QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) Who cares if Sr was helping Jr? The goal is to win cups, and continue winning cups. Your ax to grind with Bowman is ridiculous and given that the Hawks just won a third cup in 6 years, extremely poorly timed. What would you have him do different? All of your complaints are based on conjecture from rumored deals and maybe these people said something one time and oh my god Dale Tallon. If Tallon is so great and the Hawks miss him so much, why aren't the Panthers a perennial contender? do you follow hockey??? so are you happy with this trade??? simple questions. now for the last statement, there comes a time when the hockey gods shine on your team it happen, esp with the main core players who the hawks drafted. then add the 2 special key players, toews and kane and you get the success of the hawks. that same recipe does not happen all the time. the talent pool the hawks had is really diminishing, esp in one area.... d-man. how many draft picks and d-man has bowman traded. this chain of events is a knee jerk overreaction being done by bowman. yes i will mention this, b/c no one has, the hawks, basing on age of key players, the end of the contracts, will only have several more yrs of being able to win the cup. i know that and i was hoping that there will be a subtle transition of players to continue the winning. bowman jr got the gm job, b/c of sr and he had no record to prove that he deserved it. the org was loaded with prospects and picks. so again, are you happy with this trade???

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) If this is what it took to move Sharp, then it really does seem like Bickell will be unmovable. Too bad they can't pull a Huet and exile him to Switzerland with his 4 mil salary cap hit, he is really unmovable and now, bowman gone and extended anisomov and adding 1 mill more to his contract. now that was done even before he even skated 1 game with the team. let alone if he is recovered from his injury. sharp rtn in the trade was far less than what org wanted.... he was desperate and to entice the trade, added johns to the package, in order to get it done. a savings of 1 mil. this is outing salary subtracted from incoming salary. now, the 2 hawks players who are waiting for some room to cleared from the salary, how is their future looks?? this team sure has gotten older..... giving away promising d-man, and look at seabrook contract coming up next yr. i just hope that crawford is not traded to save on salary..... just my thoughts on the crawford trade rumblings.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) What are you talking about? http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/m_page.htm?id=47738 i remember when tallon was the gm, talk was swirling of bowman advancing in the ranks. according the some new source back then bowman sr and jr were constantly talking with sr doing most of the talking, esp at practices. now, again among the fans, when tallon was let go and bowman jr took over, they are talks that sr was helping jr. now back to what i wrote, i mentioned on the other nhl thread that was put away, this off season will show me, what kind of gm bowman is really and i will be snarky and say, i guess he is not getting any real time info from daddy.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 06:14 AM) I heard a lot of really dumb Cubs fans today. A lot showed up late and left early in our section too. man, at a sox game, if the score was 1-0, i really don't see sox fans leaving. on a side note, what a waste of money.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) The rest of the league: Stan we know the situation you are in. Turn around and bend over. yeah, he doesn't have daddy to help him or to tell him what to do.

QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 03:14 AM) I think Avi has tons of potential. I would rather see us get something for Laroche. Right now he is raping us of a lot of money. Hopefully he gets hot and we can either ride it out or flip him for some young prospect. If he continues like this his market value is next to nothing. screw prospects, comp picks. i think Stl will be more willing with that.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 03:19 AM) It's upsetting to me that instead of being happy and excited that the Sox won, I am more relieved that I don't have to hear the Cubs fans. Maybe I am weak and should know better but I am not the s*** talking type and the Cubs fans I deal with tend to be. I am going to the game Sunday as well so I wanted to be in good shape going in just so I don't have to deal with meatheads. Obviously I am biased, but does anyone else feel like your regular Cubs fan is an especially uneducated fan? I am sure it has a lot to do with them losing 90+ games three out of the last four years and not winning a playoff game since Bush's first term but I find myself just nodding at their weak attempts to make banter. Yes, the Cubs have more fans at their Cubs and yes, if the season ended today the Cubs would be in the playoffs. I am just not phased. They just seem out of the loop. Some guy was giving me s*** at the golf course and I tried to change the subject and said, "Is Rondon not the Cubs closer anymore?" and he said "Rondon is on the Sox." So I am not like, "No, not Rodon, Hector RONDON, the Cubs closer," and he says, "No it's Motte, the Cardinals guy, we don't have a Rodon." It's one guy, but still. So bad. Please Chris Sale, be the best Chris Sale you can be so I can relax when we lose 2-1 or 1-0 on Sunday for Quintana vs. Arrieta. for me, all that bull crap goes back to the 70's. and back then it was the, as you called it, the meathead mentality. for me, being young, healthy and stupid with my friends, if the sCrubs fans were looking to dance, they found dance partners. now as an old fart, that b/s still gets my blood boiling. enjoy the freaking game. in the 90's all the crap that gets started at the park is done, from the sCrubs fans. they should enjoy the game and watch the sox win.

QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 01:11 AM) So I have been a Sox fan since I was 9 when Jeff Torburg spoke at my little league banquet in NJ and then he got the Sox manager job the next year. I live in eastern NC now and have never seen a white sox game in person. Well I have managed to make my 9 year old son a white sox fan and for his birthday we are going to see the Sox play the angels in August on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Even though he loves the Sox Mike Trout is his favorite player and we are sitting in row 1 in right center for 1 game and behind the sox dugout a few rows back for Game 2. So I would love some advice. We are flying southwest into midway tuesday morning. We have not booked a hotel yet and was wondering if we could get recommendations on good hotels. I am looking to spend no more than $200 per night. Also, what are some places to eat at? We are both huge sports fans so sports bars with great food are a priority. Any other cool things that we should check out in the city. We have possibly some of tuesday and wednesday morning to kill. Also, we love to tailgate so if anyone tailgates for games on here and wants another 2 people let me know. Thanks in advance. Pete btw, tell your son to bring the sox some good luch.

QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 03:10 AM) My first question is what is lsd? Thanks for the recommendations on hotels. I will look into hotwire. I need to know the polish sausage place. Will definitely try some deep dish pizza. Keep the recommendations \coming. The sox are hot right now. Watch every game on mlbtv. Hopefully they will figure out how to score some runs. Pitching has been amazing. Hoping we get to see Sale pitch as that is my son's favorite player on the sox. as someone already posted it is lake shore drive. the food at the park is great. the refreshments, soda, watered down. oh well can't be perfect. get there as early as you can wear your sox gear and have a little project for your son, let him make a poster saying NC - Sox fan. and with that, the players are great, they will come over and talk. that is all b/c of the owners insisting on conversation with the fans. ref the polish, i know maxwell str got demolish, i don't know where they moved to. but they prob be a line to get in there. you must eat some italian beef sandwiches. extra juicy.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 03:10 AM) Everyone should of seen that. The asking price was ridiculous as is. and he got delusional in this off season. an off season of a real test of what he can do with a salary cap, how to deal with players and excessive players ready to step in and how to continue to win. so far 2 out of 3 he lost. the last one, only when the season start will the hawks know how it did. i can't believe this, in 2 weeks, he gave away 2 very promising d-mens.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 01:58 AM) Hawks actually got older in this deal. Yikes. so according to what the hawks wanted at draft time is sure far less than what he was traded for.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) Best player in this deal is Stephen Johns. Unreal. LDF, I told you man, nothing of great value in the deal. Daley could be solid on the PP but Garbutt literally has no spot on this team. I see him getting flipped. this trade was done and john added the enticement to get rid of sharp. wow, this is a lousy trade, except of freeing up money and posters criticized tallon.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) So you'd have got rid of Butler and Rose and just made the Bulls suck instead (see my post above). That would have put them back into the early post Jordan era and would have been awful. You don't break up a consensus top 2 team in the East and you certainly don't just assume the Cavs are going to win every title from here on out. That is foolish. You want to just put yourself with the long list of teams who suck and are tanking cause they think it is easy to do? The flipping Lakers of all people can't even sign major free agent contracts, Knicks have the same issue. You need to have good players and and transcendental generational players rarely fall in your laps so to tank and hope you get the top pick in a class where a Lebron / AD / Duncan type talent is their is just a hopeless / loserless proposition. it doesn't really matter what i would have done or wanted, it is not going to happen. but i do like 2 players on the lakers who are only 2 yrs in the league and would be a great, added to the main core of the bulls. but as i said, it doesn't matter now. with that statement, i still have my opinion on rose. oh well.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) NICE TYLER! that was sweet by the sox, but i love the idea of stealing 3rd. aggressive. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) What are you talking about. Butler isn't available. He just signed a mega contract (which will be a value contract if he plays similar to he did last year) and will only become more of a value going forward. And what do they Lakers have to offer? Their 1st round pick next year is Philly's (unless Lakers pick in top 3 and if they had Butler they wouldn't). I find all of this talk about blowing up a team that is widely regarded as the 2nd best in the East complete and utter crap. You don't blow up teams that are knocking right on the door of championships, you try to improve them, and sometimes that improvement comes from within (or other teams getting worse). If people followed a lot of the logic applied here, the Bulls would have never won 1 championship, let alone six. Afterall, it took Jordan until his 7th season to win his first title. yeah jimmy butler resigned for 5 yrs and all i was saying, i would have traded butler. but the other problem was getting rid of rose. i hope i am wrong, but i don't have confidence in the bulls while rose is on the team.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Sorry for unclear sentence structure. If Avi remains this player, then even if we fill in the 3b and SS holes, we will continue to have a major weakness in our lineup - Avi. Other people (not naming names) think we're able to compete next year if we just fill in a couple holes. I disagree and Avi is one of many reasons. nah, it was my bad. but i will put my name there, i still think that IF they do it right, the sox may be able to do it. it all depends on this trading season and the continue growth of some players the sox have. however, and this is the big part and important part, how will the FO do in the trading rt.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) I sort of wonder if the Bulls would look at Cousins if he became available, but whether he'd be a good fit under Hoiberg and what trade package they could offer is another matter entirely. the bulls are entrench with Rose and his contract. other than that, i would really trade Butler to the lakers for what they would be willing to part with. lakers really like butler. i wonder if rose is really unmovable???

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) The 2m in 2016 is not a big deal, it's the "if he remains this same player he can 100% completely sabotage people's plans for how this team competes next year". If you're like me and think this franchise is a mess you don't care about that, you play him and see if maybe something turns out well. But, if you're like the people who argue "we just need 1 or 2 more pieces" like some in this thread...if he remains this player filling the 3b and SS holes will not be enough. In 2017 the money actually starts becoming a big deal. That's a lot to pay a guy if his track record is a below-replacement player. i am a little confuse here. are were talking about Avi.....right??? if not, i was totally off base on my post. many thanks.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) Are you prepared to pay him $2 million in 2016 if he continues playing like this? Probably. Are you prepared to pay him $4.5 million in 2017 if he continues playing like this through 2016? That's the level we offered Viciedo but narrowly and then cut him loose in order to sign a win-now player. By 2016 the clock officially starts ticking on him to perform. If he doesn't show improvement next year and the White Sox continue their "win every year" offseasons, replacing him will look like a major upgrade. It will look like Viciedo looked in this year's OF - a "we can't compete if he's in this position, we need to upgrade it" slot. He's fine for a rebuilding roster and I have no problem picking up other guys like him if we're rebuilding, but right now he's absolutely in the way of a competitive team. with ref to the salary cap, there were many more screw up than giving him 2 mil. however i would like to see how he does in the season of 2016 before i decided how to look at the whole picture then.
