QUOTE (Real @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) this team is just embarrassing at this point i understand you point, but i don't think so. finally this team is starting to develop a personality and is showing some fight in them. finally i can say these players coming to life.

does that mean we can't call a player from an opposing team .... mental midget who like to sleep with his sister.

i was reading a blog on a hs-senior playing for the gulf coast hs team. his profile, fb - 84-88, very good command of his secondary pitches curve, slider and change. what is making him special is this. in the early part of april, he threw a no - hitter . his next game he then threw a perfect game. his name Michael Zimmerman. http://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerp....aspx?ID=291561

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) I think at the very least it is a shot across Mitchell's bow. I don't think it is just performance with him, I think there is an attitude issue, based on some reports I've heard. I like Coats, I actually had him on my Top 30 in January (back end). danman31 is a fan too as I recall. He's got an unusual combo of power and contact, some speed, strong arm, plays above average corner OF defense and can play CF in a pinch. Doesn't walk a lot, but seems to work counts in the few times I've seen him live or on tape. He just turned 25 in Feb so he's maybe a year (at most) older than you'd like at AAA, but you have to remember he missed his draft year recovering from a knee injury. So developmentally he's on track timing-wise. if i remember correctly, that was discussed last yr by me and several others posters. it appears that never fixed itself.

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) I'm not sure where I heard it, but I thought the reason was to keep the main home plate entrance at the corner of 35th and Shields. i am not disputing what you said, i just wonder why that would be important.

interesting story on the draft and the medical rpts. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ i was totally unaware of this.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Just once, I'd like to see them sign an Endy Chavez, Fr.Gutierrez or Juan Lagares quality defender in the OF...to be used as a defensive replacement. If Shuck was a good enough defensive upgrade, that would be one thing...but I have a feeling RV isn't going to pull either Cabrera or Avi for JB Shuck because of the offensive sacrifice isn't being offset enough like with DeAza/Viciedo. Maybe...someday...Thompson, but they still want to see if he can develop his bat. interesting.... a very interesting opinion.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) Focus was better than I expected...although it's still well short of the Ocean's movies. re focus, i just can't get into the premise and the actors. i just don't know.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) Jimmy Piersall....my second White Sox autograph, following Claudell Washington...although I never saw him as a player, just knew the whole "Fear Strikes Out" story. yeah, i remember listening to him and all the old time stories. but what i also loved what the educational part he would chime in about. like that little tidbit about the cold wx. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:23 PM) 4 years? That would make them major league ready at 20. Realistically, you are talking about 6 years for the early arrivers. oops, my bad.... thanks for the correction. i was thinking the age being 17-18

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) I had thought it was construction related because of it going up at the same time as the old park, but maybe I'm remembering wrong. In any case it didn't sound like a total prevention but more of a keeping costs down move. this is a great walk down memory lane.... too bad we can't have someone ask the org for an answer. like an unknown trivia question.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) I would have loved for them to have put a retractable roof on the Cell. I would sure be more inclined to go to an April game or buy April tickets ahead of time if I know we have a roof that can close. that would be SWEET!!!

Jose Abreu Speaks His Mind on Sox' Poor Play -- a 1st?

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) I think his fastball command has been poor and at 90-92 mph he needs to be very sharp with it. I think part of the "disbelief" about Q is that he works with very small margins thanks to his velocity and it all seems a little too good to be true that a guy with a solid but unspectacular 3 pitch arsenal really is a top 15 MLB starter. Thing is, without pinpoint command he's probably not. We'll see how it goes but I'm not that worried about him. If he regresses to a solid 3rd starter whatever pick it up elsewhere his contract is still an asset. well i for one would like to see how he does when it gets warmer. that is all this team needs, a pitcher who is not up to par. this system, the same group of players that the sox went and then stop acquiring, will be short of extra viable pitchers. that mean, that Beck and Johnson, let alone Danks will not have a margin of error to play with, if Q is hurt. -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 08:43 PM) Seems like this premise has gained traction here but it's just not true, at least if you believe in PITCHf/x at all. His velocity is down 1 MPH here and there, which is consistent with April trends that we've been aware of for years. excellent point, there are 2 factors, 1 or which was mention with the old Harry Carey and his sidekick, the one that got fired. he said, the cold wx affects the pitchers differently and esp coming from spring training. i remember he even mention at one time that they should extend spring training an extra week, with that week being in there home town. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) If he said that, it is a lie. as you said, if and a lie .... thanks for the courtesy of the situation being right. i have wondered why the sun... i still ponder that answer. i thought that maybe he wanted to give his players, the home team the advantage, esp in day games, of having the sun in the outfielder's eyes. that still puzzles me.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) When you play in the big leagues regardless if it's your first game or your 100th you need to perform. Rodon didn't. It was a learning experience and hopefully he did just that and does better next time. I think that is the bottom line and no excuses are needed. Rodon will establish himself soon as a plus pitcher. i totally agree, some could make a point of his salary, not being prepared, or even rushing him. but the bottom line is, players, and yeah even superstar players get all hype up. it all nerves and adrenaline, stuff like this happen.

i am going to make a little itsy bitsy rant here. i wish to all the baseball gods, i wish the sox would break the bank on the int's signing after July 2 or this yr. fill up the rosters of prospects who can be develop in 4+ yrs, including the cubans. the minor systems needs bodies who can develop. no one is going to hold the Dave Wilder situation against the sox for overspending. the sox needs positional players, outfields catchers and of course more pitchers. just overload the systems then in 2+ yrs start being smart and they should assets to trade.

QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 05:00 PM) at comiskey there was as beautiful view of the skyline. About the only time I looked at it was during batting practice ... seems like the only time ZI noticed it was when one of our great hitters was hitting roof shots during batting practice. Watching bating practice was worth the price of admission. MLB player's union cut the home team's bating practice out. dang, it is a bite getting old. but if my memory is right, they asked the question of the skyline to, i honestly think it was Eddie Eihorn (sp), who was the spoke person for the owners group and he said it was b/c the sun. the going down and the sun in the eyes of the players during day games.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) I take people's opinions on films with a grain of salt since its very much a matter of taste. As long as I like something, I am ok with it regardless of its reviews. Otherwise I would feel sorry for myself that I thought Birdman and Gosford Park sucked donkey balls. and a very good point. i really like gosford park alot. now birdman, i really appreciated the late 1950's early 60's flavor of directing and editing with a dark feelings. a great movie, but not a movie that i would like to see over and over. another movie like that is glengarry glen ross. great actors, acting and the cast is who's who of the movies.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) The funny thing is while everyone attacks Robin after this, if you read or watch the interview, he defends Robin in the very next set of comments, and said he isn't the problem. yeah, i think they, the players and other coaches hear and see the venom being spewed toward RV and know, most of this is not his fault.
