QUOTE (wsiskel @ May 12, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) Nick Capra, Director of Player Development on Rondon: “Offensively, he’s getting much, much better from the left side. It’s a matter of mechanics. We are trying to get him to use his legs more – he doesn’t use them all that much in aspects of the game – both offensively and defensively. He has a chance to be a special player,” said Capra. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 12, 2015 -> 10:00 PM) Fulmer's mechanics are vicious and Jay's are pretty clean. Fulmer is listed 6' so he's probably 5'10" or 5'11". He pushes his body to the absolute limit to get to the mid 90's fastball he throws. His high octane delivery is hard to repeat and is probably the reason his control tends to suffer (while dominant, no shortage of walks). His stuff is nasty no doubt but those who think he can start long term are the minority. Recently, there is some precedence of guys like him, short guys with a high effort delivery, succeeding in the bigs with Gray and Stroman. I just don't know if his risk level is worth it for the Sox at #8. Especially considering they have no 2nd and 3rd round picks. You would hate to halt the progress in the minors with a goose egg of a draft. your 2 posts, nice, great reading, i wish you would do more on the minors. nice. btw, i think Jay is a generous 6'0 as well and slim built.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 12, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) Nice start to a game... Anderson triple, May single, Hawkins double. man, the players performances on the minor level is doing great. yesss.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 12, 2015 -> 11:44 PM) 200 innings was just an arbitrary number that I threw out there. It just be 170 innings, 180 innings, whatever. The point that I was trying to make is that he COULD pitch 200 innings if he absolutely had to. I definitely don't think he should, as what you brought up is completely true. I just tend to not agree with the innings limit, especially when a team is in playoff contention. Not that the Sox would be anyway. r u really serious, is this suppose to be in green. oh i can see, it, he pitched in little league, so yeah, he has enuf inning to pitched in the majors and at least 175-200 if needed. cmon, what are you smoking, pass it to the left. ~~~ edit, --- i guess i may have gone too far.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) I literally lol'd at this statement. White Sox fans are the king of excuses. Your last two posts have quite literally been two long lists of excuses for fans. The White Sox were something like the second most winning team in the 90's and the 7th most winning team in the 2000's. The White Sox won 99 and 90 games in back to back seasons, attendance fell after the second year. The last time the White Sox were in the playoffs, attendance fell the next year. A few years back when the Sox spent all but 5 days of the season in first place, attendance fell. Tell me again about winning curing all? i can't talk about the recent seasons, but i can answer for the 90's. the fans came out, but many and i do mean many fans didn't think the owners did enuf to endear them to the fans. meaning getting that final piece.... believe me. i went to several owner's meeting with the fans. the biggest gripe at that time was the fans felt betrayed, they felt the owners only did enuf to satisfy the fans for the season tickets, not to get that extra player to win it all. the sox need to really go all out, get the necessary players to win it all, plus a personable player or 3, and the fans will come out. these little promo on what the 2.95 a ticket. the fans don't care about little promo toys, give some money discount tickets. get to the heart of the working person, financial relief. if this team does not turn it around, this summer will be a horrible summer and then the owners will again blame the fans for the attendance. they do not take accountability factor for themselves, why should they, when was the last time they said it was their fault?

another kid i keep seeing putting up numbers, in a very quite way is Luke Gillingham jr, - sp - navy what are anyone opinion on him. too bad the sox don't have a 3rd pick. but need to deal with his navy commitment. btw, how does that do with is eligibility in the coming yrs???

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 12, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) Yeah, I guess I should say the perceived best player available. I think the "best player available" term is used because without knowing the seven picks ahead of the Sox, we don't know who the "BPA" will be. But I get what youre saying, no matter what, its a crap shoot so the BPA does not always end up being the BPA. in most cases i had a heartburn on the BPA theme, but when the draft is wide open as it is, i believe in drafting for need, it the selection is narrow and what the team has in the stables.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 12, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) Yeah, its not the best policy by any means, trading recently signed FA's but it can be done but I would only consider that if the Sox were so bad come July that they decide to blow it all up and start making trades to bring in young talent. It scares me to say that because the Sox could potentially use a busted season as a reason to trade players off to bring in talent to help offset losing their second and third round picks. I hope this is not the case. This season has been so chaotic, I'm not sure what to expect. I guess all we can do is ride it out and see what happens. You've peaked my interest in Dewees. I'm going to read up some more on him. Dewees is really good, he started to turn it on in cape cod last yr, look at the end of the yr cape cod stats. another one i really like is scott kingery 2b, Arz and the double play partner of Newman. i really think Kingery may be better defensively than Newman and at SS. he moves over to 2b b/c newman was there. this yr up to last week his hits/K's is something like 35 / 9, and ungodly ratio.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 12, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) Good point, I forgot about the added benefit of working closely with Cooper. Rodon and Cooper seemed to work well together in ST plus, as you said, spending the time with veterans could help too. plus, Rodon mention earlier, that Sale was forthcoming in teaching his something, i can't remember what it was. Sale can add to that development.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 12, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) I agree with you there. When he came on last night it seemed pretty clear. Some guys just can't work out of the pen and it was always a lot to ask a 22 year old kid that has never relieved to suddenly start pitching high leverage innings in MLB. Just start him. If he runs out of innings in August who cares. Put the best team on the field until then and see what happens. exactly, let the team go full force to savage the season and to hell with strategy and what if. i want this team in the playoff.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 12, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Sox are 12-17 Danks has sucked outside of his last start, which was impressive. Noesi continuously fudges his already soiled Huggies. Rodon had an impressive debut Saturday. So thow does sending Rodon to Charlotte help the Sox or Rodon? Another question is what kind of message does that send to Rodon? Noesi has lost his job and deservingly so. The Rodon era has begun so let's just try and enjoy. i like it and agree, plus he will get hands on with coop, and the other sp's. it is a win/win situation.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) However, they're "Not" contending every year. Not on that, they're not contending this year at a cost almost $30 million more than not contending last year, and they're doing so with another payroll increase already on the books for next year just based on the contracts they currently have - so revenue growth this year in the form of at least a wild card hunt was an absolute must just to keep things balanced. "They're better off contending every year than following the boom & bust cycle". When do we get this boom exactly? Heck, when do we get any year of contending? a nice subtle sarcasm, nice.

with anyone mock up to recently, they had Arz either picking Tate or Rodgers. take Tate out of this equation. now Rodger's, am i missing something here?? why would someone sacrifice getting a talent of Rodgers, for saving money and drafting, not even a fitting alternative, but for a long shot?? i really don't understand this.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 12, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) I've seen at least three posts now conflating this "all in" with the KW "all ins" (pick your year) and as you said, it should stop. This isn't picking up Alex Rios on waivers or trading for Jake Peavy. The Sox have exactly one contract they might have trouble moving (La Roche) and even then it's not like they are on the hook for much there. The only player of any consequence they gave up was Semien who wasn't going to see much time here anyways. We can argue that picking Micah over Semien was dumb but whatever it's clear they didn't have a plan for him here. while i am not trying to take sides, another player i liked was Bassitt. as i said, i am not going to voice my thoughts on this. peace.

Kyle Drabek is going to make me look like an idiot. i was against picking him up. i hope he can have success on the major level as he is in the minor level.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 12, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) One thing the Sox can do is take the BPA in June. If the Sox are out of contention in July, they can make a few trades using their major/minor league players to address the organizations weaknesses and hopefully bring back talent that could possibly help in the near future. Of course there are a few major league players that need to increase their value first. My two biggest concerns are C and 3B. 3B is especially frustrating because I absolutely loved the Davidson acquisition and was telling the wife all about it the day it happened. She was laughing at me for being so giddy. Oops, that one has not turned out so well. Though I still cling to hope. trade a player who they got in fa rt. i do not know. i know it is done, but i still think it is a cheesey thing to do. but you are right, doing that, will get good players in rtn. edit, btw, i was never a fan of that trade, giving up a pitcher with success, for a prospect, and unproven one at that was too much.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 12, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) BPA is a myth in relation to the MLB draft. Sure everyone once in a while there is a sure fire guy like Strasburg or Harper that jump out as the best players in their draft, but other than that it is always a weighted argument. The factors that need to be balanced are players floors and ceilings, risk of a player meeting/not meeting their ceiling. Thing there are things like organizational and cultural (style of baseball) fit. I saw that as well, not sure that I like the idea of Jay that high. He has pretty good stuff but has been in the bullpen his entire college career and has a build that would indicate he will be a bullpen arm in the future. If they are viewing him as a bullpen piece to help them this season (like Finnegan) that could make sense. re: bold--- wow!!!! excellent analysis.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 12, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) Funkhouser seems to be the exact thing that the Sox tend to go after. Great FB, solid secondary pitches that should develop into plus, just needs a little refinement to reach his ceiling. Plus being a local kid really helps as well. Unless he is gone, I would be surprised if he is not the pick. If he is gone, the Sox may roll the dice and go underslot on Matuella and offer him $1.4M. Since he is injured the Sox are only required to give him 40% of slot value to get compensation if he does not sign. If he does, you have a guy that was the pre-season #1 overall pick (two years in a row) at a discount and can use the $2M saved to get some high end talent that slips due to signablitiy. If he doesn't sign you have two first round picks, including #9 overall, in what figures to be a much better draft next season. the one thing i like about mock draft or opinions on prospects, no one is right. it is just opinions that add to another way of thinking. many thanks for your input. i do like you under-slot idea to save 2 mil.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 12, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) Whoaa! Your research is impressive and love how your thinking outside the box. Don't know how I can contribute since you know more about these kids than myself. You just exposed me LDF. With the Sox losing both second and third round picks, going way under slot to have more money later is not a bad strategy. Personally, depending on who's left after the first seven picks, I'd like to see a college pitcher picked in hopes that pitcher can get rise through the system quicker and maybe see him sometime in 2017, or sooner? I see both sides of the coin. I think spreading the money out is a good plan for a team that is rebuilding but if a team is looking to contend or be close to it, the BPA is the better choice in my humble opinion. Who knows, maybe Dewees ends up a Schwarber type pick for the Sox. many thanks for your good words. i do not have the answers to everything. but i am looking at the team weakness and their needs. the pitchers that will be available, i thought long and hard, but is it worth getting a pitcher and let the weakness go unanswered? the pen as of now, have some good arms, i am thinking missing a yr or drafting at the lower level for pitchers can be done. a 3b or a cf'er/of'er who can hit, and is in college can be the pick of choice. many thanks

in what i am about to express, do not take it wrong, but i believe someone can not be sold on anything, i look at Rondon and what is there not to like. most needs to think outside the box with Rondon. i see him as being a plus +++ many times over who can solidify the defense from the SS position. but the team may need to sacrife the offense, that is if the team will be ok with that. peace.

the law of the land is fvvck up, but it is the only law that in the most part good. i have been sued twice for hurting someone in a altercation. i am the son of a single mother, my pop died in 69. this is 76 in chi. jewel parking lot. this idiot comes speeding around the corner and almost hit my mother, she dove and hurt her hip. i was waking up, this guy, who was way older than i and the race is not the subject, came up and was yelling at her. the point is, i lost my temper and hurt him bad. i beat him up and at the end, took his leg, put it on the bumper and i step on it. i kinda lost my temper. i was sued for $20,000. which in 76 was a lot of money. the point is, sometimes it take time to think what you are about to do.
