  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) Yeah, doing it once is really risky and Brady Aiken just lived a worst case scenario happening to him. Is he willing to risk it again? If he were, I would imagine he would have told teams not to draft him, that he was going to go the college and play instead. if he has faith in himself and the medicals, why not. the difference is millions of dollars.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Matt. Harrington. wow, excellent. a blast from the past.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:06 PM) Hahn could have added Russell Martin and Volquez to this team, and they'd still be mediocre at this point. No way anyone could have imagined about 85% of the roster underachieving at this point. you do have a great point. i esp was spouting on Volquez. but the other part is the abysmal beginning this team had. i am trying to think this out, if the sox had picked up a pitcher, Volq and a cat, could this team have started out differently??? i hate to say this, and its not b/c i want to pounce on him..... it goes to RV and the FO and how much they had in this recipe.
  4. i personally think that there is one sentence that has not been mention, i think. the fans frustration for the sox FO for not finishing off the job. i really think many fans, without really knowing it, are more upset at that, b/c many saw the rebuild of the team. with the way the team started and with Sale being hurt. is it the FO responsibility for not obtaining more pieces?
  5. lets keep all things in perceptive. the sox will never overcome the northside team. they have too much appeal, too much tradition and their location is ideal. the sox, screwed up when they were building the new park. they screwed up on hiring cronies, mismanagement and little to no foresight in over taking the city after the WS. oh and the reason for that and many more is the dysfunctional way of operating the org. every bodies has opinions, just remember it is my opinion that matters most.
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) I am a diehard Sox fan, but I do not have blind loyalty to all things JR. Fans have right to support team or not in any way they choose. good counter. i too am a die hard and with that, i think i am among those who has been harsh on the owners and the FO. i even hate to say this, but i was again proven right. oh i wish i was wrong. but the point is, being a fan doesn't mean one has to have blind faith, does it??
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:21 PM) I wouldn't book it at all. The won the division in 2008 and attendance was lower than the 90 loss team in 2007. They were in first place most of 2012 and attendance was lower than the 2011 disappointment. Maybe winning the WS is a curse. Being in first place, making the playoffs doesn't have the same effect it used to create. ok that is kool, i will accept your opinion. now answer me these questions, how many showed up for the playoff and the world series?? the yr after, what was the attendance like?? this team, this yr, had the momentum going for them, then they lost it. for whatever reason is not revellent, but if they would have strung out a couple of winning streak, it would have been a different story.
  8. if the sox team, in any yr, make the playoff, the sox fans who has been quietly suffering, will come out. BOOK IT.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 26, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) on the bright side.... anyone? yeah, maybe the FO is starting to get really pissed off . i kind of love it when management gets a real bad case of reflux.
  10. but also the farm should start producing as hope. i am a firm believer in getting the right person both on the field and in the FO, while building the farm.
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 26, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) This team has so much more talent (on paper) then the 2012 team. That's why people are upset. That team was held together with duct tape and wire and depends for the all the veterans. This team was supposed to compete and right now they aren't competing. They have the worst differential in the AL. That's unacceptable. I'd have fired RV weeks ago but you all know that. whether i agree or not is not my answer. i am thinking, if they, the fo did contemplate firing RV, normally during a season, one is not going to find a replacement manager. if anything an interim it would be. so who??
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 26, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) I am starting to think the team just doesn't buy into Ventura. How else can you explain the lackadaisical performances? b/c $$$$$$$$$$$$
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 08:44 PM) Since the "reign of terror" started when JR bought the team in 1981, the Rangers have won 5 division titles and 2686 games. The White Sox have won 5 division titles and 2770 games and a WS. It has been better to be a White Sox fan than Rangers fan. how many games and series has Miami won since its inception?? the total part is a dysfunctional fo with some screwed ideas on cronyism, that ruined many a chances for a run of the world series.
  14. QUOTE (gatnom @ May 26, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) My point is that there are some posters on here who seem to blame the fans for not attending enough games to provide enough money for this team to be successful. This team absolutely has enough resources to be successful, moribund fan base or not. The guys in charge have just failed at scouting and/or developing their players, which has lead to our one playoff appearance since 2005. I liked the off season, fwiw. there is only 1 person or 1 group that blame the fans and their lack of attendance, that was the sox org in the beginning of the off season, before Hahn went out and spent more money on players. if i remember correctly, it was when the sox had invested something like 95+ mil.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Here's the question. We've got >10 major positions that are underperforming. LF, CF, 1B (i don't know why you didn't include that), 3b, SS, 3 starting pitchers, 2b, and C, in addition to the weak bench spots. That's not the way its supposed to work. Some guys are supposed to get better, other guys are not. You're not supposed to have 90% of the starting lineup of a team dramatically underperform just by random chance. a very good point. but lets use a visualization to demonstrate this point. how many of this current team players are batting over 270, 240??? now answer this, why??? if someone is going to mention who, then answer why that is the case.
  16. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 26, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) I think there is an important question. This looks like a .500 team which many of us predicted. But there were other fans who projected 90 wins and are now ranting about everything being wrong. I think the big question is Robin. How big of a problem is he and his staff. If Robin is a big problem then you make minor moves and maybe Shark gets moved since he would be gone anyway. Maybe LaRoche can also be moved but probably as a salary dump with little return. You can't trade Alexei because you probably don't have an adequate replacement. If you want a catcher, the only tradeable assets are probably pitching i.e Q?? But that opens another hole. If Robin is not the main problem, then you need to blow up some more of the roster and continue the rebuild shooting for 2017. yeah i am one who thought this team is a 90 winner. the thing is, you have several problems in play. so with the proverbial domino effect, the sox didn't finish addressing the needs of the team. next comes the injury to sale. and without a viable replacement, help started the downfall. lack of hitting and as many have said, RV not coming to the front in certain game situations. fo coming forth, to the press to defend RV. ets...... the point is can you blow up the team?? yes. is it wise?? no what will be the easy to do?? fire the manager. whether he deserves it or not.
  17. i wonder when they are going to make a movie out of this. here is a major incident in sidney Aus that was made into a movie Bandidos vs Comancheros. the campbell brothers of the Bandidos were the baddest of all Aus, bikie world. http://aussiecriminals.com.au/2012/05/15/t...perra-massacre/
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) you and rabbitt make an excellent point esp with visual references. does anyone can see those players trying to carry this team in a playoff???? come on, the sox need to add 1 or 2 extra pitcher, and a catcher. this team has the freaking horses to carry this team in the post season. dang it, can't everyone see that! i think i may have screwed up. i am a diehard sox fan, and i sometimes get a little too passionate about the sox's. so if i offended anyone, pls accept my apologizes i didn't mean it to be personal.
  19. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) I don't see what is interesting about those quotes. This team is playing like s*** and they acknowledged it. if they acknowledge it with any inner fire or without getting pissed, then there is something dysfunctional happen.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Basically what happens is the entire future of the White Sox would hinge on Garcia and Rodon becoming immediate leaders because of the remaining players, Beckham is the only one I'd see with leadership qualities/veteran presence and that's not gonna work out. You'd have this (not accounting for influx of prospects) Rodon Danks Noesi Carroll Beck Bullpen - clusterf*** of assorted arms 1B - Conor 2B - Johnson SS - Sanchez 3B - Beckham LF - Coats/Saladino CF - Thompson RF - Garcia C - Whatever corpse you want to bring up. you and rabbitt make an excellent point esp with visual references. does anyone can see those players trying to carry this team in a playoff???? come on, the sox need to add 1 or 2 extra pitcher, and a catcher. this team has the freaking horses to carry this team in the post season. dang it, can't everyone see that!
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) On that note... If people in here want to blow it up it doesn't mean just trading Samardzjia, Robertson, Melky, Robertson and Duke. It means trading those five, Sale, Q, Abreu, Eaton, Alexei. Everyone but Rodon and Garcia would be for sale. Sure, you'd have the top system in baseball, but that's all you'll get because free agents wouldn't sign here and players like Sale, Quintana and Eaton would be far less inclined to sign team-friendly deals. I don't want to see that happen. you make an excellent point, let me add this, every team needs that special, lets say, special player, a spark to get the team to be in the same page. if the sox blows up the team, misses out by trade that spark in Sale, Abreu, Robertson, who knows who will step up to take on that leadership role.
  22. QUOTE (gatnom @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) My point is more that the White Sox don't need any more resources to win games: they're already supporting a top half payroll without skimping on amateur spending (refusing to game the international market notwithstanding). Management (Hahn and KW) just hasn't effectively used its resources for the last decade, and it shows. with all due respect, i could care less about the last decade. they, the sox FO has to find an aggressive fix to get this team going.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) I just think there is a huge distortion in how people view the manager and coaches effects on players. These are major leaguers, they are supposed to know how to play by the time they arrive. They aren't a bunch of 7 year olds needing constant instruction. They fire managers, but if you really look at it, the team doesn't significantly improve, or will eventually start playing like they were supposed to, so it looks like the right decision because many think it would never happen under the old manager. The Dodgers were supposedly ready to fire Mattingly a couple of years ago, but didn't and they got tremendously hot. If they would have fired him and the same thing happened, he would have been the fool. You have to expect White Sox hitters to eventually start hitting normally, and they will win more games. It hasn't been their style to make a coach or manager a sacrificial lamb, but maybe this year they do. If the players then start playing to their averages, the move looks good, although it probably happens without the change. again, you have a point, i may not agree or totally agree with it, but that is on me. sometimes managers get fired, to jump start the team, or sometimes b/c the team is not responding to him. something needs to jump start this team. name the remedy to get this team going.
  24. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) This is definitely sad to watch and I think whoever said it has it right when they say that this is it as long as we're in the JR/KW era. As I've said before, the Sox need a Hawks-like reboot as happened when old man Wirtz died and Rocky took over. And while I don't like the Ricketts, you can't deny they got the big-name talent both on the field and on the managerial side so they're doing pretty much everything you'd want to get a winner. We seem to be simply offering different variations of a formula that hasn't worked really at all in the past decade, since the glorious 2005. during the season, it may not happen, maybe in the off season. but get a manager, even if it is going outside the org. get a manager, new coaches, get new coaches for the minor league as well, if it is needed. i do like the sox hitting coach, but that is now at this moment.
  25. QUOTE (gatnom @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) The White Sox are spending enough money to win right now. They just don't spend it on the right guys. Also, it honestly sounds like you're mad at bandwagon fans... for acting like bandwagon fans. i may be beating this drum, but i still think that positional players the sox got can do it. i now have no faith in the coaches / manager.
