  1. i really wanted to see how Beck reacted to everything. the game on the majors is sooo much different. i think he did ok. i also think the first game in the majors played into it with pump up hype in his pitching. i also think he will get use to it, with more rep on the majors in the future. lastly, he now can go the minors and know he has the stuff to make it, all he needs to due is get more developmental reps. but as i also said, what in hades do i know????
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) If that's true then we're getting terribly bad offers for him. A single comp pick/the slight increase in associated money really isn't that great of a haul. It can be decent & helpful but its far enough back that there's >50% chance the guy never sees the big leagues. Keenyn Walker was probably a fair comp pick - guy with skills who was raw & never turned out for us. i am going to play the devils advocate. unless the sox owners and FO are really afraid of pulling the trade. 1. the team has finally turned it around or appears to have turned it around. 2. afraid that the fans will really abandoned the sox.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 29, 2015 -> 05:04 PM) Alexei needs to get his act together. I never expected him to replicate last season (which is why he should have been moved in December) but putting on clown shows really depresses value. I like Laroche and think he has a lot of value; I also think we cannot go through another season with both Garcia and Cabrera in the OF, so one of those guys can DH. If no one will pay his value, keep him. Are we going to get elite prospects for these guys? No. But we have a hard time finding basic competence at positions, so we might be able to really improve. not when there is no, and i mean no certified replacement to take over that position. i am talking about the defense. again i will use this word. the org ASSUME that the org had a replacement for other positions and found out, that was not the case. making a trade is ok, when the org knows that it was protected, but when that is not the case, how many games would be lost for that error in misjudgement.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2015 -> 04:39 PM) And yet Ozzie was always blamed for his Sunday line-ups. The irony is that he actually utilized his bench extremely well...and it paid off handsomely quite often. Ventura hasn't had the same level of bench talent to utilize, so it's harder to make comparisons. I do wonder if they have warned him about playing Alexei too often...of course, once again, with options like Leury Garcia or Olmedo, you can understand the hesitancy. i thought he would have learned his lesson with Sale last yr.
  5. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 29, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) And to think Houston could have had McCullers and Rodon in their rotation. Thanks again Houston and go Sox! oh and i can see Rodon agent borAss asking the world in his salary demands.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) I don't think everyone in the world thought it was an overpay, and reality is starting to set in for Semien. He obviously still has good offensive numbers, but he has dropped about 70 points off his OPS the last couple of weeks, and now up to 18 errors. If he had 18 errors for the White Sox, he would be getting skewered here. the majority of those errors are at what position. the main reasoning behind that was, and i am sure, the thought of Micah and sanchez taking a regular at bat in the majors.
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ May 29, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) Not arbitrary at all. It was thought out and specifically included, not by random chance. So again, what conclusion should we make about laws in respect to Waco? People keep saying "see the laws didn't work". OK, if you say the laws didn't work why can't anyone state how they would judge a law that does work? No one has been able to answer that. They just create a premise that since criminals broke they law, the law isn't working. again, you are trying to take an incident and mold it for an agenda you are trying to make. i really can't see it. Russia during the height of the cold war. they, Russia who has extremely tough law on crime and criminals still had that illegal activity and criminals. bottom line pls don't take the waco incident to paint it all in one color. b/c there will always be an illegal side of society. i am thru here.
  8. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ May 28, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) Yes those 2 will get a larger return but it's also what teams are willing to give up to get them. The Phillies don't have to trade Hamels and they are trying to hold a kings ransom for him. Cueto could net alot but seeing how the reds will also lose leake they might be more inclined to try to keep cueto. Some of the other top pitchers that are free agents are on teams that are competing so they won't get dealt and others aren't pitching as well. The sox should get at least a teams top 10 prospect back for shark. Probably not a 1-5 but 6-10 could be doable. i just love that picture of the sox logo and stuff on the white house. yessss.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) What is funny is someone actually thinks the Bulls aren't loyal to their players, yet the President is John Paxson. The special assistant is Scottie Pippen. Wasn't Gar Forman Tim Floyd's assistant coach? Many ex Bulls have been assistant coaches and Bill Cartwright even was the head coach. And if Fred Hoiberg is hired...........former Bull. Of course this type of loyalty is only frowned upon to a point. The people who complain the loudest about it many times are the same ones who think Frank Thomas should be the White Sox hitting coach. great post. jr is loyal and sometime it can damage the org and pov. re big frank. i never heard of that. many thanks for the that tidbit.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) I just think they like him. And for me, I don't care that firing him may not turn around the season. But for me he is not a manager making this team better, and I'm not personally invested in his career, so, congrats on being privileged with being an MLB manager but the team sucked under you. and that is the plain cold hard facts. a manager will find ways to motivate a team and players.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) It's not a country club. Robin rips on players just not for you to watch: a real nice post and find. my problem is not the handling of the players, but some of his decisions made during a game.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) Because he doesn't want to. i don't know if that is the real answer. but i think that person is not in the sox org nor was he a player for the sox. but i do like your answer.
  13. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) Not sure how Chicago media is reacting since I live in New England. But national media is trashing Jerry on the Bulls fiasco. My gut says he won't touch Robin now until the off-season when the Bulls attention has died down. that is a great question. i too would like to know that answer.
  14. battle of the rookies. this is a game that i really will follow.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:04 AM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/127224678/sh...-prospects-list Update of the top-line rankings on the MLB International Prospects list. Sox one of 11 teams connected to Martinez. Alvarez remains the pitcher everyone wants. Weren't the White Sox also connected to Jhailyn Ortiz, the #6 guy? if i remember correctly, they were interested as well.
  16. QUOTE (beautox @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) I don't think the sox pass on Jay or Fulmer if they're there, If both are gone i'm not opposed to Tyler Stephensen or Happ. i don't know. Stephensen will take several more yrs to develop. this system will be needing to start producing replacement players soon. i am looking at a timetable of 2 yrs in needing to see a rtn. the pitching group the system has now, is closest to start adding players to the parent club, maybe as of next yr. that still doesn't fix the holes the main team has already. those need to be address in other ways.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2015 -> 01:38 AM) From what mocks I've seen, there won't be a pg or c worth a damn when the Bulls pick. I'm a big Rondae Hollis-Jefferson fan. Ideal wing size with freakish athleticism/length. He's got all-league defensive potential. Of course, his jumpshot/3-point shooting is lacking. I'd love it if the Bulls picked him. i would like to add this, whomever the bulls have as an idea to coach, will have some input. i like the possibility of the kids from kentucky-booker, utah-wright or even that kid from norte dame. i just see them have a real need at pg. too bad they don't have their other 1 rounder which reverted back to the kings on the protected top 10. on another topic, i really wonder if FH - will coach the team, i wonder who will be the assistants.
  18. until i hear anything concrete from anymore twitter or sports link. i would like to talk about something that been on my mind since the season ended. the draft. at their pick, who will the bulls select?? pg or center?? any other thoughts of other positions??
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 28, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) I'd take Stephenson, but as McDaniel suggested, they would still likely go to college pitcher in Jon Harris. fastest to the majors.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 28, 2015 -> 05:47 PM) I havent heard Stephenson's name come up near enough. I would love that pick. and speak of the devil. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ May 28, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) Then what is your point? I have said again and again that criminals break laws. That's not a reason to eliminate laws. you are just arbitrarily saying that .......... and that is not a realistic idea. the ability of getting, in this case weapons, has nothing to do with laws of waco or tx. many of these weapons were brought to the fight. the location was nothing of an incidental location.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 28, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) Hugo is ok. Kinda dull. I don't really see how it can be compared to TomorrowLand though. i wouldn't know, i never saw Hugo.
  23. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 28, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) Good points Balta. Hamels comes with control through the 18 season with an option for 19 which surely adds value as long he continues to perform. LDF, I think you and just see things a bit differently. I really hope you're right as far as Sharks value. you haven't realize, i live in the world in my mind. i really never knew of shark and his horrible beginning of the season stats. those stats were brought up on this site and i was made aware of it thru the advance stats. but the value is what is worth for the team who is buying. the sox gave up a lot for his services. i just can't see loosing in a trade to get rid of him. just my opinion.
  24. QUOTE (Tex @ May 28, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) I agree. Are you suggesting that any law that does not stop illegal activity should be dropped? haha.... nice trying to putting words in my posts. i am not going there.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 4h4 hours ago The #Marlins talked about bringing back Ozzie Guillen to manage team, Ron Washington and Dusty too, before Jennings. http://usat.ly/1HMniS0 why not, they are paying a crap load of money to do nothing. all that crap that he was involve in must have died away by now.
