Could White Sox trade some pitching to fill other areas in offseason
LDF replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
i think it all starts and ends with shark on the direction the team will take. -
the conundrum i have in trading any of the tyler, sanchez or MJ is still the uncertainty of next yr performance. is sanchez is the player we saw in the first half or is he the player in the 2nd half. mj, can he be a decent defensive player to man 2b or is he the player that is completely lost there. saladino, can he hit enuf. do we hold all of them and loose value for a possible trade????

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:47 AM) Excellent post. It was a very bad decision as it turned out to go with the sieve Micah over vaccuum Sanchez. with what you are saying, no offense but that is hind sight kind of statement. as Dick Allen posted later, the sox needed MJ to do what he did, so the sox could keep Sanchez plugging along. until he started to hit. if MJ didn't performed as he did, Sanchez would not have been given his extra time to get the hang of it.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 02:05 AM) Hector Santiago is still very overrated. I believe his ERA/FIP differential is massive. That being said, I still believe Montas is a future closer. He can't even average 5 innings per start in the minors. and people expects him to be in the majors, then yes, a closer. but ino, this goes to show he needs another yr in the minors, a full yr. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 02:14 AM) He's almost under .200 now in his third year in AAA. Someone in the organization flat out blew their scouting of him. Davidson is the hitting equivalent of Nestor Molina. re scouting, i agree someone was seeing something...... but he put up better avg in the west coast league. is it that bad??? if not, what happen???

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 01:16 AM) That's the thing, it won't be easy for him to maximize total dollars with the plethora of pitching available combined with the season he's had and will be 31. In a sense he has already screwed himself by rejecting the cubs offer and going for FA all the while s***ting the bed in his last year before FA. I guess what I'm saying is, his value is already in the process of being destroyed. The best hope he has at maximizing his value is to take the QO and hope like hell he can rebound and hit paydirt after the 2016 season. That said, I really hope he rejects the QO and is able to sign elsewhere. I cannot wait to be done with Samardzija. on your opinions and hope, i agree big time. this is why some agents do not want to wait for that last yr. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) That's how awesome my prediction skills are.

with ref to the actual question, i strong believe the sox has no choice but to trade some of their minor league pitching for players. the sox are not going to fix the team with FA's. -
if and i do mean if KW leaves for what ever reasons, i was just thinking. while cherington is enticing.... i keep looking at the signing of Panda and imo what a mistake that was. here is some names i have been looking and compiling for the past several weeks. i am looking at the young, candidates with a huge knowledge of the new advance stats background. here is my list in priority #1 John Coppolella - asst to the braves gm. is a really great knowledge of both the advance stats and believe in a in depth, modern advance scouting department. #2. Michael Girsch - runs the stl advance baseball development. i was reading on the hou computer break in.... but what got me was what the cardinals believe in, data management and analytics efforts using advance physical with baseball metric stats to help in the development of the prospects. there are several bos and yanks candidates but i pick this one up as a rising front office young turks. #3. Chris Pittaro - top asst to Billy Beane, oak. has been the top right hand man for billy beane for the last 3 - 4 yrs. was instrumental for most of the key moves oak has made during this time and some time before. here is also a unknown idea..... hou has been assembling a nice good looking team with a huge minor league systems..... i would look that area as well.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 07:07 AM) Rick Hahn tonight also issued a statement saying how everyone was "disappointed" with the way the season had gone but that any changes to the front office, coaching staff or players would be announced after the year was over. Mark i know something was mention in another thread, but this sounds as something is happening or will happen in the off season. if not, why make this blanketed statement.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 05:00 AM) That's kind of the point I was making. Those that want the higher draft pick want it all. Play good but lose and still get to whine about how bad they suck. the daily life of a sox fan.

damn..... just when i was getting comfortable into cheering for laroche to go to hell and look at what he does.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 05:41 AM) Yawn. They'll draft another pitcher. true and continue to rebuild this abysmal system that the FO has screwed up.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 05:35 AM) Excellent post. I hate the team I root for to be a laughingstock and out of it so early in the season so I root for all wins in the hope someday we can compete with Central Division teams again. i posted this comment once before in the game thread this season. i get pissed at the sox if they even lose 1 game. i want them to go undefeated..... now is that a reasonable expectation???? i drink my sox kool aid. all the freaking time. when the sox season ends, so does mine for watching baseball. i do not cheer for any other team come playoff time. but i do follow the draft closely.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 05:26 AM) Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing. Draft picks are too volatile to care about. Give me signings of foreign players and give me free agents (with a front office that can actually project ability instead of signing low impact guys like Dunn, LaRoche and Melky (no power). draft picks is like a shot in the dark. all org hopes for the best. look at hawkins, look jace fry injured, 2nd tommy john surgery, and look brett austin, was a junior when drafted and imo has an extreme long shot to make it. hard facts,

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 04:55 AM) Sorry all those rooting for the higher draft pick. If you want the Sox to suck the rest of the way why is it I see so many comments about how bad the Sox suck at everything, Wouldn't you be cheering when the Sox screw up ? for me, the impression i am getting is, if the sox keep loosing, might as well do it for the draft pick, esp if it is protected top 10. i think, i see for the most part disgruntle fans trying to look at the bright side .

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Those two ideas can't co-exist. The inner circle of no accountability comes directly from the ownership. oh man, why did you have to ruin my day..... -
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) As the minor league seasons are winding down are there are always players on the bubble to be added or dropped from the 40 man roster and thus subject to be drafted by other teams. Who are some of the players on the bubble and what would you do? I noticed Drabek was not on the 40 nor Zach Phillips. I could see teams take them. I think Peter Tago could peek interest. Guys on in danger Ynoa, Nieto, Guerra for starters. What are your thoughts on who you would or wouldn't want to expose? my opinion would be harsh and i do not want to take away from this good subject.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) The absolute biggest criticism you can make of the Kenny Williams era was his diversion of resources from the minor leaguers, to the major leaguers. I don't think it was Jerry's choice to short the majors as much as it was Kenny's in order to add as many pieces to the major league team. I also really think that has clearly changed with the Sox taking BPA for years now, and even starting to spend in Latin America again. nice..... really a nice post of history of this chaos.

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) I have seen many people discuss the value of a first round comp pick(myself included) for Smardzija. While perusing box scores and stats I realized Keenyan Walker and Keon Barnum where both sandwich/comp picks. Ouch! Also made me realize we had spent some higher picks on position players, they just haven't worked out as well as we hoped. Not slamming either player. I did have an additional question/hypothetical, if Smardzija accepted the one year qualifying offer and then left after rebuilding his value would we still be entitled to a comp pick? poor scouting and drafting. that is where the blame should be. but also, not all draft pick will make it. but then again, why has the sox been snake bitten the most..... poor drafting.
