  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) What is Jagielo's ETA? It says 2017 on mlb.com and he's 3 years older than Trey at the same level. Jagielo's stats .284/.347/.495/.842. 16 doubles, 2 triples, 9 HRs, 35 RBIs, 18 BBs, 58 Ks Trey's stats .270/.351/.411/.762 22 doubles, 3 triples, 6 HRs, 55 RBIs, 38 BBs, 72Ks Give me Trey every single day and twice on Sunday. i find using or getting a player who is a "name" looks better than anything that the org has. however, where trey made not be ready next yr, jageilo is. the team needs to field a team. unless they go with saladino at 3b next yr.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) Reinsdorf was in love with Royals (Kauffman) Stadium for some reason and wanted the same stadium. That's what he got minus fountains. A pretty bland Cell. The Sox were mostly concerned with improving the clubhouses and offices and that's what they got. Except for die hard Sox fans most agree the Cell is a lousy looking ballpark. Great food and drink and all that but lousy ballpark. for me, who cares what it looks like, it was new and the food and drinks is what sell a day at the park. the food and drinks is what people talk about.... not that architectural design was nice. the cell is not a lousy park, i am ok with it..... i am not too crazy of the product on the field. btw.... fyi... meant no offense on my bold. ok,.
  3. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) This - It's just not viable to open a bar/restaurant/entertainment in Bridgeport right now that can be supported by ChiSox traffic -- and probably ever. We just have to hope that 15-20 years from now we get it right. 15-20 years from now may even be being generous. The stadium itself is still nice, (I will say after going to other ballparks, my opinion has greatly changed -- Royals is the only place I like less) so convincing tax payers (most likely) to pay for a chunk when you have a stadium that is still viable, may be tough. the demographics as is may not support it, that is why there are central locations to go and have a nice time. i am sorry to say this, but that neighborhood in and around sox area is not it.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) I am sorry but I know that the thought process has changed in past few years (especially publicly or fans perspective) but there is still a TON of value in adding arms like Samardzija or some of the others being dangled. He really can be a major piece to a contending team to ultimately win a WS. You really cant assume that "oh he is just a two month rental you shouldnt have to give up much for that" type of thinking. If we trade him to a contender and he winds up being that piece that puts them over the top in the playoffs and we just got 3 meddling prospects for him?! No, f*** that...give me some talent in return. there can be a real happy medium between the 2 quantity and quality. like don't asked for the world and don't expect too much.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) That seems fairly ridiculous, unless it's four low-level lottery ticket types. unless this is the starting point of any conversation. however for me.... i think this is the truth. dang.
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Non taken, thank you for doing it in a respectful way. Although, I really think if we can package a reliever with Jeff, the value will go higher. Especially because none of our relievers that are receiving interest are expensive. Make me right Jays exact-a-mundo.
  7. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) Somebody posted that the Orange line didn't have a stop at Roosevelt until years later. When the City of Chicago wanted to build the stadium for the White Sox in the South Loop, one of the things involved in the negociations was the adding of a el station at that location. The White Sox would have had to contribute to the cost of the station. JR refused to help pay for that train station. That helped break down the talks between the City and JR. Never made any sense to me what JR did. Every marketing study I have ever seen has shown that 20% of White Sox attendance comes via public transportation. I'm convinced more and more that no matter what the City offered JR he was going to refuse their offers because he wanted to have the stadium built in Addison on land that he owned. If the stadium had been built in Addison I don't know if JR would of owned the stadium. But I do know he owned that land. He wound up selling that land for $9 million dollars. My final comment on this subject is that for most of my life the White Sox ownerships were always talking about a new stadium for the White Sox going back as far as 1967. I never ever thought the new stadium would be built in the same area as the old stadium. I think JR screwed up big time, and the franchise and White Sox fan base has suffered because of it. No tears will be shed on my part when he is no longer running the White Sox. He had a stadium built where it should not have been built and he built a stadium where nobody wants to sit in the upper deck. excellent..... the sox have in their ownership have always look at things the wrong way, always overestimated their position, always asked for too much and always too late.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Hawk called. He wants his stats back. niceeee..... you knnow, you have been on a streak with your great humor.......keep it up. i really enjoy it.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) Keep hitting, Alexei! You'll bring back a better prospect July 31! the sox, as a team, is starting to turn it around, i still have faith in alexei, maybe it is call blind faith, i see him improving and yesterday play at SS reinforced it.
  10. Here are some packages that I think could happen. Toronto gets: SP Jeff Samardzija and RP Zach Putnam White Sox get:SP Sean Reid-Foley, RP Miguel Castro, OF Anthony Alford 1 too many Yankees get: SP Jeff Samardzija White Sox get: SS Jorge Mateo, C Gary Sanchez don't know of both, esp mateo... i would substitute Wade - ss Giants get: SP Jeff Samardzij White Sox get: SS Christian Arroyo, SP Miguel Santos, SS Kelvin Beltre while sfo system is nothing to write about, except for the top prospects. i really like Garcia-catcher.... Pirates get: SP Jeff Samardzija White Sox get: OF Austin Meadows, SS Alen Hanson Dodgers get: SP Jeff Samardzija and RP Zach Putnam White Sox get: OF Alex Verdugo, SP Zach Lee, C Austin Barnes i would think very hard on their next yr comp pick nice work you did great . many thanks.
  11. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) I would trade Shark and Putnam to the Yankees for J.R Murphy , Jagielo, and PTBL. Sox Front office have been a fan of Murphy in the past and is major league ready which is what Hahn is looking for. Also PTBL can be determined based on how far the Yankees go in the playoffs. Have some upside to this deal. i am still advocating on not trying to ask for too much. i believe that 2 or those players would be enuf. i think and this is my assumption that the sox was asking for too much. with hou yesterday.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) None of these guys have hit the states yet, right? Part of me still thinks that Sox will sign Shark. I also wonder if they are reluctant to pay Shark a bunch since that would move his salary way past Sale's?? But then, WTF did they think when they traded for him last winter? that adding shark would give them a better chance of winning in the season, let alone in the playoff. it would've if the sox hadn't started off horrible.
  13. just saw the play that alexei did last nite .... he dove and did a glove flip to sanchez.... what a play. sanchez also did a great job there. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseba...ip-of-the-night
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 05:09 AM) The trouble with Sanchez is that, despite his age, he has been a top Yankee prospect for a couple of years, yet has been passed up by 2 other yankee catching prospects. He looks like one of those stale minor leaguers that may head south soon (such as the "top prospects" we picked out in the Quentin, Santos and Jackson #2 trades). Certainly could be wrong. Just not my top choice. And honestly, I would rather WilliamsHahn not try to zone in on that one prospect - their evaluation skills just aren't that good. for me, the yanks had 4 deep catching prospects last yr. 1 was traded to azl, another left the other was called up. now that leave sanchez. now the word is or rumor is he is a difficult teammate.... but i don't trust that. anyway a catcher who can give this team a temp fix for 2 yr+ is all i am looking at.
  15. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:39 AM) Yes Balta this is what I was getting at. I think hands down a GM trusts Shark to take the ball and go deep in a big playoff game way more that Kaz. Gotta be worth more. We're getting a good MLB-rdy player. And I still think JS resigns here next year on a nice deal. On a side note: part of me thinks Jeff is in on the trade with the FO. "Jeff we're a few pieces away. We'll give you a shot at a ring and get an impact player for next year. Talk to ya in the offseason." bingo.....
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:27 AM) All I can think of is that Scott Kazmir was literally almost out of baseball for awhile...Shark has been on a pretty steady upward swing since his career began. This year he's shown a bit of struggles, but has been solid for 2 months now. and a couple a games he lost, with a normal offensive team, he might not have lost.
  17. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:52 AM) No interest in Pentecost unless they wont to throw him in. The guy may never be able to handle the rigors of catching in pro ball and is coming off his second shoulder surgery in the last year. His bat isn't good enough to play elsewhere so it would really only be a good acquisition in that fans would know him as a former first round pick. A trade with Toronto probably needs to center around pitching as thats where they are the deepest and have an assortment of guys to choose from. It also gives the Sox some depth to deal from this winter to fill holes in the offense. If you get Hoffman, Sanchez, Stroman, Norris, Osuna, or Reid-Foley it gives you some flexibility to move guys like Beck, Montas, Danish, and even Q over the winter to fill in the holes on the offensive side. thank you.... i have been preaching that for a while now.
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:48 AM) You need to be a little deeper such that a flameout or 2 doesn't kill you. Especially in baseball where flameouts are the norm. Gotta be able to pull talent in the draft beyond the first round (and then properly develop it). Just get the best value. If they get an excess of pitching, trade it for some offense. i agree.... i am looking at a possible fa sp, one who was not given a QO. so there will be no draft pick being lost.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:16 AM) Shark will probably be packaged with a reliever to the Jays. They need both. Dodgers and Yankees next. from the yanks i would take sanchez-catcher. he is my #1 catcher i have been looking at for the last month dodgers has 2 very interesting catchers. my #3 and my #5 catchers i have been eye-balling.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 11:49 PM) *fingers crossed for Pentecost and Hoffman package* not i, i like hoffman and 1 of the following, (mitch nay, sean reid foley, alford or davies. )
  21. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) I see another conclusion. Not sure if the Astros are more sabermetric than the Red Sox since they hired Bill James. When the Red Sox traded for Peavy, they gave some pretty good prospects in Iglesias and Montas. But their FO said they felt Peavy would put them in a position to win a World Series. I don't think Peavy had a major impact but they won a World Series. Maybe the Astros feel Kazmir is the piece to put them over the top and like the Red Sox are willing to part with their prospects to do so. i don't know about that, but i do respect what you are saying. i never really thought of it until you brought it up. 1. i on 1 hand think that hou hasn't been in the playoff since when?? 2. coming out of the al west, what other team can really challenge them, eps if they acquire the additional pieces?? 3. they would gain some respectability among their fans and tickets sold for the rest of this season, playoff and next yr season tickets... 4. corp money next offseason. 5. lastly anything can happen in the play off. hou still has a need for a cl/rp and another hitter. they have the minor league to invest to help fill those needs.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) An organization that thought it had the bodies to win didn't even have the balls to fire Robin. That was the ONLY chance at seeing if this team had a WC run in it, which it didn't. So why no trades by now??? it needs to include more than rv....
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) 75% of the posts were freaking out because Samardzija wasn't the first player traded. I think that shows a lack of fortitude. Be patient and have respect for the process. If you wanted to say the Sox should have been selling two weeks ago, not only is that a fair argument, I would agree with you. I think this mixed signals thing is overstated. In operations, it's all about contingencies if the FO you have is good. Right now the Sox are sifting through tens of prospects from more than five teams. They may not have had a specific package on the table ready where they could accept when ready, but they were still acting as sellers behind the scenes even if they were still seeing if they were in the hunt. The only difference is they weren't going to a pull the trigger. i will not answer for anyone else, but for me, i was more angry about 2 things. i have been looking at this catcher for a month now. and maybe some else can attest to it. but i wouldn't want him to. 2nd is i have this picture of the sox fo trying to make a trade and are more into the haggling of the rtn to actually missing the entire trading season. in other words, i have no faith in the fo.
  24. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) I just want an offensive player who can contribute next year. I don't care if that's considered "narrow minded" or "so Kenny Williams". This pitching staff is a playoff caliber staff.. I would not have been that big a fan of the package from the Kaz deal. If you're gonna waste this pitching staff then you might as well trade off said pitching staff. and if selling off on said pitching staff, at least get a rtn of prospects
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) If the Sox have to hold on they get a draft pick. Still a nice fall back option. I thought Soxtalk loved draft picks. that is a fall back possibility and i would love to have the phone number to jr phone.... i think i would start that talk like this ... "you daffy bastard"
