  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/mariner...ms-latest-cuts/ while reading one name pop up, so i google it, it is montero and the story of him chasing a scout with a baseball bat.. now i know why he lost the weight. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/...him-with-a-bat/

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) I don't see anyway to you can't call this a make or break year for Davidson. thanks in a way, i was trying to be nice about it. but in realty that what it is, i just wanted to see if he can do anything meaningful before i throw him off the cliff.

  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Verlander blames coddling for spate of injuries and TJ surgeries. so does he explain how that cause it???
  9. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) Don't judge the merits of the pitching staff on a few March games in AZ. If they continue to get knocked around 30 days from now, then your fears are justified. then that is pretty obvious, after the fact, and how do you improve the pitching rotation. there is a reason you don't see teams making trades in the beginning of the season.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) Duh. I think we all do. a real classy response.
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 05:36 AM) Yeah, giving up 10 runs to their B squad sucks, but the wind appeared to be blowing out hard. A LOT of balls traveled farther than I thought they would. That Arizona air and what not. if that is the reason for the lost, then how come it did not happen for the sox?
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 06:40 AM) Completely agree, that's how you build dynasties (And great farm systems). they how can you address the parent team when you are trying to build the dynasty, unless you use those players in a trade for a needed position.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 07:01 AM) if you draft by need your system isn't getting better, and your window isn't opening any wider. But if your system is lacking talent (The Sox are still behind the curve when it comes to position players), you HAVE to draft the best player available. If you draft by need, your team actually being worst and your window closes even faster. How different would the conversation around the Cubs be if they drafted Jon Gray over Kris Bryant? How different would the Sox be if they drafted Mike Trout over Jared Mitchell? bpa, ok, i can see that, but when 2 players being equal, and 2 different position, it has to be graded on a different scale. now with the sox at this time, the team is really closed with a couple of expiring contracts, esp at the SS position. Alexia contract is expiring when, a yr. we all are assuming Anderson is the next one. but it is still not guarantee. a couple of SS who are really good in college. the main pitchers are off the board, do the sox forgo the better player who may be a outfielder and draft a SS who is really good, a close 2nd to the outfielder. or do the sox go the fa rt b/c they took the bpa.

  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) There is but if you are removing Thibs, it can't be because of his regular season record. And if it is about playing time, this year he has been stuck with minutes limits for a lot of players, so they can't get him for killing the players. The only thing they can use as a reason is lack of playoff success. Moving on from him and hiring a guy whose 3 seed team lost to a 14 seed in the round of 64, and using that excuse, would be sort of insane. Of course I am assuming Hoiberg would be the coach, and there are those that probably know more than me that think he wouldn't leave Ames. But if a lack of postseason success is the reason they use to move on from Thibs, since GarPax has pretty much been denying any rift even though the entire world knows, they are going to have to hire someone with a track record of postseason success to at least look a little truthful at the press conference. For once, I hope Cowley is right. Losing Thibs over pettiness and/or ego would be a huge mistake. oh man, do not preach to the choir here. i am a huge Thibs fan and the biggest mistake the bull can do, is fire Thibs, plain and simple. Fred success in college does not translate to success in the nba. i thought the bull have learned that from the last college coach, Pinky. that post you were responding to, i should have used green. sorry. i was reading, nba rumors, how it is now being said in the bull side, that JR and Pax are fans of Thibs. how did this tide change????
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Sounds like scouts believe there's no way Tate will still be around for the Sox pick. i just woke up, i was rethinking this, in a matter of a week, in college ball there was a lot of movement in some respect. Michael Matuella - sp was the only concern. now, in his 2nd outing, only barely 4 innings pitched. sp - Aikens - the home plate umpire told the press of Aikens and coaches concerns, yank out in the 1 inning. (bet there will be a disciplinary hearing on the ump). Tate was sitting on some mock draft board in the 20's. now, there is some talk of movement of Tate going higher than 10 and maybe in the top 5 range, big time fastball. if he wins tonite, (3-20), and big, who knows what the next mock draft will look like. alot of good games tonite.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 11:23 PM) I mean, he just made 20 million bucks If we're being honest, it's a great deal for anyone if i was being honest, its a great deal for the team. it like gambling, betting on the come.
  21. i just woke up and saw the score, what in hades happen??? was the pitching that bad?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 11:22 PM) Sounds like scouts believe there's no way Tate will still be around for the Sox pick. yeah i never thought of it that way, i was starting to hope for him to be at #8, but now, he might not be there. pitching today for the #16 rated ucsb. today game started and winning. he is profile to be the hardest thrower in the this yr draft, a good mix on his pitches. if aiken like hoffman last yr, fall to #8 do the sox draft him or go for a hitter. i have to keep reminding myself, the season barely started for college ball, a lot could happen.
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 08:58 PM) This is funny, from mlb.com: "We are going to get a guy that, one, we are going to be happy with and, two, that's going to have what we feel is not only a high ceiling but also a low basement," said assistant scouting director Nick Hostetler during a recent interview at Camelback Ranch. "The fact is that we are hoping he gets there and gets there rather quickly, and [we are hoping he] performs and can help this core that [general manager] Rick [Hahn] and [the front office] have assembled." Pretty sure that low basement is a bad thing, Nick. that was confusing until you explained it, and yeah you are right. this is simple, with how the team is, and how the prospects are helping, keep the statement simple and let the fans build up the excitement, b/c we will.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) I know, it's just the concern that you are paying him for only 125 games a season. It would be nice to see a full season out of him before you commit, but sometimes you have to take the chance. i was thinking that, but at the same time, he must really like the sox. he will be 33 yr old before he becomes a FA?? i truly hope the best for him and of course the sox.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) MJ deserves first chance hope he plays well. well i am sold on MJ going north, if that is what the coaches want, and when he is there, i want him to rock!!!
