  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:46 AM) Defense up the middle is fine either way. 3rd base becomes a hole and Conors bat isn't good enough to make up for it. Yes, I start Gordo at third for his glove alone. they are times a club may need to necessitate a change in the team whether that is to send a msg or to jump start it. either way, that move is necessary at this time. i do hate the fact of 2 weaker bats in lineup, but the coach needs to keep the score close for the hitters.
  2. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 30, 2015 -> 10:27 PM) I love what I have been reading about Tyler Jay and Carson Fulmer. Dillon Tate as well. Maybe it's my way of thinking, but I would love the Sox to just pick Tyler Stephenson just to give them a challenge to develop this guy, at a premium position, to prove doubters wrong that they can develop big league talented hitters consistently. The Sox DID help to develop hitters like Thomas, Ventura, Baines, Ray Durham, Aaron Rowand, Joe Crede...you could also say to some small degree that they have helped to develop Jose Abreu and Alexei Ramirez. I realize that the track record of the White Sox isn't great at all regarding developing hitters. But, if you have this kind of talent at a premium position to select, why not? If the Sox have their choice of Jay, Fulmer, Tate, Stephenson, or even Benintendi; that will make my day. I would personally be ecstatic if they chose Stephenson, but I understand it is, and should be, best player available on their draft board. who was the GM that drafted them?? who were the coaches in the minors at the time?? this sounded as i was being a jerk, i didn't mean to, the point is they were not KW selections. here is some of my concerns. in the past couple of weeks, the blogs have been mentioning how Tate is now going 5+ innings. Tate was a rp and then converted to sp. so is he tired or is the real makeup of him is as a rp who was stretch. some are saying that is why he may be dropping a little. now whether that is true or not.... i do not know. i depend on the mocks and blogs just like everyone else. also, was this person telling the truth.... who knows. as with Tate the same goes with Jay, do mlb really draft a closer in the top 15 let alone top 8?? the sox have rp / closer covered already and maybe in the future with Montas. lastly do you want a top 8 on a prep who may or may not developed as hoped. cough cough .... Hawkins.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2015 -> 10:24 PM) Jacob May or Mike Jacobs? sorry, this is on me for not fully writing out the name. i forgot about Jacob May. i meant the other Jacobs.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) This is not necessarily the case. There are many injuries that truly are day to day. The tendonosis and other tendon irritations can't always be predicted. He injures it, there is no structural tears, so they give it a try. That is normal protocol. It didn't improve/got worse that is when you need to rest it for a bit. in the medical sense, ok. but i am talking about tweak knees, jammed shoulders, twisted ankles. rest it. take a day or 2 to see how it looks. i am not talking about ingrown nails in a finger or toes, a sore gluteal muscles for sliding the wrong way. sports players do not like to be substituted.
  5. is this really a thread that will make any difference, esp with the current ownership?? we as fans always needs to see the sunny side of everything. for starters. if there is such a thing, hire a independent expert who can really audit this team from the FO on down. really get a real perspective of this org and how it is running. while that is taking place, trade for assets that can fill holes that will not be available in FA's rt. sacrifice this season to continue to rebuild all those hitters who are hitting below 250, this team needs to figure out why? why?? why??? why!!! someone philosophy in the sox org is not working, can it be change?? will it be change???
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 30, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Sox have scouted Tate at the beginning of the year and he was throwing in the mid 90's deep into the game. Much like Jay, Tate was used exclusively out of the pen in his first two college years. Jay and Tate were looked at as top 50 prospects that were being held back because they weren't starting. Tate got put in the rotation at the beginning of this season only because an inferior pitcher, UCSB's initial Friday night pitcher, went down to injury. I think Tate struggling lately is a result of this being his first season starting. He has a great arm, a good pitcher's frame and great athletic ability. If he were to slip to #8, a trendy idea right now, he would be a great value to the Sox. What is interesting is these mocks we have seen haven't really considered Tate falling to the Sox so there hasn't been any chatter about how the Sox feel about him. I know that some in the Sox org are very fond of Tate. I just don't think he gets past Minnesota. 1.) Arizona - 2.) Houston - 3.) Colorado - 4.) Texas - 5.) Houston - 6.) Minnesota - 7.) Boston - 8.) Sox - I think it's a lock that Rodgers, Swanson and Bregman go before the Sox pick. So that leaves four picks that we are not sure of with players like Tate, Jay, Fulmer, Benintendi, Tucker and Daz Cameron being the most likely. With nine days to go, this is how I would guess it goes. 1.) Arizona - Swanson 2.) Houston - Rodgers 3.) Colorado - Jay 4.) Texas - Bregman/Tate 5.) Houston - Cameron/Tate 6.) Minnesota - Bregman/Tate 7.) Boston - Benintendi/Fulmer 8.) Sox - So it seems to me like it's getting to the point where it looks like we won't get one of Tate, Jay or Fulmer at #8. The Texas pick at #4 is a big question mark messing up a lot of mocks. I think the best case scenario for the Sox is Tucker going somewhere 4-6 and the Red Sox preferring Benintendi over Fulmer. a great analysis esp the bold. nice!!! my take 1.) Arizona - Swanson-ss 2.) Houston - college pitcher (they were just looking for a pitching help) 3.) Colorado - pitcher top avail / rodgers-ss (they need pitching help in the system) 4.) Texas - pitcher 5.) Houston - Tucker 6.) Minnesota - bergman / benintendi (they wouldn't mind a top prep here) 7.) Boston - bergman / pitching 8.) Sox -
  7. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 30, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) I don't think it's a contradiction LDF. Pretty much everybody is hurt all year and they are all playing through their aches & pains. I know us Chicago fans take knee injuries extra seriously I don't think it's as big of a deal as we think with Avi. Somebody in the game thread said he's starting in RF so I imagine this might be the last we ever hear about Avi's knee, God-willing! aches and pains are 1 thing, but when somebody has problems walking for jogging, you, as the person in charge, should play it safe. esp early in the season. a day or 2 rest and see how it responds. again esp in the early part of the season. btw, no offense but who cares what anyone says in a game thread. i am talking about the sox, the team and the whole org. does this mean i want the manager to play it safe on all players with all kind of aches and pains. no but using common sense is called for.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ May 30, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) With a top 10 pick and slot to burn and only 8 picks in the first 10 rounds, look for Chicago to take a safe RHP at 8 and follow him up with overslot picks in the later rounds, similar to Montes De Oca last year My Final Mock for next week: 1.8. Walker Buehler, RHP, Vandy 4.112. Rhett Wiseman, LF, Vandy 5.142. Grayson Long, RHP, TAMU 6.172. Tyler Ferguson, RHP, Vandy Late round fliers: Jamies Winston, RHP, FSU Octavio Arroyo, RHP, CA-HS We need a C with a bat already too, but not realstic for us to pick one early with the 4 rounder and later, i would really think about infielders and catcher position.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 30, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) This sums it all up nicely. I don't know why people are ignoring the fact that we have a wonderful medical staff paid enormous sums of money. Avi AND the entire staff thought he could play through it so they tried. Didn't happen. Wtf is there to second guess? I mean, the staff and Avi didn't have the benefit of hindsight at the time, which makes everything easier to analyze. isn't that a contradiction. the medical staff says yeah he ok and then he wounds up aggravating it more. ah with that, i think i would get a second medical staff to work there. but the other part is, it would have been great if someone in authority would have said, yeah, but i will still rest him and let the backup play some.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) Peavy had a 2nd year on his contract as well when he was traded, so he was an asset the Red Sox could use for 1.333 years. Samardzija is a 2 month rental. there is some teams that does pay good for a 2 month rental.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:39 PM) We should listen to the guy with a 5th grade education. Dr. Ozzie. Sit for omeday, problem solved. Besides, you said Abreu is a tick above average. How would that be a big loss? ahh it is just plain and simple Thib's fault.
  12. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) Peter Vecsey ‏@PeterVecsey1 11m11 minutes ago Thibodeau-Pelicans update: both parties r showing interest in each other, I'm now told. Not 2 say coaching job is his, but things hv changed i hope Thibs does a no comment on any questions concerning the Bulls and the FO.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 30, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) Recap posted. excellent write up.
  14. Davidson and Hawkins..... i just don't know. i like Christian Marrero stats so far. at 28 anything to get excited here?? WS-Dash, not much to excited about except for me this Jacobs kid Trey is there as well. Kanny - Brett Austin-c kind of drop off the radar.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 30, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) The problem with this strategy is that in order to make it worth your while, you have to just go all out, spend an insane amount of money, which the Sox likely don't have nor would do. You can't just go over the bonus limit by $500,000. To make it worth losing the next two years of major international signings, you have to blow past by millions, IMO. i agree, this is the best quick fix to rebuild the farm system. yeah there will be problems with this kind of quick fix, #1 will be, will all the prospect fully develop, #2 the cost of spending and the cost of the prospect not developing. i can justify it by saying this, whose fault is it that the system is lacking real prospects except the few in the top?
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) Anybody know if Scott Boras is the agent to be for any of the top picks? i was waiting to see the draft time. they the prospects will let anyone know who their advisers are. but that is a great question, at least for me.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 30, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) It is just common sense. Don't listen to the medical people if they don't include the magic cure all day. maybe it was all on Avi. maybe he just told them he was ok. this is where the manager should override anyone and took him out anyway. like yesterday move on conor, RV just was aggressive.
  18. QUOTE (Condor13 @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:03 AM) Gutsy pitching there by Rodon to not give up a run after the leadoff double nice to learn on the fly. i wonder if they start the pen up now.
  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:47 AM) Yeah Conor is suppose to mash RHP. His defense sucks and he can't hit LHP so it was an easy call. but i see this as a positive thing from RV, no letting this go by.
  20. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 30, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) Scott Skiles gets hired by Orlando. I don't know if Hennigan really even wanted him, it was more so from the owners the Devos Family that Skiles had to come in as the new coach (being a former favourite and all). Now the interesting part will be to see what happens with Tobias Harris here, those 2 did not get along whatsoever during their time in Milwaukee. a real nice insight, something new to remember. i like it.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:44 AM) Shocked he pinch hit in the 5th. Maybe Conor's D pissed off Robin? good, then the manager did the right thing. in a timely matter. good job.
  22. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 30, 2015 -> 02:35 AM) I mentioned it because I saw a story that he wanted to make a comeback and the Bulls and Pelicans were two of the top teams. He graduated from Iowa State so there is a correlation between Hoiberg and White. Not sure what the Bulls want to do for the draft since I'm not a fan of them. oh, my bad, i just took what you mention on post #11158 as someone you knew somebody in the FO.... whew that was a mouth full to write.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:25 AM) 3rd (Toews) and 1st (Kane) and with Kane, there were huge discussions on trading him for other players. my last point in this. good scouting and decision making from the GM.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) Anderson hurt? Trey M. slumping no offense here. maybe you are the lucky rabbits foot. but keep on talking bad about the players. maybe they will hit a couple more bombs.
  25. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:25 AM) If Hoiberg joins the Bulls, do you think or even want Royce White joining Chicago? totally unrelated. any ideas of their intentions on this yr draft??
