QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) Stewart hit .364 and .351 that last two seasons and while his average has dipped this season to .304 thus far his ISO has increased from .196 - .206 - .380 and his K rate has decreased each year from 1.05 to .75 to .74. He does lead all of college baseball in HR's this season, but he is not an all or nothing hitter. you got an excellent point. i can find no faults. i have always used this scale, i was told this by an old scout in the 80's while in Bos. hitters, subtract 20-30 points from the college hitting avg in their first yr, if they can rebound to both the speed of mlb pitching, and the quality of the pitches, they may add 5-15 points back. it is up to them to continue to learn the art of hitting. now that was the old way of thinking that maybe this person was giving a bunch of BS. but it usually was always close. but then again what the hell do i know. i work for a living. the other part of what i wrote, i said it maybe or should be or can be, meaning the future. now he is tearing it up. but i thoughts are, why is he not climbing in the draft???

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Buyouts were ended in their old form under this new CBA. Of course Rose's deal was cut under the new deal, so the cap implications are much nastier than the used to be. thanks.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) I agree. Isn't that what I have been saying? maybe in a quasi way, or maybe i am not understanding it. if it is on me, i am sorry.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) What I believe you are missing is the university selects who is allowed to enroll in that university. The qualifications are set by the university not the constitution. Likewise, the university is allowed to establish a series of local rules to allow you to continue to attend the university, or not. Again, that is not set in the constitution. that is kool, but let me counter, you are missing the point, when the government tried to enforce school enroll in the 60's and the president sent the military to protect those students, that was the turning point. now, it might revert back to it, in actuality, a reverse of it. they, the school admin, can not be neglect of the law. now the schools can enforce their disciplinary rules, but that has to be done in the scoop of the law and the constitution of the land.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 12:33 AM) Their big problem is obvious. They have the full time ultimate major max deal tied up in a player who hasn't been a max player for 3 years. They won't be able to change that for the next 2 unless he can return to what we saw in those couple February games and come close to being that $20 million player. $20 million in cap space locked up in that one player is the killer. Oh, and it is actually possible the Bulls could resume being bad quite soon. Just change coaches. i don't know the rules, can the bull buy out Rose contract, is that the right terminology??

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 02:56 AM) I agree with the previous poster. Fastball and straight change only until high school. The straight change should be just the fastball with a different grip. It teaches them arm speed and arm slot. if anyone going to know, it is prob you. just wanting to add one last statement. now i understand the info i knew was prob been old way of thinking, with new technology add more education. when in college, a minor league coach from Vancouver, when the sox had a minor team there, he taught us that fastball is the best way for young players to develop. in hs, the young player should learn different speed and movement, natural movement of the fastball with placing it in different area of where you want the pitch. but that was really old time and i was wrong. thanks.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 11:31 PM) Agree. Have him sit one game, play positions 4-9 the other 6 days. Get him into the game every 6 out of 7 games at different positions. i thought that might be something the sox were willing to do with Bonifacio

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 11:13 PM) Hawk and Stone are right on about kid's arms that's for sure. Teach your kid a good fastball and a good changeup THEN when he's old enough (probably 14) then teach him a breaking ball. Not only is that they way to get to MLB (good change good fastball good control) but it's incredibly important to protect the young elbow. My pops was exactly like Stone on this and they are right. with all due respect, but let the young kid, throw what he is throwing, teach him nothing. let his body / arm grow. little league, or later, fast balls only. hs soph - junior, learn the different types of pitches and see what comes natural, no strain on the arm and elbow. after hs, let the pro's teach them the rest, college coaches or minors. there is sooo much pressure on winning, let the kid grow up naturally, let the real pro's teach him. ~~~ edit, Ptatc opinion on this would be great. he would know alot more.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) If there's one player that I'm not worried about other than injury (crazy for a second year player) it's Jose Abreu. i feel the same way about Jose and Alexei

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) Didn't Obama or his press secretary actually praise OU for kicking those guys out of school? I thought I saw that somewhere. I wonder if there's any update on this story. being a minority, sure i can praise them, but the fact of the matter, they will now have their day in court, to spew out their stupidity, and they may win.

at work, i just watched for the umpteen time, draft day. a very good movie, at least for me. every time i see that movie, i keep thinking, ben affleck is 1 lucky dude. whew.....

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) Did the Bulls dodge a bullet with both Carmelo and Kevin Love? Love isn't exactly lighting it up this season. He would have cost a mint in talent and $. i never wanted them on the team. that would have cut the flexibility to do any moves. i wonder, who wanted them gar/pax or thibs??

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) Guys like Wilkins, Black and any number of relievers are lower on the ladder than Garcia. The sox are set at 1B and DH for a while. yeah, time to start thinning out the ranks, outright them, too bad it wasn't earlier so they at least had a chance with another team.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) Has anyone seen Focus? Top American movie here in China is Taken 3. Yucks. Cinderella and Big Hero 6 off the charts successes. Jupiter Ascending topping U.S. Box office Numbers. Thankfully Kingsman Secret Service is out this Fri. the Kingsman is funny and nice, a great movie to kill 2 hrs with enjoyment. Focus, man ever since the promoting of his son, and the lousy selection of movie vehicles to try, i do not remember a hit since. focus, be there, seen it, different title and different actors. sucks............. Jupiter Ascending, take it with a grain of salt, some like it some hate it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) Yay....the mods can celebrate, haha. Actually, they now have three arguably overpaid middle infielders from Cuba....and just signed a backend starter/long man for $8 million as well. Now we can officially change this to the Vladimir Gutierrez/Yadier Alvares thread!!! Sponsored by LDF. http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...nt-sign-july-2/ oh righty, i don't know what it mean but i am game.

F. Gutierrez/J.Montero available for bench roles?
LDF replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 03:33 PM) I would be interested in Montero if they were to let him go for something reasonable. He could provide insurance against and Abreu injury, platoon some with LaRoche at DH, and serve as emergency C. He seems to be the kind of guy that would really do well with a change in scenery. if he is not chasing his teammates around threatening them with a bat. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) If all 3 of them are playing well and Hawkins were to have a good year at AA, you send him to AAA and he's the obvious callup in case of injury. That's not a bad thing at all and that would likely give him a chance at some point the next eyar. yup, you are correct,

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) Thanks for posting. At the moment, I would be happy with Buehler but I don't think I would take him ahead of Happ. of the known commodity, the pitchers, esp college, i am a little lost, there is still a long season and many surprises. Aiken and Matuella are the 2 question marks. Bickford, his discipline or attitude problem which may have lead to him falling. the relief pitchers who moved to the rotation, have they improved enuf. as of today, 3-24. all things being equal, i will pick the best pitcher at #8 who will move quicky and profile to be a mid rotation or better. according to those standards, imo Buehler a solid #2 or weak 1. Kirby, weak #2 strong 3. Bickford, i just don't know, what i have read, he is a nasty version of Roger Clemens or Hamel, mean nasty and just give him the ball and step aside. just hope his stuff is as good as his demeanor. there is some hs'ers that are worth noting. but not right now for me.

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) It'll be interesting to see what we do with the outfield after this season, especially if Hawkins looks primed for a ML role at some point in 2016. well, as some has said, it is a nice position to be in, this season, after the playoff, i would like to reevaluate the outfield. the sox are tied into a friendly contract with Melky, and the other 2 the sox have control. continue to let Hawkins develop. the sox really doesn't have to make a move in the roster, concerning OF, 1b or dh till after next yr. so, let see how things develop and see how Avi does in the outfield.
