White Sox aim to follow up on success of 2014 draft
LDF replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 10:35 PM) Are there any catching prospects that might be a possibility worthy of our first round pick? It would be nice to have one of those. nah, imo not this yr. may comp or comp A but nothing at #8. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) Would it be OK on this site if he prefaced it with a Gordon Beckham or John Danks sucks? hey, i am not trying to take sides here, but look back, he took a cheap shot at me, so the monkey is on him. i choose to ignore him.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) Tate reminds me of Flash Gordon because of his stuff and size. I love Flash, but I am not picking him at #8. I would much rather grab Hooper who had TOR ceiling, and mid-range that lands somewhere around Matt Thornton. I still really like the idea of DJ Stewart as a guy similar to Schwarber last year in that is the best college hitter and you can likely get him underslot. Add to that he should be ready right about the time that Melky's contract is up I would lean that direction at this point - IF - I was able to save enough in the deal to come back and sign a couple high school kids with high ceilings in rounds 4 and 5. yeah, DJ Stewart in nice, but i think he will have a low avg, high K's and lots of hrs. unless he shows or if the coaches think he can become a better hitter, i don't know. same goes for 3b David Thompson, he may go 2nd rnd or 3rd. but as of right now, he does hit for avg and he does have tremendous power. I really like Kyle Tucker, suppose to be the best all around hitter in the HS class, and he is a bean poll. 6'4 and at best 175 lbs. plays a good D in the outfield. can anyone imagine what he can do when he gains muscle weitght and fully develop? hs pitchers is plentiful this yr.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 06:50 PM) I don't get your Tom Gordon comp at all. Flash was the pitching equivalent of a midget whereas Tate has decent but not great size. My favorite comparison for Tate would be Chris Archer. I'd put a lot of money on the Sox taking a pitcher. Their developmental team basically spelled it out. going into the yr, i really considered him, but there were a couple of other pitching prospects i was game on. they were Jake Lemoine - hou, and Sbotz - rp. both pitchers had some mechanical problems, and were going to work on it. re: Sbotz, the coaches were thinking to trying him out in the rotation, i guess his control was a problem and is not good enuf. but Tate, i just don't know. now, i also like Cody Ponce and Kyle Cody, problem with K Cody, is his team around him, me thinketh. there is a slew of young HS'ers that are intriguing, i wish this yr the sox had a pick in the comp and comp A.

can Sanchez play SS??
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) I like Eaton a lot. He does a lot of things right on the baseball field. Now he just needs to stay on the baseball field and keep developing!!! i too like him, i think there is really not too many who dislikes him. for me, he brings that old school kind of a player.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) Thats cool, that means someone else will drop. I am not that sold on Tate anyway, unless the Sox can go underslot to sign him to try and grab someone like Chandler Day who could slip due to signability. Tate has some interesting stuff. but come draft day, depending on which pitchers are hurt and what kind of injury, it may be real interesting on #8. if none of the main pitchers drop, will the sox go for the SS. some rumbings on the blogs, has maybe Aiken dropping and / or Swanson or the LSU ss going to the sox. i know what many are saying BPA, but i just don't know why the rumblings so early about SS. i know the sox FO like to preplan for 2 yr from now. i just don't see anything. btw, don't shoot the msg'er.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) That #2 pick is pretty dumb. No way that the Astros select Aiken again because if they do not sign him they will lose that pick with no compensation. btw, wasn't there a discussion with the commissioner that he was not going to allow that to happen, and address that in the next cba???

new mock draft, according to this one, the pitchers have not change. interesting in sox pick at #8. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft

Plentiful pitching will be avail on mid-season trade market
LDF replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 04:24 AM) It would be a ridiculous price. And he's poor against the AL. My goodness, is Sale, Shark, Q, Rodon and whomever not sufficient? Jackson has no better chance of being a decent 5 than Penny, Danks or Noesi. first Rodon is not a sure thing to start this season anywhere but in the minors, and except for Noesi last pitching performance, i am not too confident in the backend of the sp's rotation. so yes, the sox need a sp, one that can a trusted in. obvious the sox FO thinks the same, then why offer Penny a contract? -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 12:24 AM) Hawkins had 1 PA and got a hit. (1-1, 2B, RBI) Didn't homer though... sox should send him down cause of that. you have a harsh set of standards.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) Again, who defines the due process? What if the due process is the President has final decision? Or a committee of three reviews the available information and makes a decision? I imagine there is an appeal process in place that would be available to the student. Is that process enough? Placing the burden on the students to appeal? Seems like an efficient way to manage these situations. I do not believe they have a legal right to attend that university. If they did then the university would not be able to set any standards for admission. that due process is establish and govern by the constitutions of the land, back by the supreme courts and enforced and protected by the police. those appeals process has nothing to do with civil liberties. there is a reason why the governing body in the country back in the time of the establishment of the laws, thought, people does not have the ability to govern themselves and that is why a separate but an equal branch of the country is needed. to fairly judge the situation, without bias and prejudice.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) You are correct. Who defines "due process"? Remember we are beginning with a process that excludes certain individuals from this public university. The university is not a public square that anyone can enter. If these guys had been employees of a company and fired over the behavior what would the "due process" be? They are not being prosecuted and thrown in jail, the due process for a legal procedure. There have been no efforts by the university to prosecute them in a court of law. I'm not certain what due process you are creating here. And I'm not certain how you are deciding this is private speech or why you are drawing a distinction. the due process is a lame men term in this situation to say, the admin people quickly and harshly reacted in a negative way, close the frat house down. now, if it was b/c of a criminal doings, which there are degrees of the act, those student in that frat house has to appear in a board of inquiry. this board also has different levels of action, especially in a disciplinary sense. that is the due process, due diligence which they were denied from google.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) Due process isn't only a legal procedure. E.g. If you're a tenured teacher, you have due process protections and can be fired only if cause is shown, not just arbitrarily; public employees actually enjoy free speech protections that private employees do not. That the speech was made in private is central to any claims about it being harassment, creating hostile environment for others on campus, etc. What other speech do you think a public university administrator should be able to unilaterally kick students it for? What about speech by professors? What effect do you think that will have on academic freedom, and how do you get around the first amendment problems with this being a public institution? due process is about having the ability or process to have your day in court. to make a defense for those actions. as you said, showing cause in your statement has nothing to due with the process. it is more of the side effect of what happens, or the outcome. these people, regardless of what happen, have a right to have their day in court. the school admin, while noble for quick actions, did not afford them a chance for a defense. the other part of your post, i am lost. so don't mind me. i always enjoy your post. kind of edgy. peace

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/ba...ut-the-red-sox/ Including Cole Hamels... nice find. the problem is, imo, there is always going to be pieces for a trade, the problem for me will be the price to pay for such a trade. this system, the system that we have now enjoying the fruits, is still fragile. the system does not have the extra pieces to use in a trade. sad but it is true, so b/c of lack of insight, the sox will have to scour the waiver list. -
Hoiberg 60% chance hes going to replace Thibs
LDF replied to caulfield12's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 07:06 AM) College coaches have to be in it for more than the slight chance they'll win it all. They make great money as Hoiberg does and they, if successful, are icons in their towns and on their campuses. I know you NBA fans think the NBA is the top and all that, but for the most part, NBA coaches are buffoons and caretakers of the big egos. I have a friend who is a very important NBA official and he told me all the NBA wants nowadays are guys who can make the players laugh. They don't give a f*** about Xs and Os. If Hoiberg and some other college coaches like Self want to coach in that league, more power to them, but coaching in that league is all about the payday, not the experience (unless u get LeBron, Durant on your roster). Fred Hoiberg has a heart history and is beloved in Ames. He has a family. He should stay put, but will he? p.s. What is the Bulls' problem in not appreciating Thibs? He seems dandy to me. for me, he cares about the x's and o's and make the players work. but the main problem comes from the front office. -
Brad Penny touching 94, leading candidate for 5th starter
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 06:59 AM) My prediction is they dont hand him 100,000 bucks to go to the minors. He either makes the team or they release him. Giving him the ball is no worse than giving it to Carroll as the fifth starter for one start or two to see if he can pitch. They won't donate 100,000 to him IMO. It's big league team or release. and how much will he make if he makes the team?? -

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) Agreed. He seems like he hustles on every play, which is nice to see. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) Love that hustle double earlier in the game. with hustle, that will catch on within the team, all it takes is coaches to who wants it, players who can run and a team attitude of wanting excitement. plus a gentle stir (nudge). there you got a team who will hustle.
