Ryan Freel commits suicide
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) He also had logged 3 concussions on record that they know of while playing baseball. The thousands of subconcussions that contact sport players experience are normally going to be a larger driver in CTE than concussions. Freel displayed symptoms of schizophrenia (http://deadspin.com/193311/ryan-freels-little-friend) and probably was comorbid with who knows what. Sad but not really surprising.

2012 AL Pennant Chase
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) Orioles put up 3 on Zach Stewart in the first inning. How is that guy in the big leagues? He just needs more time in the minors. ERA on the season now at 8.47. 13 HR in 34 IP.

Word on 35th . . .
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) I may be the only one here and I'll get serious backlash here from the stat lovers but I for one don't want AJ back You're not alone. I don't dislike AJ. He had a great year, but this team needs more OBP. Rios' contract is too big too move IMO, so he'll stay. Alexei clearly isn't going anywhere and I doubt the front office is going to pull the plug on Viciedo (and they shouldn't). That leaves Beckham and AJ as the last two OBP black holes in the lineup, and I don't think Beckham will be moved considering his defense is excellent and his bat has improved in September (the latter point is sample size bias and I personally wouldn't be opposed to moving him for the right player). That leaves AJ who's probably going to ask for, and this is me guessing here, around $10 million a year. I think that money could be better spent.

Hell, 2012 is a good year.
QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 05:35 AM) Quin, it's cool that the Sox brought you joy while you were struggling but we make the playoffs once every 4 years. Next year is not guaranteed and to be up 3 games a week ago, to down 1 and falling now, it sucks hardcore. We could be out of it in June next year. I want a 2012 Division Title shirt! +1

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) Anyone else confused as to how Jones's fastball doesn't seem to blow anybody away? I'm thinking his windup shows the hitters a pretty good view of his grip.

Pitch f/x had the first three pitches to Kipnis as strikes. Pitch 1 was right down the god damn middle.

QUOTE (Baron @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Well the point is that I am willing to give him the time to improve or regress. I have no loyalties towards a manager. But I am willing to give him the time to show how he can help or potentially hurt this ball club. Great post.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Im always optimistic when it comes to the teams I support. There is no logic in pessimism over something I cant control. I get paid to be pessimistic, so optimism is fun. I think we're all optimistic here (I swear), but you're clearly much more than I am. I was hoping for .500 baseball and no silly drama.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) I don't think anybody wants to get rid of Robin. We just want watchable baseball again. I certainly don't think he should be fired. Frustrated, yes, but I'm not calling for his head.
