sure if that would impact things?
