  1. Chirs Shaw, 1b-of, for Bos College, the school finally announced that he broke his hand. when he broke his hand, he was second in the nation in homers. will miss 3+ weeks. http://www.bcinterruption.com/boston-colle...ith-broken-bone

  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 04:04 AM) Considering our Sox won't have 2nd or 3rd round picks to burn, and their earliest pick after #8 will be #112, I don't like taking an injured prospect in hopes of getting extra money to sign prep players later on considering the lack of talent available to us. I'd rather take yet another safer college prospect (either RHP or best bat available). These top 10 talents that fit this include RHP Walker Buehler out of Vandy, RHP Kyle Funkhouser out of L-Ville, SS Dansy Swanson out of Vandy, RHP Carson Fulmer out of Vandy, and 2B Alex Bregman out of LSU (I would have been all over Michael Matuella a lanky RHP out of Duke if his health was fine (Tommy John, spine issues)). Odds are that most if not all of those pitchers mentioned are gone and Swanson is still available along with Bregman. If it came down to it I'd go Swanson Early ChiSox Mock: 1.8. Dansby Swanson, SS, Vandy (strong armed, top of the lineup type speedy contact hitter) 4.112. Rhett Wiseman, LF, Vandy (strong armed, defensive, contact hitting lefty) 5.142. Grayson Long, RHP, TAMU (Big, ground ball reliever) 6.172. Tyrone Perry, 1B, FL-HS (6'1" 260 lb. power hitting lefty 1B) 7.202. Elih Marrero, C, FL-HS (son of former MLBer, may move to OF, speedy contact hitter) 8.232. Alec Rash, RHP, Mizzou (Large power throwing righty) 9.262. Lucius Fox, SS, FL-HS (athletic, speedy, slender, defensive switch hitter) 10.292. Korey Dunbar, C, UNC (defensive catcher, with a very strong arm) great job.... a big question, do you think Wiseman and Long would drop that much. getting Swanson would make this draft extremely nice, if the sox can pick him. what are your thoughts on the 3 positional players from Arz, Newman, Scott Kingery, Dalbec ???
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 12:12 AM) Ian Happ is someone that I would like the Sox to pick. Would be a good fit to take over for Melky when his deal is done. as far as i am concern and of the opinion, Anderson is the sox SS of the future, until told otherwise. i like several pitchers, but they will be gone. the 2 SS at the college level are touted to hold SS if needed but is seen as moving to another position in the infield. so looking at the preseason list of players i like, i really wanted to remember why i like Happ. well either way, since last week, they, am i am guessing his team has been playing in different situations. partly b/c the college pitchers are really not pitching to him. as of today, some scouts came out and mention in passing, that Happ, to improve his profile has been taking to the 3b. the word is, he can definitely play that position as well as 2b. he can play both corner outfield but is a little rugged in cf. so Happ, the best college overall hitter who can play 3b, ranked below david thompson in the power for 3b. i can see the sox grabbing him. why not, if the best SP's are not there.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) I just came here to post this. I love that Kiley McDaniel works for Fangraphs now. Such great stuff. yeah i am surprised, esp in what was said about the sox info. you know me, anything on the sox, i am going to look to. that 1 thing that is striking me and what was written here is, the rumors of who was picking after the Bos and some team pegged to Fulmer. now i was reading Scout web site, they mention Fulmer and about his size, he injury to start the season, his inability to pitch back to back games with consistences. this is the major point i am mentioning, some pro scouts likes what he has, and they are in the mindset that he might go back to the pen in the next level, if he can perfect his secondary pitches.
  6. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) Samardzija vs Price It should be a good game if Samardzija has his good stuff going. Does anyone know why there has been so many day games to start the season? I almost always miss day games during the week for one reason or another. Go Sox! i don't know. maybe, it gets colder at night, playoff games for other sports.

  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:43 AM) The asking price for Cole Hamels is going down by the minute. too bad the sox can't entice them for some really out of the realm of non believable trades.

    John Danks

i have always been a fan of Danks, but come june, and he is pitching like crap, i would love the sox to make an overture to him and buy out his contract of put him on IR for the yr.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 03:02 AM) Watched Fulmer again tonight. He put up great numbers again, but his velocity was around 90-92 all night after being 94-95 last week. That raises some warning signs regarding his ability to pitch every 5 days. i totally agree. but, i play the devils advocate, he is only 1 yr removed as a closer. maybe he needs more rep as a starter. that is why on the college level i have a hard time getting overly excited on closer converted starters. i know i have to throw Montas in there as well. btw, how was Fulmer's secondary pitches?? any mention of them?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 02:33 AM) At Alvarez's advanced age, he's going to be hard-pressed to be much more offensively than another version of Leury or C.Rondon. Leury.... too bad. either way, he will have said that he made it. made the majors.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 02:58 AM) Just a quick question, when is the CBA up? For the next CBA, they are going to discuss an international draft and trading draft picks right? i think it is next yr, edit..... dec 2016 http://mlb.mlb.com/pa/info/faq.jsp#expire

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 02:16 AM) Alavrez has been an early disappointment this year but Austin has been playing well all around all Robbins has a viscous swing, wouldn't mind seeing Dansby Swanson later this year in Kanny, although I'd probably take another college arm ya man, with out your writeup, the sox minors hasn't been winning them. you are like the lucky rabbit's foot.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:23 AM) There is no such thing as "too much pitching." Pitching is always tradeable. If we have 7 MLB ready starters and we need to restock the lineup, either there's money available or that trade writes itself. If everyone else stays healthy and Rodon is in the rotation, then within a year or so we should be staring multiple top level trade candidates that we could use to fill in whatever gap we have. That is fine. nice post. with some of it, i agree. re BPA, i am going to step back from this one. i am really having a difficult time trying to express my thoughts. i just can't seem explain what i am trying to say. re: Rodon and other sp's. there is a big need to restock the system. trading sp's for those positional players, esp at catching and 3b, i don't see the sox getting full value of the trade, esp if player "A" is the player that best fits the sox needs.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) And as Robin told the story in the past, he got about half way out there and realized he made a really big mistake.... but by then it was too late. that is a great story, many thanks for remembering and posting it.
  18. you know, this is going to be a tricky draft. as of right now, as the sox system stands, pitching is outstanding, with more than enuf to field maybe 2 teams. so i am really looking at the positional players. there are 2 catchers that i like but mostly all positional players. BPA.... that is a phrase that i am having heartburn over. sometimes and with this draft, i just don't know. outside the 1 rnd. i do not know about any other pitchers, mostly HS kids.
  19. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) Later round guy that could come into play: Alex Winkelman LHP, Southeast Missouri State later round guys, Bolt-cf, Greiner-ss, Duggar-rf and Aillo-ss. these i can see at the 4 and 5 rd.
  20. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 11:29 PM) Yeah, you guys are terrific with the info. The highest picks in two years of Hahn are Anderson, Danish, Rodon and Adams. That's a good group , imo, so I'm going to have faith that this year will also be satisfactory, despite the lost picks andregardless of my first impression on Draft Day. draft day, the movie??? i love that movie. but as i have stated, might as well enjoy this last one..... the last one in the top 10 for a freaking long time. i have faith in my sox team.
  21. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) The Sox made it clear that they won't rush Rodon for the need of the big league roster. IMO Rodon can use more time to work on his command in the minors, and it's gonna take more than 3-4 starts. So I am guessing mid June at the earliest, which should increase his availability at the end of the season. very much true.... i am of the opinion, which it still hasn't change from my other post, Rodon can help both himself and the team working on his pitches. i always expected him in aug or late aug.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 09:58 PM) Are you ok with the 3 man bench or the 6 man bullpen? Because between Rodon not being ready to take an innings load and Danks and Noesi, it seems like you'd want the 7 man bullpen to have an extra reliever. to be honest and i do like this question. damn good question. i would like the 6 man bullpen. but it really depends on what happen as the season comes to the ASG. talking about things like that now, well many things can happen. but the bottom line, playoff time.... the team needs to field the best pitchers and rp.
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) I'm not a big draft follower in any sport, because I hate the idea of pining for a dozen players, knowing that you'll only get one,. But I do appreciate all the info and detail you're providing. thanks i appreciate that..... problem is i get bored really fast. you should see my hockey info. edit.... there are other poster who have prob more informed than I, like Johusa. (sp)
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) I think he has an article coming out in the next few days, but Kiley McDaniel has said a few times he's heard teams in the 6-10 range of this draft are planning on cost-saving deals with their first pick (ie: Cubs last year with Schwarber). you know, i was just thinking, i really like 3 other players that i started to follow. i know the sox don't have the comp picks, but very interesting players. David Thompson-3b. was very, very good as a freshman, miss his soph yr due to an injury. recovered, played in the cape cod and remade his name, and this yr getting stronger. is among the lead in the nation in hrs, i believe as of last weekend, great avg. Kevin Newman-ss, senior, i followed him since the cape, lead the cape at 1 point, between him and Ian Happ, they are maybe the best hitting players in the nation in college. Alonzo Jones-ss, hs. this guy i really like, if he can maintain his hitting in college or as he gets older, wow. maybe be the fastest players period, in the whole draft. these are comp players, i am not including Tucker, Bader and Shaw.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) They're about 21-23 spots too low on Tate most definitely, that was part of what i was referring to, the other the sox selection. most of all the other mocks, it being discussed the sox will pick the ss, either i think vandy or lsu. i posted the mock, even thou i thought it was wrong.
