  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 12:49 AM) Dude, Maddon didn't even know he was available. he must have found out sometime, the northsiders got him.
  2. MLB sets attendance record in first two weeks of 2015 season http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-185440752.html
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 12:43 AM) I'm calling it now. Robin and the Sox will "mutually part ways" after the 2015 season. They will do whatever it takes to make his departure classy. There is no chance he will get fired in the middle of the season. The Hawks were bold to do it to Savard, but they also had Quinville lined up waiting. I don't think the Sox are as bold and they most likely don't currently have a manager lined up to replace RV. imo, they should have done it last yr, when Maddon was avail.
  4. an FYI on the draft slot value. i don't know if this been posted or not. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2015-mlb-draft-slots/
  5. .@UVABaseball announced the injury to LHP Nathan Kirby is a strained lat muscle. That's good news considering the alternative per tweet. https://twitter.com/KendallRogersD1/status/...244979895263232 good, no arm injury, no shoulder injury, no surgery. the problem is this doesn't help out the sox in defining the the top 7 selections in the upcoming draft.
  6. you bring up a good point, re: short lease, hell, i expect 2 of the pitchers to be on short leases. but you can pencil in the 2 names. they really are the main persons who should be on this short lease.
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 11:29 PM) Lot's of people made reference to Prior and PEDs. You are not alone in reading that. i appreciate that. many thanks for all your input.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) It really doesn't make pitchers throw harder as strength isn't a direct correlation to throwing velocity. It made have made some difference. It allowed them to throw at the maximum velocity for a loner period of time so maybe it raised the average fastball velocity. ok, then i step in the crap. but the story of maddox was true. btw, i think i was ref to throwing hard all the time. i don't know, that was a long time ago and i am no medical. many thanks for your input.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) How a fringe pitching prospect like Dykstra does in a given week has zero bearing on what the Sox should do on draft day. alright be a killjoy.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) A LF who hits .290 with 25 HR and plus defense in the OF? That's an All Star level player. Heck that's a guy who could get MVP votes if he does even a little better than that. That's an insane projection. I mean I hope he does, but sheesh. yeah that is some lofty numbers, but this is a big IF he develops as expected, he can do it. but that is alot to put on a teenager going to be 18-19 yrs old. also look at how Hawkins took a hiccup and may not developed as org hope. but dang, look at the bloodline, his brother preston playing, for i think Hou. at the beginning of this college season, i was envisioning hawkins, mickler and tucker. of course this is 4-5 yrs down the road. however the sox need a little help in the near future and this draft can help.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) PEDs allow the arm to recover quicker and pitch with a higher intensity more often. The issue is ligaments and capsules such as the shoulder joint and UCL in the elbow aren't built to take that much stress. Thus they may start to break down with the increased workload allowed by the PEDs. well, i didn't know the all medical things, but i thought that with the PED, the players throw harder without realizing it. there was another thing i remember, my cuz was telling me of some huge veins or something poping out, something that happens when someone, in that time/era, was on the juice. edit..... i almost forgot.... even Maddox made a snide comment about Prior being on some special milk shake.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) FutureSox.com ‏@FutureSox 16m16 minutes ago Yet another award on the farm: @James_Dykstra of @WSDashBaseball wins CAR Pitcher of the Week thanks to his no-no on April 15th. again, another unheralded pitcher making a name for himself. big pict >> come draft day, may be another reason not to go with a 2nd or 3rd tier pitcher. just my opinion. on a side note, way to go Dykstra. keep up the good work.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) The Sox not having 2nd and 3rd round picks + Matuella and Aiken's stock dropping make me think they'd be more interested, especially if Coop and Herm approved. High upside talent that can likely be signed underslot. i think that is the key and how the sox FO will address the draft.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) Once again, the facts say you are wrong. Beckham started the year on the DL, and Semien played all but 6 games in the 2 months before he was sent down. He was recalled in September when Sanchez was playing 2B, and Beckham was in California. Here's the thread when he was optioned on June 1, no one was saying he didn't have a fair shot, even Caulfield. He just figured he could blame Robin and Beckham now and gets some mileage out of it. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=92227 re the bolded, i really don't know what the discussion was and i really hate jumping in middle. i felt that some facts were not correct and this is why i am posting. re Robin, i don't think he was at fault with Beckham, but i think the whole org saw potential and that potential never materialized.

Beckham had 390 ab's and in he second link showed his gamelog, which i hate to say tell a different story than what you are saying. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/beckhgo01.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...b&year=2014 now Semien only had 231 ab's and here is his game log. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...b&year=2014
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 07:27 PM) ptatc, what's your read on the cause of Mark Prior's injury issues and some others who have been lumped in with him as Tom House guys? I've heard a lot of talk about the "inverted W" and more generally the arm coming through late. Is that what you're thinking about in terms of the chief injury risk of that approach? I say this because for a long time I saw a Tom House instructor (and a couple of times the man himself) and I was encouraged to go with what felt natural in terms of arm slot and position throughout the delivery, which in my case meant taking it out low and throwing 3/4. Of course, the arm slot kept dropping as my labrum tear got more severe... while you brought that up, re Prior, what effect would taking PED also have on the arm??
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) One part I think they missed is a qualitative portion to ask why the average fastball velocity decreased. Were they told to not throw as hard as often. I think thats one reason the sox are so low in TJ surgery. Cooper really stresses decreasing velocity to improve movement and command. wow that is a great point
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 06:01 PM) No he's not, not right now. Could he be within a couple months? That'd be the hope. and thanks, that is the point i am trying to make. he will not be the one player to help turn this team around. these players are getting paid a huge amount and the fault lie in the person who they see every single day in the mirror.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 07:08 PM) But you did state Semien did not get 2 or 3 months of consistent playing time , now spinning other names and BS to get away from your lie. Then you used the Ventura and Beckham buzzwords so people would hop on your bandwagon. Nice try. Your claim was totally and completely innaccurate. Wouldn't you at least have to admit it would be hard for Robin to give him consistent playing time when Marcus is in Charlotte? He played him pretty regularly when he was on the roster. But you just can't admit it. while i respect yours and caulifield opnions, i have to say 1 major point. Semien really didn't get a fair look, even when given spot time. the main player at that position was Beckham and for some ungodly reasoning that he will still have a chance to put it together. this he did in a matter of 1 month and then failed. i am confident in saying the sox FO still did not want to give up on Beckham until they needed to trade him and open the door to his position. now what i wrote, i do not know if i helped anyone, probably just dug a deeper hole for myself. i can live with that.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) With his health history I'd actually rather try him in the bullpen long term. my problem with him as of now, is he really capable of doing more than what the sox have now? the pitching is in a precarious situation, or slippery or uncertain. what ever word one wishes to choose. but i wish the sox would address the starting 5. even with Rodon, i am still leery.
  21. maybe it is me, but i truly would like that Shoeless Joe gets some nods, i really don't know if he was really guilty. maybe he was guilty of having no education that prevented him for reading what he needed to. carlton fisk and wilbur wood. i like to get some nods.
  22. this is me, i really am having a hard time using a high first rounder on a pitcher who may be a rp or is a rp. the org need impact players, whether they be sp or positional players. this org has a hole in 3b, also maybe in ss, and i am meaning hitting and defence. anderson is the sox ss of the future, but that does not mean they can stop addressing that positions. yeah, the sox sign several int'l players who can play ss, but what are they 5-6 yrs away.
  23. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) I love Kiley and his pieces, so I think this is some must read material for Soxtalk: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2015-mlb-dr...-april-edition/ yeah, that is a great read. from now until draft day, i personally don't think that that anything being publish will be a bad read. Caveat that with this, unless they are just regurgitating old material. i do have to say 1 thing, this draft, with all the latest injuries, surprise illness, and the preps making a name for themselves, after a number in the top 5 picks, it is anyone's guess. i love it. the unexpected to happen.
  24. QUOTE (staxx @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) Rodon isn't going back down unless he is an absolute failure. That is out of the question. i agree and i think the coaches will do what is needed to help him and not to throw him to the sharks.
  25. i am of the opinion that the sox FO rushed MJ up, no matter how well he was doing in ST, he still should have gone down. however that didn't happen. so what or how is he doing up to date?? everything is going to get thrown out of whack b/c of the loosing. this part needs to be fixed, is replacing 1 player will do it?? i don't think so. will a new manager fix it?? i don't think so. these players needs to get rep's, they need to play thru their slump, while that is being done, MJ is really not being overmatch, i think a good 20 games can maybe give a better idea of him.
