  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 11, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) Tax subsidies for sports teams are almost never a good investment for taxpayers and although an "indirect subsidy" this setup seems a particularly egregious example. I'm sure the locals can fill in the blanks how exactly did such a deal come to fruition? What son did JR promise to marry off? i think everyone knows that this was one charm sweetheart deal the sox got, look what happen when the northsiders tried to get something similar.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 11, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) Keith Law and Kiley McDaniel have pretty solid intel. I'd be surprised if it's not a college pitcher for the White Sox and i will respect what you are stating, but they are never wrong??? are you going to every mock draft site to say the same thing? jeeze, it is suppose to be fun. relax a little.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Ladies and Gentlemen, let's give it up for the State of Illinois.
  4. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 11, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Just wondering, do you guys think Beckham's hit was just lucky or would you say he did what he wanted to do there? i think both, he had an idea, but got lucky. either way i will take it.
  5. if the sox does do it, it would be a great promo and helps build up the fan base. one can even say it is a fan appreciation thank you from the owners., even at $5.00 will be a great price.
  6. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ May 11, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) What I want to see and what we will see are two different stories. They want Rodon at 140-160IP this season. They also want to possibly keep him fresh if we go to the playoffs ... (That if ship is sailing quick). I think I read the other week if he were to start from here on out and average 6 innings a start that basically he'll hit 180IP. So simple math, he needs about 4-6 starts more in the bullpen. So my most likely guess is that come June 1 or so we'll see him in the rotation. My suggestion is: We've all watched a bunch of Sox games, no? Is it not sometimes obvious when Danks or Noesi is having a bad start? Generally by inning 2 we can see where the ship is sailing. I think the same with Carroll. When his sinker is working hes actually pretty reliable. When it's not, hes hardly effective at all. I wouldn't mind seeing a very flexible back of the rotation -- start by committee type of thing. Have Sale, Shark, Q, Rodon --- and the 5th spot by who's hot. Throw in Danks as the 5. When he is not on his game? Pull him quickly and throw in Noesi or Carroll. If they are effective they get the next start. you are going to need more sp's to cover when you use the whole pen.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) We only have one potential impact SS (both offensively and defensively), and that's Tim Anderson. If we can tolerate his learning curve at the major league level. The problem is that we're going to be skipping a year in development if we push him too fast to Chicago...of course, on the other hand, breaking him into the big league line-up in 2017 (assuming Alexei's gone or moved to 2B) puts a rookie at a critical middle infield position in the heart of the oncoming "competitive window." i think offensively he can do it, but with his overall develop, i will trust the coaches opinion.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) Whoa. Good luck to the guy. If he approaches life with anywhere near the determination he did baseball, he will be very successful, both as a father, and in a career. i was hoping he would make it, i like his work like approach. best of luck
  9. Ok for starters, there were quite a few players who got hurt in the beginning of the season or during. Of those I am going to mention that some may not have realize or known about. 1. Tyler Stephenson – cat – prep – came back early most already know of him. 2. Jake Lemoine – sp – college – hurt his should was ranked #9 coming into the season, still no surgery, no further info., 3. Kendall Rogers – sp – college – acl injury. Rtn unknown. 4. Kep Brown – of – prep. Predicted if all went well, should have made the 1 round. A better version of Chris Shaw. Another name that was an exciting prep player just removed his name for the mlb draft. This player is Kyler Murray – ss – predicted to be a 1 rounder. He is predicted to be a 1 rounder in football…. Multi talented player. Now, another thing that is being discussed, the wild card, UNDER SLOT agreements with the players, as of thursday their was talked of just Arz and their #1 pick. But there is discussion that Hou and Col are thinking the same. This is going to throw a huge monkey wrench into the mechanism. So I see, if true, most of the mock draft up to now as being nothing but good reading. Arz – either .T. Stephenson – cat – prep or G. Whitley – of – prep, tough choice Hou – they need infielder - Dansby Swanson – ss – college Cou - I thought Brendan Rodgers – ss – prep, but now I don’t know if it a prep SP Tex – if Rodgers is there is not, D. Tate – sp – college Hou – here I s the underslot deal, so who will it be, Cameron, Tucker – preston brother, hou outfielder, or Chris Bettis, cat- prep, surprise name here . Minny – who in hades know. No word out of their camp. A college SP or Of . Bos. – either Bergman - ss or Buehler – sp – both college. Sox - under slot. pick Donnie Dewees - of - college, tied for the ncaa in homers, walks and hits, plus among the top for sb. Now the sox at 8, I was really thinking outside the box here. I looked at the needs of the team. So I had several options. SP - Jake Lemoine, but since this morning and no surgery, forget about it. Next I am leaning on: Donnie Dewees – of – college. He is arguable the best hitter in college this yr, supplanting Happ and others. He is in the top 2 or 3 in most offensive categories, can play most any OF positions but he is a CF’er. David Thompson – 3b – college, got hurt, missed his soph yr, came out last cape and was in the tops in hits and hrs. this yr, continued hitting homers and is good at defense. hard to choice http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/strong-spri...top-few-rounds/ http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/321 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/483 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/200

  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) They created a steaming pile of animal waste and now they are stepping in it. Both of these steps have the end result of making a mess. real nice.... i gots to remember that.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 9, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) I love following the minor league update threads because of all the over reactions. This kid had a good week. Promote him! Where does he fit in the line up? This kid had a bad week. He's regressing! He's "toolsy." Keep it up guys. It's great entertainment. isn't that part of being in the white sox fandom?
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ May 11, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) In another thread people were claiming that no one in the front office should have their jobs. Now they are stepping in and that is a mistake. I wonder if at some point they ignore the fan's opinions? the point is we as fans have no say so, we made our rant, lets no dwell it, lets move on. btw i am of the old school. no one can insult my team if you are not a sox fan, we only have that right.
  15. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 11, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) Jeff Samardzija (2-2 4.38) vs Wily Peralta (1-4 3.92) East coast start time today, dont forget. lets keep the offense up fellas.
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 11, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) But stupidity is. Now little leakers will be doing it across the country. I'm with Flavum here. and the parents and coaches will be putting a stop to that. if this is their inside humor and a very appalling beginning, they need something to help them get over it. so my point is so what.

  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) But don't stop with that excerpt -- read this whole piece by Bruce Levine, if only to see if we can figure out through the wisdom of the crowd whose interest(s) this story actually serves. Superficially, it uses flattering verbiage for both the coaching staff ("tireless workers") and the front office (" Hahn and Williams simply used some of their upper-management skills"). Through this lens, perhaps it's just a way to transfer heat from Ventura to the players. But if a reader isn't inclined to be charitable, this could come off as damning. I don't think it does Ventura any favors -- it reads like he's in need of his own "hands-on" management training during his fourth year on the job. And if that's the case, then it could be a tacit admission that Williams and Hahn overestimated Ventura's abilities. I guess it depends on who is more responsible for the old "manifesto," because it's not a good look when an entire offseason's worth of preparation has been deemed ineffective and replaced in three days. I'm also not ruling out that it's a poorly executed story more than anything else, because it's been known to happen. At the very least, the emphasis on "working hard" rings hollow when "working smart" has been the problem. http://www.southsidesox.com/2015/5/10/8581...p-up-in-the-air yeah, i just wrote about it, now i deleted it. it was almost the whole highlights of posters comments off this site. the way mlb rumors does things, i was sure it would be them posting a link, not sb nation.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) While everyone rips the White Sox and KW specifically for the offseason acquisitions that haven't worked yet that have his fingerprints all over them, check out the numbers on a couple of players on the Soxtalk offseason wish list, Jay Bruce and CarGo.. my main wish was Edinson Vólquez sp - kc
  20. Gordo has always had a month of good offense, usually in the beginning, the first 2 1/2 months. then he hits the wall. lets see how he does this yr.
  21. 2 out of 4 teams won today, and i am really excited about the offensive output. those were nice hits thru out the whole minors league sox teams.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 10, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) Anderson's at AA though and we actually have to be careful with him. Alvarez is someone not many consider a prospect. I admit it's controversial but at the moment he's too good for A-ball and there's no way to move him up bar move a higher prospect, jump him two levels or move him off the position. this is my opinion, but i would rather have Alvarez 1 more week and if continues to do good, move him to 3b. if not move him up and another position as you said.
  23. no matter how it was done, this is nice!!!!!

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 10, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) Might be controversial but I wouldn't actually mind skipping Alvarez to AAA. He's completely torn up A-ball in consecutive years, there's no space for him at A+ or AA, and the shortstop at AAA has no major league potential (imo). He doesn't have anything more to do in A-ball and moving him off shortstop isn't good for his value. Worst case scenario he craters at AAA and you can send him back to A-ball and just move him up whenever Anderson/Rondon move up. Best case scenario he does nicely and you know you've got something. i would think that AA is way more important than AAA in a prospect's development.
