  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) He is 1 for his last 21 now, with 10 K's, 0 BB, and 0 XBH And that's not all against LHP, which was the point. Viciedo's slash line against LHP for the last three years: .356/.390/.624 He should bat third.
  2. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) In fact, Law speculates Gray could be more attractive to the Astros and the Cubs as a positive test could prompt him to sign for a discount. This freeing up allotted slot money to use with picks later in the draft. Agreed. If it was HGH or steroids, he'd be f***ed. Since it's "only" an amphetamine, he'll be fine draft position wise.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) Shameless plug, but if you didn't read the article prior to his DL stint, take a look now. That said, I wouldn't worry a TON about his first 2 or 3 games back - he needs to get his baseball eyes back again. That would be true for any player. Once we get to where he's had a couple weeks of AB's, or a month, then let's see where he stands. Stop being reasonable...
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) The panel last night comped Ciuffo to Pierzynski...including the personality. No HS catchers in the first round, please.
  5. After the Wilder fiasco, the Sox were pretty quiet as their Latin organization was rebuilt from the ground up. Marco Paddy is now, I believe, overlooking the Latin talent evaluation, and the Sox did spend $550k last year on a 16-year-old kid who's now with the summer team. If you're looking for players in the States, Euclides Leyer and Jefferson Olacio are probably the most promising of the bunch if full season ball. Braulio Ortiz as well.
  6. Pathetic. Go back to Charlotte.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) Ok, who gets Dunn's at bats if he's cut? Jordan Danks? Tyler Flowers? Angel Sanchez? Keppinger? You're being intentionally difficult here. Insert any player, I don't care who, who can put up league replacement level numbers against LHP. Example: Casper Wells' slash line for the last three years (almost 300 ABs) against LHP: .264/.349/.489
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) What do you do with a guy like Konerko or Dunn? You can't send them to the minors, you can only bench so many of them, and "Cutting them" = paying the rest of their salary, which isn't exactly a major punishment. You can platoon Dunn. Find excuses to pinch hit for him. Put him lower in the order to get him less ABs. This really isn't as hard as you make it out to be. Furthermore, you assume that if you were to get rid of Dunn that there would be no marginal improvement from whomever replaced him. Just because you're paying someone $14 million doesn't mean you have to ride out the entire contract.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Not just disappointed, people are blaming scouts for his failure already. That's admittedly super ignorant. I don't think anyone was blaming the scouts last year for his performance...
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) Hahn talked about holding some players accountable for lack of effort on the radio today -- related? Can't wait until the FO comes around for holding players accountable for lack of results.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) You guys want high risk, high reward athletes who are the best player available at the time, can rise through the system rapidly, and become stars rapidly with no difficulties. And don't tweet too much about themselves. This does not compute. Strawman. People here are mainly disappointed that Hawkins, even for how young he is, has struck out in ~60% of his ABs. The twitter complaints are admittedly dumb.
  12. Phegley in the lineup tonight.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 01:00 PM) Really? How long have you been a Sox fan? Because this sentence could have been written as far back as 2006. Last year, prior to the draft, had to be the worst state of the system. Back in the mid 2000s there were decent prospects here and there, but last year was abysmal.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 10:25 AM) So basically, the White Sox are expected to draft like the White Sox?
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:04 PM) If Thornton came in to start this inning and they scored, Ventura would have been roasted. Nah, leaving Axelrod in was correct. Even if the bullpen came in and crapped the game away the offense would still be to blame.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ May 30, 2013 -> 05:22 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20130530 Kannapolis finishing up a suspended game from earlier this season. Olacio is listed a 6'7 270 and is 19 years old. Good Lord. Johnson 3/3 and now hitting .335 with a SB and CS. And meanwhile DeMichele is hitting a robust .210 in High-A. Woo.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) Scary, isn't it? Thankfully, Lefties who throw in the low to mid 90's grow on trees and are easily replaceable. I personally love it when relievers throw an easy 95 MPH. I mean, let's ignore the fact that since joining the organization his BB/9IP is above 5. This isn't something recent either. He's struggled with control his entire career and there is nothing to suggest he's improved upon it at all.
  18. Thank you mother nature for delaying this Tyler Flowers AB.
  19. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 27, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) This. Dude doesn't have much of a track record. Let's see if he can continue to hit. He's not going to be wowing anyone defensively (not that Flowers is). Be patient. Phegley could be a nice surprise, but he's not the White Sox savior this year. They are going to give Flowers some more time in a down year, as they should. When was the decision made to mail in the season with, as of now, the 3rd best pitching in the AL? We're also only one game under .500.
  20. Before someone spouts off about the possible disruption of the handling of the pitching staff, it should be known that the Sox are on pace to score less than 600 runs this year. Worrying about possible adverse affects to the pitching staff is the equivalent of yelling, "Fire, fire!" in Noah's flood.
  21. Two more XBH hits for Phegley, including his 11th HR. Meanwhile, the Sox front office reaches new, unplumbed depths of derp by not promoting him.
  22. I think Cose and Micah Johnson have mastered Low-A.
  23. Holy hell, Miami's lineup is just awful. The Marlins and Astros are proof that MLB needs a salary floor.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 23, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) Fluff piece courtesy of Scott Merkin: http://m.mlb.com/cws/news/article/2013052248335946/ One takeaway is a Hahn quote stating that switching to Phegley could have unintended consequences for the pitching staff. I could see some risk involved, especially if Phegley is considered a poor game caller. Having a full spring training to work with pitchers would obviously be more ideal, but at some point you have to roll the dice IF Flowers continues to struggle and IF you're still in the playoff hunt later in the season. For now, I think you keep rolling with Flowers and hope he can show some improvement soon. Wow, this is dumb. Yes, let's worry about the pitching staff when it's quite clear that the offense is holding this team back.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 10:09 PM) Unless Phegley's defense is really that bad that the coaching staff is worried about the effect it will have on the pitching staff. Maybe they see him more as a 1B/DH candidate. Hard to say. If they thought it was the right move, they'd pull the plug on Flowers and Gimenez. That they haven't yet shows there are some serious organizational questions about Phegley's defense. If the organization is currently worried about the amount of runs the pitching staff could be giving up, the team is beyond f***ed. Furthermore, I've seen nothing to prove or disprove that the catcher's calling of the game has any noticeable impact on the amount of overall runs scored. I'd imagine pitch calling lags far, far behind the pitcher himself and the defense behind him, in that order.
