  1. and therein lies the problem. many will not accept those parameters that the org FO establish as a requirement for the job. does anyone think many teams, outside the sox, have those prerequisite requirement for any employment agreement. to have the FO run the team on the field and the manager to relay the orders or ideas. this is a ridiculous thought, and i am not trying to belittle anyone, but why have a manager??? just install a speaker with a direct line to the FO.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Only if you think all people who work for someone else are puppets. Do you run your own business? If not, your logic makes you a puppet, since you must have a boss at your job. Robin works for Rick. It's that simple. Rick, if he's an effective manager, listens to Robin's views and takes them into account. But when they disagree, Rick rules. That's the way it works in any company. i really have to disagree and here is why. the manager, by all practical purpose runs the team that you see on the field. which is including making the daily roster and if a player is not cutting it. the general manager take any additional input for across all levels and then address what is needed for the org, this is thru FA, trades, or waiver pickups. lets think of it this way, do you think a mike scioscia, if he was applying for the coaches position, will take that crap from the FO???
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) True but Great Team/Awful Marketing is always better than Awful Team/Great Marketing very true in what you wrote, great counter. but let me ask you, is this a generalize statement or is there something you are not mentioning about this team? i am a little confuse. sorry. also there is a caveat to that, this team may not be great, but it is a good team with freaking lousy marketing. only 1 commercial this yr that came out that was great. the one with Jose A promoting the season for the sox. btw, do not do any silly commercials. 1 silly one will ruin all the hard work that has been done.
  4. QUOTE (staxx @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Been reading that Tyler Stephenson is moving up on alot of boards. Any chance that the sox take him at #8? I'd still like to see them take BPA as in Funkhouser/Jay/Fullmer while that is a daring and bold move, and it will address the catching position. here is a question to think about. how long will it take for him to develop to move up??? the sox needs their pick to be challenging for a position in at least 2 yrs. the sox have or will have glaring holes in a yr or 2.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 15, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) When there is a quiet stretch, is he gonna suddenly run into the outfield wall? the thing is, we as fans really have no knowledge on who is out there for this position. i guess we as fans have to trust their opinion.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 15, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) In the White Sox organization the FO tells the manager what's going on. Robin's opinion is surely considered, but at the end of the day, it's Hahn making the decision who is starting/who is on the roster. is it me and my dislike on the way the sox do things or does this sound like a dysfunctional way of doing things??? i mean i want to know the truth, no matter how bad it is. convince me.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) Michah's OPS is only .631. You aren't really sacrificing much offense. ok you may have a point. how bout this, the perceived offense of Micah??
  8. for the diehard. are you willing to sacrifice the offense at second for defense this yr???
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) i am going to be honest here, i am so all over with trying to figure out if he can make the transition to mlb. i am not convince on that point. i should narrow my opinion further, he has talent, that is for sure, but as a sp in the majors? then i am looking for the needs of the team, 3b cat. this idea of continuing to build the pen with arm is great, but that still does not guarantee that the team the sox are trading with, see the player in the same way as the sox. the sox may even loose on this front, b/c the other teams knows the sox maybe a little desperate. for those who follows the draft, if any, beside saying the BPA, what are your thoughts on this draft with the sox at 8. who will be the pick???
  10. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:47 AM) Yep, B. B. King has died. i didn't know that. no wonder, where i eat breakfast, they had a lot of blues music for the last 2 days. i think i am going to listen to some great blues on the internet radio this morning. start of with robert johnson crossroads. yeah. blues this morning.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) GM gets the final say in the roster but the GM rarely goes against what the manager wants. you are right, but in this quasi pseudo environment of the sox FO. who knows who is making the decisions.
  12. can anyone imagine Hawk doing it with someone like me, with the broken english. "hey vato!!! did you see that shiite.... someone should go down there is stick that puto. "
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) Everyone is far away but: Danish, Adams, Luis Martinez, Jordan Guerrero, and Jace Fry for sure. I'm also expecting someone else at pick #8 overall. yes, there are good to great candidates. but who will be able to step in next yr, using next yr as a example to judge.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:28 AM) Nobody besides the iffy possibilities of Erik Johnson and Beck (also more likely a reliever). If you start talking about Winston-Salem, more possibilities but 1 1/2 - 2 seasons away. Actually, other than Fry....not much to be excited about. Dykstra doesn't have overwhelming stuff. Wheeler and Ynoa have their fans, too...but, once again, nobody's projecting Ynoa as a starter anymore. this is me and i will still say, my opinion is based on the fact that i am a huge fan of Adams. he has exciting stuff, now he needs to develop as hope. the sox still has arms to be happy about. i was hoping and still that EJ will turn it around, which he has. but loosing a yr of development time, will that hurt him? Beck i still have faith. but in ref to sp's, esp for the immediate future. i do not know about Montas. Danish, who else can possibly help the team next yr as a starter?? the team is loosing JS, replace with rodon, Hector moves back to the rotation?? any other ideas, outside going the FA rt?
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 15, 2015 -> 07:55 AM) I don't know what thread we are supposed to put this talk in now, but I'll just randomly choose this one I guess... Carson Fulmer's final start of the regular season before the draft went pretty well.... CG, 2 H, 1 R, 14 K. He allowed 2 hits in the 1st inning....and no hits after that. I think he secured himself as the NCAA strikeout king. 132 Ks in 95 IP. No one has put up 132 or more Ks in 14 starts or less since Marcus Stroman in 2012. A 12.42 K/9, which hasn't been seen since........Carlos Rodon in 2013 when he had a 12.51 K/9. Not bad company for Mr. Fulmer. Kylie McDaniel thinks he's a no-brainer top 10 pick. i am going to be honest here, i am so all over with trying to figure out if he can make the transition to mlb. i am not convince on that point. i should narrow my opinion further, he has talent, that is for sure, but as a sp in the majors? then i am looking for the needs of the team, 3b cat. this idea of continuing to build the pen with arm is great, but that still does not guarantee that the team the sox are trading with, see the player in the same way as the sox. the sox may even loose on this front, b/c the other teams knows the sox maybe a little desperate.
  16. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) On Thibs, I could see the Pelicans definitely giving up a 1st rounder for him, but I'm not sure if Orlando would. But it depends for Gar/Pax whether they think there's a better coach (well one who would work with them any better) out there. Fred Hoiberg has obviously been mooted, but it's a risk with College Coach although they are becoming more and more "trendy hires" with Donovan and Stevens as 2 examples. Gasol's injury really became a killer blow for the Bulls in the end, I think if he had stayed healthy, the likelihood of there being a 7 game series would have been much greater. injuries have killed the bulls for how long??? i had high hope for this team. now for the long waited death watch on Thibs ...... when is he going to move?? which team would be interested??? Pelicans not a bad idea. my point is i like Thibs. i would deal, if able some of the players. but that is me.
  17. here is what i am seeing but mostly what i am thinking. how many posters were happy to see Micah go north with the team? now of those, how many are saying it was a bad move b/c of his defense? i know i was making this a rhetorical question, but why change sides. bottom line he is in the minors and hopefully will not be damage from this. now re: Sanchez. this one i am serious about. how many 2b have it all, defense, offense and avg? not many, Sanchez can be a good serviceable 2b, the kind that is worth sacrificing for his defense. i would embrace that, he will be helping in a huge way, solidifying the infield, maybe even to a point, games will be won. again, little steps to righting this team.
  18. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 14, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) The marketing is easier and always looks better when the team is winning. very much true. but it is great when the team is avg and there is a smart marketing. help promote the product, that is if the team is good to market.
  19. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) I couldn't agree more. Get rid of the pre and post game host too. I really hate to hear radio hosts berate and be rude to fans. Dude, you have the power. If a caller is rude, dump him and move on to the next caller. The entire WSCR station reeks of Bernstein. it was maybe ok in the beginning, more like the 90's with the howard stern bullcrap. now it is too much and too old and too boring...
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) I know this conversation has been had before and all, but THIS seems like a Kenny Williams move. Give a guy a vote of confidence one day, bench him the next, and send to to Charlotte the day after? Yeah, that doesn't sound like Rick Hahn at all. i will walk a thin line here. the org move on keeping him up is a move normal for the FO will do, but a move to get the fans involve. that is all i will try to say.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) Welcome to the real world. The Sox are more interested in protecting their product then they are with telegraphing every single move they make. Why in the world would they go to the media to tell them where they are looking to make a move? Why would you give that kind of power to the other 29 teams in MLB? outstanding!!!! btw, i really thought of it that way.
  22. not an overly fan of this draft. if anything just reading material on how others see the prospects. http://www.thesportsbank.net/basewars-chic...mlb-mock-draft/
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 13, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) Right but he would have been our 2B, and if he's been worse than Micah, it sure can't be by much. I'm not suggesting renegging the trade or anything, I was just shocked at how well he's hitting. nice post, i was not a fan of this trade, then, but i can understand the reasoning. it just didn't panned out as hoped.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 14, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) Not personally a fan of doing it this early, but I certainly see the other side. Right now the team is struggling defensively and Micah just isn't there yet on that side of the ball. I would have played it out longer, but I'm not upset either. Sanchez was red hot in Charlotte, though he's fallen off the last few games. Defensively he's a big upgrade right away of course. I hope he gets full time play though, and that is my concern - they may play Beckham and/or Bonifacio so much that Sanchez doesn't get regular time, which is the wrong move IMO. the voice of reasons. great post. my hope is Micah doesn't take this to heart and goes into a deep funk like davidson did last yr.
  25. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 14, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) I think I actually read that once before. The catcher is the only fielder allowed to be in foul territory when the pitch is delivered. excellent, on knowing that. for me, i am honestly saying in never knew that rule. i never knew that rule even existed. i really want to give props to the umb. great call.
