    Law/Legal Thread

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 12, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) Thanks farmteam. I feel like a couple decades ago the kid could have hurt the guy for touching his mother and everything would be fine legally. Oh well. maybe, the fact is he is 22 yo, not a juvenile and he chased him. get a great lawyer and go after the sexual assault factor. also get a lawyer to make sure on any civil actions that they might want to pursue. good protection in this day and age.
  2. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 12, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) Yeah, he kind of generalized that all Sox fans liked the idea and I just wanted to show it was not the case. I understand with him being a new member he likely was not around last November when the thread began. I'm going to reread it some more later for s***s and giggles.lol it is going to be interesting reading for you.
  3. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ May 12, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) My first reaction is that this does not bode well for the 2015 White Sox. When you have upper management PUBLICLY stating that the manager has been given a talking-to that he should start... managing... as others have pointed out, this is disturbing on so many levels: a) That a MLB manager needs to be told to start managing b) That a MLB manager needs adult supervision c) When he's supposed to be the adult supervision for the players d) That we're in the second month of a so far terrible season and it's NOW that they're adopting a new approach? Isn't that was pre-season is for, implementing new approaches that you'll use in the regular season? The fact that they made it public could be a couple of things: 1) they don't believe the message will take if given only privately, which is scary (or really passive-aggressive), or 2) they're setting the stage for his exit should things not improve in the near future. Sigh. nice and well thought out.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) The really key thing with him is, he's not walking people anymore. And his fastball was still hitting upper 90s last night, topped at 99. If he's really got his control back, he needs to be in the majors. wow, i really hope he gets it right. another arm. yes.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) Yes he is. I'm just not super-confident about his chances to be a starting regular. thanks for your honesty, however, i think there are some teams that will welcome a power hitting third baseman, who has the ability to defend the position and low batting avg. i just don't know if the sox is one of them.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 12, 2015 -> 06:17 AM) You're using what that guy said? I remember him, he didn't make much sense with his posts lol coming from one poster who doesn't make sense in his post, b/c of my english being horrible. his type of writing should not be held against that person. no one on this board has it perfect 100% of the time.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) “You’re always curious, obviously, because you feel like you might be playing them (the Mets) in the playoffs,” Maddon said. “But my focus is so much on us, what we’re doing. I went through the same exercise in Tampa Bay, where you’re playing against a lot of really stern competition in that division. If you get caught up in trying to compare yourself to everybody else, I don’t think it really works. “I really believe in comparing yourself to yourself first. And whatever everybody else is doing doesn’t really matter. I don’t mean to sound pretentious about that at all. “It’s about us getting our program across, our players buying into our program, us playing the game we think is the right way to play the game. And then how everybody else wants to fit into that, that’s fine.” www.csnchicago.com with all due respect, i don't understand the reasoning of this, esp here or at this time in this thread. this is a fluff piece, is it to show the comparable difference in the 2 coaches, sox vs sCrubs and the appch.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) It's all opinion of course. I think his average may stay pretty close to where it is, and I'd suggest it is his average, walks and contact rate that will, at this point, dictate his future. The power and defense are already there, save for some maturation of the tools. So is the speed. i am glad you mention this, i sometime wondering, the way some of the posters have posted, on lack of offense, if they know what they would like. it is a rarity that a player will come that provides both power and defense. now come the the special something that most overlooks. the avg. before, more of a specific time, the acquiring of Dunn, that time in baseball, it appears to me, the clubs will sacrifice both defense and avg, if the power is there. so will teams, more specifically the sox, what will be ignored to acquire that next prospects, or in this case, to develop. checklist, Davidson, subject 1. power - yes 2. defense for the position - yes ---- 2.5 is it passable - ?? 3. hitting for avg --- no would you consider him still a prospect for the sox???
  9. major sports writers pick for the sox. http://www.southsidesox.com/2015/5/9/85767...ollege-pitchers

  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 11, 2015 -> 11:31 PM) The front office didn't come up with it, it's not a marketing ploy. It's a clubhouse thing. and did i ever mention anything of the fo or marketing or anything like that??
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) It has, indeed, been ugly. Fortunately, regression works both ways. If they can manage to not sink themselves while they're all simultaneously slumping, then they've got a shot to get back in it when the pendulum swings the other way. i agree, while it wasn't the most ideal beginning, there is a long season still, and as i said, wait until this team gels. when they are clicking on all cylinders, whew, i can't wait.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Why wouldn't fans want to buy it? If the players wear it, the fans will want to wear it too. If you don't want to wear it, that's OK. welcome back but i think i made that point in what ever floats your boat comment. the slogan / logo of "good guys wears black" that was different. i just don't see the appeal. but it is me, as i have said.
  14. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) I think unless a prospect is pushing the door on the majors, you shouldn't get too crazy about learning different positions. In Alvarez's case, he was away from baseball so long, I am sure he is doing his best to learn shortstop. It seems like that position is incredibly valuable right now with Addison Russell, Franklin Barreto, and Marcus Semien being young shortstops that were centerpieces to big trades recently. he may be getting to a position where he needs to be moved, that is all i am saying. what more can he learn now?? give him reps at a different position and now he is multi position experience.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Why? b/c i am tired of being a jerk. b/c they are the coaches who are paid for this b/c they suppose to know what they are doing b/c the owners trust them b/c like they will listen to us, the fans. and mostly, maybe i am full of it this morning.
  16. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) What's to understand? It's a bunch of guys having fun ribbing one of their teammates. i understand that, its the idea of fans wanting to buy it. that is the problem i have. but i am for what ever floats your boat so to speak.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) Catching? It takes years of play at that position to get any good at it. You're also, I think, wasting his speed and athleticism at that position. I'd imagine that is the last possible option for him. then i was wrong, i was looking at the weak point in the sox system. if not infield, then it is outfield. i don't know. i am just throwing some ideas and hope i can be lucky on one.
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Agreed. Play him at 3rd and 2nd this week to get him ready for 3B in Bham.Only kinda joking. He may have the maturity to handle the double promo, then again, that may be crazy. Don't promote Trey yet, though, just starting tother get it at WS. Maybe promoting Peter to make room makes the most sense. you know, the sox fo prob has been thinking this as well. i am agreement of not letting him waste at this level, b/c of his age. i am still wondering if catching is out of the question.
  19. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) Needs to be moved up to the next level. Start playing him in different positions maybe? Could be a great utility guy i am for trying him at 3b... plus i think he should have the leg endurance for catching.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Dude reached all five times up today. 2-2, 3 BB, also 3 SB. i just read this stats for this morning. what a game plus 3 bb's on top of the hitting stats. jeez what to do with him???
  21. i must really be freaking too old to understand the reason this is being liked. sorry.
  22. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 11, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) They are still not hitting on all cylinders but have won two series in a row against decent/good teams. and as you said, wait until they get it right.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2015 -> 05:00 PM) If they aren't going to move out of state, and not replaced, I would agree, but the state does make money on White Sox employees and other teams' players by taxing them the now 3.5% of the portion of money they made. It does create jobs, again, those people all have to pay state taxes, and this was financed by a hotel tax which theoretically puts the cost on visitors. You have to figure they ultimately got their money back. There IMO, is a better place to spend the hotel tax than financing stadiums, but utimately, the state isn't taking a bath on this even though Reinsdorf has quite the deal. excellent. i feel like the song "Money" from pink floyd should be playing in the background on this thread.
  24. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 11, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) By surrounding the park in concrete the Sox really cant even make the argument that they're the driving economic force in the neighborhood. The Chairman really got everything and more. in some remote way, the st and the city will make money. i love the idea of free promo to help bring in more fans. hell make it a family nite with free parking.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Sweetheart deal without a doubt, but they had something the Cubs did not. A viable alternative. The Cubs had zero leverage. This promotion by the White Sox didn't cost the taxpayers anything. They distribute tickets that would have been unsold anyway. And at $29 or $49 per package, and limited packages available, it's not like they are making millions on this. It may inspire some to go to more games later, which would actually help the taxpayers' cause. I haven't seen one article crying about taxpayers with the Wrigley renovation. The Cubs got $8.5 million in property tax breaks. first, re the bold, i really didn't know that. i thought they got squack. thanks for the info. second, i just love the way the mayor's office answered the request. classic
